World-renowned Italian operatic soprano; many consider her the greatest
Italian soprano of the twentieth century, and the only real rival to
Maria Callas.
After her death, her close friend Tina said: "You saw her die so many
times on the stage... This time, she's really gone".
Arturo Toscanini named her "Angel voice".
She was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Recording at 6628 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California.
She sang in the May 11, 1946 concert which re-opened La Scala Opera
House, which had been bombed during WWII and then rebuilt. Arturo
Toscanini was the conductor.
