When it comes to Project Runway, one day you’re in, the next day you’re out — and that mantra applies as unflinchingly to human contestants as it does to innocent birds.
Indeed, on this week’s episode, Tim Gunn brought L’Oreal honcho Collier Strong to the workroom along with a “soft, romantic” Cockatoo named Fortune, a “seductive, stoic” raven named Phoenix, a “bold, playful” Amazon parrot named Sweetie, and an owl that didn’t get its name drawn from a bag and was dismissed without so much as a double air-kiss from Heidi Klum or a zinger from Michael Kors about her drab,...

Makeup artist Collier Strong, whom you might recognize from the show, helped to create the line, though it’s not exactly inspired by the designers.
The collection is called Colors Take Flight because it is inspired by tropical birds. Vibrant, parrot-like shades of every color will be present in the nail polishes, eyeshadows, blushes and lipsticks.
Though there isn’t a completely obvious connection between the show and the makeup itself, the shades look gorgeous! The products will be available in October and judging by the long-term success of the show, it’s sure to be a hit!
Project Runway fans, are you excited for this line to come out?

Starting up the video for this show gives me heart palpitations nowadays. What new shenanigans will they come up with this week? Will the judges finally crack out and chop the designers into tiny pieces for being offensive to their sensibilities? Will someone finally stab Ivy with a pincushion? (I'll volunteer for that.) For a season that's featured mostly lackluster designers and some truly hideous dresses, it's somehow been one of the most entertaining in a while. I think it's a combination of the forceful personalities and the judges going all-out insane, which is a shame in terms of the actual quality of the show, but something that the drama queen in me relishes. I wish the actual dresses were better. Then it'd be the perfect season.
One quick thing before I start with the recap:
I don't know how many people caught this, but there was a big to-do...

['Project Runway' - 'Race to the Finish']
Why did Heidi even show up at the beginning of 'Project Runway'? The contestants haven't done a model swap in weeks and she hasn't announced a challenge in weeks, leaving all the bitch-work for Tim. It's not like she was pregnant with her fourteenth child.
Anyway, with the help of always-available Collier Strong, Tim announced a challenge where the contestants had to make a high fashion dress that would be feature in a two-page advertorial.
Similar to a high-stakes challenge on 'Top Chef', the designers had the chance to win $20,000. It was a way to light a fire under them because the designs have been getting sleepier and sleepier as the episodes pass by. As last week's winner Mondo got to choose first, and then Tim pulled out the rest of the names.

Tonight’s Project Runway finale begins with one day left until the show at Bryant Park…
Our final three designers, Mila, Emilio, and Seth Aaron find themselves in the workroom, readying themselves for the biggest day of their careers thus far. Each is sizing up the others collections (Mila calls Seth Aaron’s “a glamorous hot topic” and says that Emilio’s brings back memories of a Harlem boutique, circa 1994).
Tim Gunn arrives to check in. He is shocked to discover that Seth Aaron has put together twenty-four different looks. He also has a new hairdo, which doesn’t go over with me and my party-viewing pals. I believe the consensus is “Elmer Fudd mud flaps." But we all love Seth Aaron and pray he’s going to win. Stay tuned…

On tonight’s Project Runway… Amy has to step it up. Mila is ready to redeem herself. Maya expresses her frustration at being the only designer to have not won a challenge.
At the meeting with Heidi Klum (when is she going to have that baby?)… The designers learn that they will be getting “into a New York state of mind” for tonight’s challenge. Tim Gunn, along with L’Oreal Paris makeup man, Collier Strong, further elaborates: “Create a look inspired by a New York City neighborhood.” The four choices are: Chinatown, the East Village (or as I like to call it, the “EVil”), Harlem, and the Upper East Side.
The designers must work in teams of two (which we know they all hate), and create two looks (day and evening) on a $300 budget. Names are drawn to pick team leaders, who then choose their partners. The pairings are: Amy and Jonathan.

(S07E09) Collier Strong makes his seasonal 'Project Runway' appearance to pimp out the L'Oreal makeup. Luckily, we're finally at the halfway point with only eight designers left. I can finally distinguish between all the contestants. This week they were paired up and had to use the culture, architecture, and trends of an area in Manhattan to create a day and night look for only $300.
Chinatown - Anthony & Maya
East Village - Jay & Mila
Upper East Side - Amy & Jonathan
Harlem - Emilio & Seth Aaron
All of the places have very distinct aesthetics, yet somehow Amy & Jonathan manage to botch the idea of a high-class, pale color paired with black.

If you're like me, the results of last night's Project Runway were a shock. I don't think I've ever been more disappointed by who won and who lost.
The show opens at the designer apartments. Ra'mon says to Logan how strange and sad it is that Malvin & Johnny are gone. Me, I'm thinking it's strange and sad that Logan already has his shirt on.
In another bedroom Nicolas is chatting up Epperson and telling him how the competition is going to be a lot quieter: "I can focus on design now, and not on comforting Johnny." Uh, Nicholas, when did you ever focus on "comforting Johnny"? Cold comfort maybe. Last week you threw him under the bus with the judges.
It's off to the studios where Heidi tells them they'll be taking their inspiration from the movies. She dispatches them to a Hollywood studio lot where Tim Gunn and Collier Strong of L'Oreal Paris.

(S06E06) For the first season of Project Runway in Los Angeles, production has been trying their best to use their surroundings for themes. This week Project Runway finally gave the opportunity to make a Hollywood based costume challenge. Unfortunately, the designers didn't realize that the challenge was just a façade for L'oreal Paris to play with the model's hair.
The designers were given a genre, $150, and a day to design a visual masterpiece representing their genres. Somewhere in that day, they lost time to consult with Collier Strong to make sure that L'oreal (and not Garnier even though they are in the same family) was represented.Continue reading Project Runway: Lights, Camera, Sew!
