In today’s film news roundup, Ansel Elgort is going to high school, “Rockaway” gets a release, and “Suspiria” producer Bradley Fischer is honored.
Casting
Ansel Elgort has come aboard to star in the drama “The Great High School Imposter” for Participant Media and Condé Nast Entertainment.
The project is based on a Daniel Riley GQ Magazine article published this year about Artur Samarin, a young Ukranian man who posed as a teenager so he could be adopted by a childless couple in a small Pennsylvania town and became the top student in his high school. Saramin was five years older than he claimed. His adopted parents turned him into the authorities.

"You want to talk with somebody, you talk with me!" Lionsgate Premiere has released an official trailer for a B-movie action crime thriller titled Reprisal. Don't get too excited, even with these two action stars, this movie looks like shit. Surprise, surprise. There's so many of these direct-to-the-bargain-big action being made movies recently, that it's getting kind of annoying. Why!? Why keep making them? What's the point? Who even watches these? Frank Grillo stars as a bank manager haunted by a violent incident in his past, who teams up with his ex-cop neighbor to go after the people behind it. Of course, they then mess with his family and he gets really upset. What an original idea... Ugh. Bruce Willis co-stars along with Johnathon Schaech, Olivia Culpo, Colin Egglesfield, Wass Stevens, and Natali Yura. This movie looks so bad. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Brian A. Miller's Reprisal,...

A couple of years ago, Edward Burns appeared in a TNT limited series called Mob City. It didn't perform very well in the ratings. Now, he's back on the network in a much bigger role -- as an actor, director, and writer. Will Public Morals be a success for Burns and the cable channel? Cancelled or renewed for a second season? Stay tuned.
Set in early 1960s New York City, Public Morals revolves around the professional and personal lives of the members of the NYPD's Public Morals Division. Low Spirits: Galland’s Energetic Supernatural Comedy Doesn’t Retain Dominion
The increasingly tenuous distinction between what constitutes either horror or comedy is further exemplified in Ava’s Possessions, the third feature from multifaceted Jordan Galland. A modified spin on the popular subgenre of demonic possession and exorcism titles that we’ve long been familiar with, Galland’s latest is a comedy marinated generously with supernatural elements. Amusing yet never as clever as one would hope it to be, this plays rather like the simple structure of mainstream fodder like The Hangover parading around in a Halloween costume. Those hoping for something eerie, creepy, or atmospheric will be disappointed, but fans of its attractive cast and some impressive production elements makes this more appealing than dubious detractors may predict.

We first meet Ava (Louisa Krause) as her time possessed is coming to an end. Surrounded by family, a priest finishes up the exorcism and greets the newly freed young woman, but her time with the supernatural is only the beginning of her troubles. She committed numerous crimes while under demonic control — she stole kisses, damaged property and even slashed a throat or two — and now she has to pay for her misdeeds. The court understands that she was possessed and has no memory of her actions, so in lieu of jail time Ava agrees to attend Spirit Possession Anonymous until she’s fully cured. The group is funded by the U.S. government in partnership with the Catholic Church and run by a man named Tony (Wass Stevens), and with his guidance she’ll need to face her victims and prove she’s strong enough to resist a repeat visit from her particular demon (aka Naphula...

World Trade Center actor Wass Stevens has been arrested for assault, reports claim. The actor who played Nicolas Cage's brother in World Trade Center has been arrested on assault charges.
Wass Stevens, 45, who starred alongside Cage in the 2006 film, also works as a doorman in New York and on Wednesday was detained by police and charged with attacking a man outside Manhattan hotspot Avenue.
Stevens - real name Mark Wasserman - has been charged with assault and possession of a weapon after he allegedly beat a 24 year old student with the metal end of velvet rope after refusing him entry.
Peter Pak was taken to the city's St. Vincent's Hospital in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
He tells New York Post gossip column PageSix, "He was very condescending. We started cursing at each other and arguing. He lifted the rope and tossed the end metal part at my face. My head cracked and I fell to the ground. I had to go to the hospital for a Cat scan. There was no internal damage but I had huge blaring headaches."
But Stevens' lawyer, Sal Strazzullo, says: "Wass is 100 per cent innocent. He was released on his own recognisance, without bail, which I think shows you the weakness of the case. There wasn't even a corroborating statement from the victim at the court hearing."
Stevens has appeared alongside Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler and in Richard Gere's upcoming movie Brooklyn's Finest. He has also had recurring roles in TV's Law & Order: Criminal Intent and Ugly Betty.

Mickey Rourke spilled blood in his latest movie role as a wrestler - by deliberately cutting himself with a blade during a fight scene.
The Angel Heart star taped a razor blade to his wrist and sliced his face as the cameras rolled, to make his part in upcoming film The Wrestler more realistic.
His co-star Wass Stevens tells the New York Daily News that Rourke took the drastic action after hearing how real-life fighters sometimes faked injury - to the delight of fans watching.
Wass says, "So Mickey taped a blade to his forearm, and when the time was right, sliced his forehead."...
