- Steven was sentenced to 13 years in prison for armed robbery in 2010 and died on July 31, 2011, at the age of 36, of a heroin overdose while in prison in Tucson, Arizona.
- Developed an addiction to pills and medication following a tonsillectomy. He would sometimes steal to support his addiction.
- He had two roles in common with Leonard Nimoy: (1) Nimoy played Spock in Star Trek (1966) and its numerous spin-offs while Steven played the nine-year-old version of the character in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984) and (2) Nimoy and Steven both played Mel Mermelstein in Never Forget (1991).
- He had two roles in common with Frank Welker: (1) Welker provided Spock's screams in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984) while Steven played the nine-year-old version of the character in the same film and (2) Welker voiced Fred Jones in Scooby Doo, Where Are You! (1969) and its various spin-offs while Steven voiced him in A Pup Named Scooby-Doo (1988).
