True crime is getting more and more entertaining by the day and I don’t if that’s a good thing or a bad one. We have another brilliant true crime drama series, Under the Bridge, created by Quinn Shephard. Based on a 2005 book of the same name by Rebecca Godfrey, the Hulu series is set in 1997 and it follows the murder case of a 14-year-old girl which we see through the eyes of local police officer Cam Bentland and the author Godfrey. Under the Bridge stars Lily Gladstone and Riley Keough in the lead roles with Virtika Gupta, Chloe Guidry, Javon “Wanna” Walton, and Izzy G starring in supporting roles. So, if you love the thrilling and dreadful story of Under the Bridge, here are some other shows that have similar tone and story elements that you should check out next.

According to Deadline, the upcoming Battlestar Galactica reboot has tapped The Sinner creator Derek Simonds to serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner of the series. He replaces Michael Lesslie (The Little Drummer Girl), who was originally attached to write and executive produce.

The WGA East’s second Showrunner Academy gets underway today, with the 31-member class taking part in a program designed to support television writer-producers, upper-level writers and new show creators in honing the skills necessary to become successful showrunners and TV industry leaders.
The Academy, which provides instruction from current showrunners and other industry professionals on a wide range of topics, is led by Diana Son and Frank Pugliese.
“Being a showrunner is so much more than being the creative voice of the show,” Son said in a statement. “It’s also managing a multimillion-dollar endeavor with over 100 employees. We’re bringing in accomplished and experienced showrunners who’re willing to share the breadth of their experience – the good, bad and the ugly – so new showrunners can have a head start on figuring out what kind of showrunner they’re going to be.

The Feature Campus, also led by Pope, will lead screenwriters in developing new feature film scripts.
The program will be split into two phases. Part I will be four weeks long with weekly sessions led by Creator/Showrunner/Screenwriter Derek Simonds as he breaks down the first season of his hit show The Sinner. Simonds will explore the fundamentals of building a successful show and outline how to apply these techniques to new work. Exclusive: Queer advocacy group Out in Hollywood released its second annual list of the best unproduced queer-focused television pilot scripts of the past year.
The 2022 Out Loud List was selected from among hundreds of nominations submitted from across the industry and evaluated based on criteria including the strength of the writer’s voice, viability of the project to be sold in today’s marketplace, and conceptual freshness. A group of readers (including proudly out network/studio execs and producers) helped narrow down the list, which was then curated by Out in Hollywood’s board of directors.
“As challenges continue to present themselves against fundamental rights in our country and abroad, it’s more important than ever to continue championing marginalized voices,” says Logan Kriete, founder of the organization. “Lack of representation and advancement of our basic humanity becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy when we don’t tell these stories, and it...

Has Harry Ambrose finally found some semblance of inner peace?
The series finale of USA Network’s The Sinner seemed to suggest that much: that the retired detective would be Ok once he left Hanover Island. Though it seemed unlikely that he would reunite with ex-girlfriend Sonya — she didn’t answer his call earlier in the episode — the Percy Muldoon case had taught him that he needed to find a way to cope with his lingering guilt surrounding the Season 3 death of Jamie Burns, which had continued to eat at him throughout his time on the island.

Harry Ambrose will finally be able to rest.
USA Network has announced The Sinner Season 4 will bring the show to a conclusion.
“It’s been a huge pleasure and a privilege to be able to tell the kind of stories we have on The Sinner these past four seasons,” said creator and executive producer Derek Simonds.
“UCP and USA have been ideal partners and continually supportive of our creative goals, and I’m so pleased to complete Harry Ambrose’s dramatic series-long arc as we intended in this final season," the statement continues.
"A huge thank you to my partner-in-crime, Bill Pullman, and to the talented actors, writers, directors, and crew who gave their all to help realize this show. It’s been an incredible journey.”
News of the cancellation is surprising, but given the trajectory of USA Network in recent years, it makes sense.

The current fourth season of USA Network’s The Sinner will be its last. The remaining three episodes will air Nov. 17 and Nov. 24, leading to an extended Season 4 — and series — finale on Dec. 1, which will wrap Det. Harry Ambrose’s (Bill Pullman) journey.
This marks another milestone in USA Network’s original programming evolution as UCP-produced The Sinner is the last remaining homegrown scripted series on the network.
The success of a string of scripted hits, including Monk, Burn Notice, Psych, Suits and Mr. Robot, helped NBCUniversal’s USA rank as No. 1 entertainment cable network for 14 years – the longest streak in TV history — in the 2000s and early 2010s.

Throughout the first three seasons of USA’s “The Sinner,” detective Harry Ambrose (Bill Pullman) has always had a convenient justification for when things get complicated. If the case gets too personal, if his methods lead him into dangerous territory, or if anyone questions why he’s asking strangers for seemingly random information, he always had the back-pocket excuse that he was… just doing his job.
At the outset of Season 4, there’s no job for him to do. It’s not quite accurate to say that Harry is enjoying his quasi-retirement. He’s still shaken by the events of last season’s cabin showdown, not to mention being buried alive not too long before that. Sensing that he needs a literal change of scenery, his partner Sonya (Jessica Hecht) takes the lead on a retreat of sorts in an island town off the coast of New England.

Matt Bomer already knew Derek Simonds, the creator and showrunner of “The Sinner,” before being approached about starring in the third season of the USA Network series.

Before Luca Guadagnino directed the 2017 film (which later earned an adapted screenplay Oscar for James Ivory), Simonds worked on an adaptation of the source material — André Aciman’s novel of the same name — says Bomer.

USA Network has ordered a fourth season of its thriller limited drama series The Sinner, with Bill Pullman set to reprise his role as Detective Harry Ambrose. Additionally, the network has picked up two new unscripted series, Instant Family (working title), starring Nicole Walters and Josh Walters, and The Rev (working title), headlined by Pastor Richard Hartley. Both are in the unscripted family sitcom genre, which the network has been focusing on following the success of Chrisley Knows Best.
The renewal and new series pickups are part of the current programming shift at USA away from ongoing scripted series toward more live and unscripted programming, along with “eventized” scripted projects, largely limited/anthology series.
This is a programming strategy that has been gaining momentum among basic cable networks as it is becoming increasingly challenging for premium scripted series to be sustained by the linear ad-supported cable business model.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched the second season finale of “The Sinner” on USA.

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers for the Season 2 finale of “The Sinner.”]
This season of “The Sinner” began with a boy murdering two people who appeared to be his parents and then concluded by upending the picture-perfect image of a man who was supposed to be a model father. The challenges of parenting, the hopes a parent has for their offspring, and the ways in which children could be damaged by those who raise them all came to a head in the finale, which exposed a few more secrets while still leaving some lingering questions.
Perhaps the most horrifying revelations, however, involved Marin (Hannah Gross), whom last we saw dead from a gunshot wound on the grounds of the First Nations reservation. It turns out that she had met up with Jack (Tracy Letts), the father of her former best friend and cop Heather (Natalie Paul). An argument and struggle ensued, and her gun went off, accidentally killing her.

‘The Sinner’ Boss Breaks Down Vera’s Daring Ploy, the Hooded Figure, and the Dangers of Drinking Tea
[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from “The Sinner” Season 2, Episode 6, “Part VI.”]
Serving tea appears to be a family tradition on “The Sinner” this season. Julian Walker (Elisha Henig) gave his poisonous brew to two former Mosswood acolytes who supposedly kidnapped him, and on Wednesday’s episode, it’s revealed that his mother Vera (Carrie Coon) also served tea to the commune leader known as The Beacon (Brennan Brown) as an apology.
Of course, having set a precedent for toxic tea in the premiere, “The Sinner” has taught its viewers to view any steeped hot drink with suspicion. If this is the case, that means Vera assassinated the Beacon and took his place. But only the viewers know about the tea having seen it in the flashback. In her confession to Harry Ambrose (Bill Pullman), she merely says, “He was unhappy for a long time; one day he left us.”

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from “The Sinner” Season 2, Episode 5, “Part V.”]
Mosswood has never felt like the sanctuary that it’s purported to be, but “The Sinner” introduced its most disturbing revelations about the commune yet on Wednesday’s episode.
In flashbacks, Mosswood leader Lionel Jeffries (Brennan Brown), aka The Beacon, presented the concept of scapegoating to Vera Walker (Carrie Coon) in the form of a calf. By raising the calf lovingly, naming it, but then putting all of one’s negative emotions on it, a bond would be created. And then the Mosswood members would kill the calf, thereby symbolically eradicating those emotions in a supposedly healthy way. While sacrificing animals is already a troublesome subject, how the episode ends hints that something worse may lay ahead when the Beacon allows young Marin (Hannah Gross) to remain pregnant, despite previously banning members from having children.
“We’ll raise him, all of us together. The child will bind us,...

“If anyone tells you that they’re not sitting with anticipation waiting, they’re lying,” says Jessica Biel about Emmy nominations morning, when she found out she earned a bid for Best Movie/Mini Actress for “The Sinner.” Watch our exclusive video interview with Biel above.
It was actually Emmy nominations afternoon for Biel. She was in Europe at the time, “so at this point it was 5:00 p.m. I had all day to just wait and wait to see, was this going to happen?” She was in the car with her son when she got the news, dealing with an iPad emergency, and “when your kid’s iPad malfunctions it’s like the world is crumbling,” so she wasn’t able to properly absorb the good news until later that night when she had “a fabulous glass of champagne.”

We know whodunit — the question is, whydunit?
That’s a formula “The Sinner” has crafted to tremendous success. The first season of USA’s limited series scored with viewers, and landed Jessica Biel an Emmy nomination for her starring role. In Season 2, Carrie Coon steps into the spotlight as the enigmatic Vera, a woman who leads a cult-like community and the mother of a boy who has committed two heinous murders.
Everything isn’t what it seems, Coon promises. “[Showrunner] Derek Simonds has all these twists up his very well-tailored sleeves,” she reveals.
The day after shooting wrapped, Coon — a new mother herself — talked with Variety about why she’s drawn to mysterious characters, her biggest fear, and why she thinks cults hold so much appeal for people.
What made you want to sign on for the role?
I was just postpartum when [my husband] Tracy [Letts] got the call to play Jack, and...
