Actor-singer-songwriter Nick Jonas and Laurence Fishburne are set to star in “The Blacksmith” which, financed and produced by Agc Studios, signals a potential early top title with the makings of a new action thriller movie franchise at June’s Cannes virtual markets.
Jonas and Fishburne were unveiled Tuesday by Stuart Ford, Agc Studios chairman and CEO, who also said that the producers would “soon be announcing an equally outstanding young female actor to play across from Nick.”
“Taken’s” Pierre Morel will direct from a screenplay adaptation by Ben Ripley of the acclaimed 2011 graphic novel from Kickstart Comics by Malik Evans and Richard Sparkman.
“Pairing“ an exhilarating young talent like Nick with seasoned heavyweights such as Pierre and Laurence” means that after the female lead’s casting, “we will have all the ingredients for a major new film franchise built around a very modern breed of action hero,” Ford added.

Director Ry Russo-Young forgot to feel the pressure. Zoey Deutch Halston, Sage Logan Miller in “Before I Fall” by Ry Russo-Young
To begin about this film is to say it is a ‘Ground Hog Day’ story.
The lead character, a popular high school girl, has an unremarkable — if a bit troubling — life, including difficult friends, challenging social life, some boy / sex issues and some big questions for her as to “what’s it all about?”
But why? Toward what end? How to resolve?
As the story begins Sam is one lucky teenager. She’s beautiful, rich, and popular, with the hottest boyfriend and the most loyal friends.
But she and her posse can be cruel and heartless; since elementary school they’ve relentlessly bullied one of their unfortunate female classmates.
On Friday, February 12th, driving home from a party, Sam is in a dramatic car crash.
This mysterious car wreck at the end of her day leads to her — what?...

If you went to school in the late '80s or '90s, you'll no doubt know that nothing mattered more than the cover art on your Trapper Keeper. Maybe you were a Transformers kid. Maybe you had a totally rad sports car. Maybe you had unicorns and rainbows. Whatever the case, we can all agree that Trapper Keeper were kind of a big deal. And now they're going to be a big deal on the big screen, too. THR reports '90s trapper keeper art icon Lisa Frank is teaming up with producer Jon Shestack to turn her imaginary world of organizational cover art into a movie. It'll be a mixture of live-action and animation and tell a story about...well, no one knows. It's not like Trapper Keepers had elaborate backstories. The inside flap didn't have ten pages of...

In a move that we’re honestly surprised hasn’t happened earlier, Lisa Frank is channeling its weapons-grade cuteness into a feature film, as Deadline reports. Company founder Lisa Frank herself is spearheading the project, which means that those looking for a mud-slinging expose of the company‘s history of shady business dealings and employee abuse a la The Founder will almost surely be disappointed. Instead, the film will be a blend of live action and animation featuring “iconic” Lisa Frank characters like the optical-illusion leopard, the panda who gets paint everywhere, and the bear who kind of looks like a kid-friendly Flavor Flav familiar from decades’ worth of scented stickers and Trapper Keepers.
Of the project, indie producer Jon Shestack says, “Lisa Frank’s world is cheerful, it’s optimistic, it’s hip, but it is without snark. It’s just sort of impossible to scowl when you’re...

Lisa Frank, whose eponymous company’s psychedelic designs dominated classrooms in the ’80s and ’90s, is bringing those vivid characters to life in a live action/animated hybrid feature film she’s developing with independent producer Jon Shestack. A studio is not yet attached to the project, which the producers plan to develop independently with UTA. Shestack most recently produced the drama “Before I Fall” for Awesomeness Films, which will be distributed by Open Road with a March 3 opening. Frank’s stickers, pencil cases and Trapper Keepers were a middle school phenomenon back in the day, with the company grossing more than $60 million a year.

(Cbr) FX will expand its lineup with an adaptation of "Redshirts", the comedic sci-fi novel by author John Scalzi. The book, which tackles tropes from the original Star Trek series, follows the adventures of "Intrepid" ensign Andrew Dahl, who quickly realizes he and his ilk are basically cannon fodder. The novel gets meta from there, as Dahl and company discover they’re actually characters on a TV show. The novel won a Hugo Award in 2013. Deadline reports the series will be produced by Jon Shestack ("Waiting…", "Disturbing Behavior"), Ken Kwapis ("The Office", "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants") and Alexandra Beattie ("Outsourced")....

FX has teamed up with producers Jon Shestack ("Dan in Real Life"), Ken Kwapis ("The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants") and Alexandra Beattie to bring "Redshirts," a comedic sci-fi novel published in 2012, to the small screen, Deadline reports. At first unsure of the cause of these deaths, the crew realize that their situation mirrors that of a certain 21st century science fiction television show. Essentially, their lives -- and deaths -- are following a TV plot. Kwapis is set to direct the premiere episode with Shestack and Beattie executive producing. Prior to "Redshirts," Kwapis and Beattie were working on the Showtime comedy "Happyish," put on hold following the death of Phillip Seymour Hoffman who was cast as the lead.
