Will Smith and Martin Lawrence arrived at the Los Angeles premiere of “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” on Thursday night atop a double decker bus, where they were greeted by cheering fans lining Hollywood Boulevard. “It’s not just here,” Smith told Variety about the fans who continued to support him, even when his reputation faltered in the wake of the Oscars slap. “It’s all over the world. Every time we step out together, it’s nothing but love. I think the fans are ride or die also.”
Inside the Tcl Chinese Theatre, the actor thanked Sony Pictures Entertainment chairperson Tom Rothman for sticking by him. “Tom Rothman is a real life ride or die,” he said. “Tom Rothman was messing with me when nobody was messing with me. That is my dude.”

As a very bad summer movie season at the box office drones on, it looks like Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett are going to do their very best to save the day. Sony's "Bad Boys: Ride or Die" hits theaters next weekend and will look to reignite the box office after a particularly quiet, post-Memorial Day weekend. While Will Smith is no longer the surefire bet he once was in the '90s and early 2000s, in the early going, it looks like this one will be a winner for the A-lister and his co-star Martin Lawrence.
Directed once again by "Bad Boys for Life" duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, the upcoming fourth entry in the "Bad Boys" franchise is going to easily top the charts on its opening weekend with a debut in the $48 to $58 million range, per Box Office Theory. Columbia Pictures’ action-comedy movie “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” is set to play in cinemas in mainland China from June 22, it was announced on Thursday.
Starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, the film is the fourth in the nearly 30-year-old Bad Boys franchise. It sees the titular Miami cops investigate corruption in the police force after their late boss is accused of colluding with a foreign mafia. But the tables are turned and the pair have to go on the run while still trying to solve the case.
The film releases in a multitude of international territories from June 5 and in North America from June 7. The China date, only two weeks later, is in keeping with recent trends that give Hollywood titles near-synchronized outings in the Middle Kingdom and a modicum of marketing runway.

The Bad Boys are back, baby! There have been some early screenings of Bad Boys: Ride or Die in the past weeks, and the first reactions on social media are quite positive. Our own Chris Bumbray caught a screening last week and was a big fan, saying the sequel was just as much fun as the last movie.
We got an early look at #BadBoysRideOrDie last week, and it’s just about as much fun as Bad Boys For Life. It’s a total blast, with some great action and a terrific role for Jacob Scipio, who has some really great action scenes.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die is phenomenal.
I love the Bad Boys franchise. This one raised every bar. It’s nonstop hilarious. Innovative action beats. So much chemistry with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.
The best time I’ve had at the movies in a while.

Bad Boys apparently really are for life as it seems that this action-packed franchise isn’t ending anytime soon with Sony Pictures’ Bad Boys 4 set to reach theatres in just a couple months. This series, centered on detectives Mike Lowery and Marcus Burnett of the Miami Police Department, has already produced three blockbuster films that have grossed over $840 million as well as a spinoff television show, L.A.’s Finest, making it one of the most successful buddy-cop action-comedy series in history. The most recent film, Bad Boys for Life, was one of the last movies to hit theaters before the pandemic shut them all down and was able to be a critical and box office success – so why would the franchise stop now? Will Smith and Martin Lawrence (Lowery and Burnett) are back for the fourth film, and this is music to the ears of fans of the series since...

Martin Lawrence and Will Smith return for the fourth Bad Boys film, Bad Boys: Ride Or Die. Here’s the trailer for the film.
Nearly 30 years after the original film landed, Bad Boys: Ride Or Die is headed for cinemas in a few weeks’ time.
The previous film in the series. Bad Boys For Life was the highest-grossing film of 2020, although of course quite a lot of things happened in 2020 which meant that as statistics go, that one doesn’t mean all that much. It was the lowest-grossing number one film since the mid-90s.
The future of the film was up in the air ever since Will Smith severely damaged his public image following the slap incident at 2022’s Oscars ceremony. While the film did eventually find a path to production we imagine that the chances of a Chris Rock cameo are probably pretty low.
Here’s the synopsis:...

AMC Networks’ plans to submit the zombie spinoff “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live” as a limited series for the Emmys have been killed.
The cable network had announced plans to submit the six-episode spinoff, created by Scott M. Gimple, Danai Gurira, and Andrew Lincoln, for outstanding limited or anthology series at the Primetime Emmys. However, Variety has learned exclusively from two sources with direct knowledge that the show is ineligible to submit in the category.
In 2021, the Television Academy defined what constitutes a limited or anthology series, stating that the story must be resolved within its season without any ongoing storylines. This criteria affected past winners, such as the second season of “The White Lotus,” which was required to compete as a drama due to Jennifer Coolidge’s recurring character. According to the Academy’s ruling at the time, “the reappearance in a subsequent ‘season’ of one character...

Ready to make your 2024 Emmy predictions for Best Drama Supporting Actress? Before you do, take a look through our photo gallery featuring the likeliest contenders. Elizabeth Debicki (“The Crown”) being the only 2023 nominee eligible to return puts her in the frontrunner position and leaves the remaining slots open to a bevy of formidable newcomers and past hopefuls.
This year’s supporting actress candidates will not have to fend off reigning champ Jennifer Coolidge of “The White Lotus,” which is set to return in 2025 with an almost completely fresh cast. All nine acting nominees from the show’s most recent season are presumably finished playing their roles, as are 2023 featured female competitors Rhea Seehorn and J. The last sequel, Bad Boys for Life, arrived nearly twenty years after the release of Bad Boys II. The film was a big success, and the studio quickly got the ball rolling on a sequel. Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah returned to direct Bad Boys 4, with production kicking off last April, but they were forced to pause due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.

The EFM (European Film Market) continues to heat up, with another promising project hitting the scene. Will Smith will star in the biggest-budgeted project at the show, Sugar Bandits. With a reported budget that circles $80 million, Sugar Bandits follows “a former Special Forces solider who joins an elite, vigilante squad aiming to wipe out the drug trade in Boston, but soon learns things are not what they seem.”
Sugar Bandits has sat on the Hollywood sidelines with Universal setting director Joe Carnahan on the project. However, it’s now heading to EFM, where filmmakers scope out independent projects. Sugar Bandits is based on the screenplay and novel Devils In Exile by Chuck Hogan, with Smith and Jon Mone producing through Westbrook Studios. Ryan Shimizaki oversees the project, with Stuart Ford joining the production effort through AGC Studios, which is financing the film entirely. Additionally, Richard Abate produces via 3 Arts Entertainment.

There may not be a setting more suited to English language television than the courtroom.

There are certain television shows that people within the entertainment industry all watch and admire, and one of those shows was Better Call Saul, the celebrated prequel-sequel to the almighty Breaking Bad. The number of influential filmmakers who watched Saul is at least a mile long (Steven Soderbergh, Guillermo del Toro, Darren Aronofsky to name a few), and the brass at Marvel Studios are all included in that group. So it was hardly a surprise when Marvel sought out Saul writer-producer Marion Dayre to lead the writers’ room of Echo, a mature miniseries that’s centered on Maya Lopez/Echo (Alaqua Cox), who was first introduced as Wilson “Kingpin” Fisk’s (Vincent D’Onofrio) deaf enforcer on Hawkeye (2021).
Under the tutelage of Saul co-creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould, Dayre became a two-time WGA Award-nominated TV writer. She first co-wrote season two’s “Klick,” which put Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks) on...

Better Call Saul’s Recording-Breaking 53rd Emmys Snub Isn’t Affecting Fans, One Says “It Has Entered Vaunted ‘Too Good For Emmys’ Pantheon… (Photo Credit – IMDb)
“S’all Good, Man,” this is what Bob Odenkirk would say to his fans who are going crazy on the internet for Better Call Saul’s latest record. It’s not a record to be proud of up, but it also isn’t a record that should matter to anyone in 2024. Breaking Bad‘s classic prequel series has set a record of earning 53 nominations at the Emmys 2024 without winning a single award.
The show ended its six-season run, and there won’t be any more Saul Goodman from hereon. Yes, we are grieving over the show’s ending, but the award show snubbing isn’t something the fans would even care about. It’s 2024, and a majority of us are aware of how these shows work.

The 2023 Emmy Awards finally took place on Monday night, with series like The Bear, Beef and Succession winning big.
The ceremony, hosted by Anthony Anderson and held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, was postponed for months due to the Hollywood writers’ and actors’ strikes. The National Active Members of the Television Academy voted on the awards from August 18 to August 28, 2023.
Succession walked away with seven wins for its final season, including Best Drama and recognition for actors Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook and Matthew Macfadyen. The show also received awards for Best Directing for a Drama Series for Mark Mylod and Best Writing for a Drama Series for Jesse Armstrong.

‘Succession’ wins for Outstanding Drama Series at the 75Th Emmy Awards (Photo © 2024 Fox Media LLC)
In a normal year, the 2023 Emmy Awards would have actually taken place in 2023. But last year was anything but normal in Hollywood, and the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes caused the award ceremony’s postponement to January 15, 2024.
Fans of Succession, The Bear, and Beef had a lot to celebrate as Emmy voters threw most of the awards in their direction. Succession and The Bear tied with six wins each, and Beef wasn’t far behind with five.
Highlights included Christina Applegate’s surprise appearance on stage to a standing ovation, Carol Burnett presenting to Quinta Brunson (the first Black actress to win as Lead Actress in a Comedy since 1981), and Niecy Nash-Betts’ powerful acceptance speech for Dahmer. There were also cast reunions and Sir Elton John finally received the E portion of Egot for his Farewell From Dodger Stadium special.

"Better Call Saul" is officially one of the best Emmy-losing shows of all time. During Monday's 75th Primetime Emmys telecast, the acclaimed AMC series went home empty-handed for the sixth season in a row, bringing its tally up to an impressively depressing zero wins and 53 losses. According to Variety, that means the drama has the worst Emmys track record of any nominee in the award show's history.
Emmy voters clearly have a penchant for acknowledging the "Breaking Bad" prequel enough to nominate it in several key categories, yet leave it out in the cold when the time comes to actually hand out trophies. Most recently, the show earned nods for stars Rhea Seehorn and Bob Odenkirk, as well as writers Peter Gould and Gordon Smith. Way back in (checks notes) July last year, we reported on the Emmy nominations, noting that the strikes could delay it. Welp, delay it they did, and the 2023 ceremony has just happened in Los Angeles on Monday night. The ceremony, hosted by actor and comedian Anthony Anderson, had little reference to the strikes, but did dig back into TV history given that it was the 75th ceremony. Recent history, though, was more on voters' minds as Beef, Succession and The Bear continued their small screen awards domination.
Succession and The Bear nabbed six trophies each across acting, directing and writing categories, while Beef took home five. Other winners included Jennifer Coolidge (for The White Lotus) and Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story's Niecy Nash-Betts.

It’s official: Better Call Saul hasn’t won a single Emmy.
The acclaimed Breaking Bad spinoff scored 53 Emmy nominations over its six-season run but failed to win a single award. The final season was nominated for seven awards at the 2023 Emmys, including the top prizes of best actor in a drama series and best drama series.
During its AMC run, Breaking Bad won 16 Emmys, including two awards for best drama series.
But Saul, which also aired on AMC, couldn’t compete with its predecessor’s Emmy success.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter ahead of Monday’s Emmys, Better Call Saul actress Rhea Seehorn, nominated for supporting actress in a drama series, indicated she was happy with the series even if it went into history without an Emmy win.

The long-delayed Emmy Awards for the 2022-2023 TV season had to overcome the challenge of seeming like a complete afterthought — and for the most part it succeeded.
The ceremony for the 75th Emmys was designed as a tribute to the medium, and featured reunions from shows such as “All in the Family,” “The Sopranos,” “Martin” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” the last of which featured the beloved, departed cast members Katherine Heigl and Justin Chambers, alongside Og stars Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr. Among the evening’s highlights were Jennifer Coolidge thanking “all the evil gays,” Niecy Nash-Betts thanking herself and “every Black and Brown woman who have gone unheard, yet overpoliced,” and a moving, hilarious appearance by nominee Christina Applegate as the show’s first presenter. And HBO’s “Succession” took its final victory lap after the Jesse Armstrong-created series ended in May of last year, including...

After six seasons and 53 Emmy nominations, including seven for Outstanding Drama Series, Better Call Saul has left us without a single win.
The critically acclaimed Breaking Bad prequel was nominated for seven Emmys tonight, including Outstanding Drama Series, Lead Actor for Bob Odenkirk as Saul Goodman, Supporting Actress for Rhea Seehorn as Kim Wexler, as well as Picture Editing, Short Form Comedy, Drama or Variety Series, Sound Mixing and two nominations in the Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series category for the “Point and Shoot” episode and series finale, “Saul Gone”, but came up empty for all.
The series somehow, despite its acclaim, never matched the awards success of the mothership series, which won 16 Emmys out of 58 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, four Lead Actor wins for Bryan Cranston, three for Aaron Paul in the supporting actor category and one for Anna Gunn for supporting actress.

The Emmys finally happened.
After a four-month delay due to the WGA and SAG strikes, the 2023 Primetime Emmys took place January 15 in Los Angeles. The big takeaway? There may just be way too much TV for Emmy voters to watch, so much like the noms suggested back in July 2023, winners during the ceremony were mainly confined to a few big hits.
Those hits were well-deserved, however: “Succession” closed out its final Emmys with six wins, including the big one for Outstanding Drama Series. “The Bear” made a huge impression out of the gate, notching an Outstanding Comedy Series win for its first season, as well as individual wins for Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Ayo Edebiri.
“Beef” likewise cleaned up. The buzzy Netflix project scored wins for Outstanding Limited Series as well as individual wins for Ali Wong, Steven Yeun, and creator Lee Sung Jin (also an IndieWire Honors recipient!

Rhea Seehorn may not have won the Emmy for best supporting actress in a drama series for her Better Call Saul role at the 2023 Emmys, but she’s already teasing a reunion with Better Call Saul co-creator Vince Gilligan.
While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter on the Emmys red carpet, the actress remained coy on what the series and role was, but shared some more about the role that Gilligan wrote specifically for her.
“We’re never allowed to say anything! He’s already released that it has a sci-fi element; more psychological than full space,” Seehorn told THR. “And he wrote it for me — which is hard to say without crying. And we will shoot in Albuquerque, with a lot of the same crew.”
“Vince is very loyal and likes the family of people that he has worked with and prefers to hire the same people over and over,...

Jennifer Coolidge is wanting to give a special thanks to the “evil Gays” after winning the Emmy for drama actress during Monday night’s 2023 Emmys.
The actress was nominated alongside Rhea Seehorn (Better Call Saul), Elizabeth Debicki (The Crown), Meghann Fahy (The White Lotus), Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus), Aubrey Plaza (The White Lotus), J. Smith-Cameron (Succession) and Simona Tabasco (The White Lotus).
After taking the stage, Coolidge was quick to quip that she doesn’t “have the strength” to hold the award so she had to put it down next to her prior to giving her acceptance speech.
After thanking The White Lotus creator Mike White, Coolidge couldn’t help but joke of her character’s fate: “He [White] says I’m definitely dead so I’m going along with it.”
She then further alluded to her character Tanya McQuoid’s storyline, who died in the finale after discovering her...
