The Door, directed by Anno Saul, is an inventive genre piece blending sci-fi, horror and magic realism.
Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale) stars as an artist whose young daughter drowns in a garden swimming pool while he’s busy screwing a next door neighbour.
Crippled by guilt and remorse, he attempts to commit suicide only to be saved by his close friend Max. While escaping from a bar where his friend has taken him for a drink David stumbles across a mysterious door leading through a tunnel into an alternate reality. Then things get really messed up.
Suddenly realising where he, David saves his daughter from her imminent death while his 'other self' is busy shagging said next door neighbour. Upon the other's return David murders him and takes over as man of the house. His daughter immediately senses something’s wrong and others note the change while seeing nothing really out of place.

2009, Germany
Glowering Danish sex god Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale) comes face to face with himself in director Anno Saul’s German fantasy thriller, The Door. It’s one of many head-scratching moments in a film that flirts with different genres and ideas, from time-travel, horror and homicidal doppelgangers to old-fashioned redemptive drama. Narrative coherence isn’t its strong point, but The Door does deliver some genuinely heart-stopping moments.
Artist David Andernach (Mikkelsen), leaves his young daughter Leonie (Valeria Eisenbart) alone in the garden of their suburban house so he can visit his mistress. His afternoon delight turns into a nightmare, when he returns to find the girl drowned in the swimming pool. Five years pass, and a clumsily scripted scene reveals that David is now divorced from his wife Maja (Jessica Schwarz) and in a suicidal state. Then a...

If I had the holiday time left, I’d be booking a trip to España right about now. The 43rd annual Sitges kicks off on October 7th and their line up so far is impressive. Damned impressive.
In competition are Gregg Araki’s Kaboom (teaser, stills), Christopher Smith’s Black Death (review), Jalmari Helander’s Rare Exports (trailer), Quentin Dupieux’s Rubber (clip) and Takashi Miike’s 13 Assassins among many others. In competition in the Panorama section are another great set of films including Shion Sono’s Cold Fish (trailer), Takeshi Kitano’s Outrage (trailer), Jim Mickle’s Stake Land (trailer) and Srdjan Spasojevic’s A Serbian Film (review).
If those titles aren’t enough, there’s loads more including Rob Stefaniuk’s vampire musical road trip film Suck (review, trailer), James Wan’s Insidious (clip), Adam Green’s Frozen (trailer), Black Lightning (trailer), Super (clip), The Vanishing on 7th...

From what it appears, this German feature from Anno Saul which stars Mads Mikkelsen is about loss and alternate time lines which allow you to do things over. Although, it looks like in each time line, someone has to die, and as there are no English subs available yet, possibly some secret organization which knows about this ability.
The film centers on the formerly successful painter David who has lost control over his life after being responsible for the death of his seven-year-old daughter Leonie through a fatal decision. One day, seven years later, he discovers a door which will give him the opportunity to start all over again. However, what initially appears to be a wonderful chance for a new beginning, soon turns out to be a veritable horror scenario, since not everything in the past is quite as it seems....

Directed by Anno Saul, this film is based on the 2001 novel Die Damalstuer by Akif Pirinçci, and while the synopsis sounds fantastic, we know little else of the horror described. We're still waiting on a trailer.
