- Longtime member of the Oak Ridge Boys country-pop vocal group. Former lead singer for popular country group Oak Ridge Boys. (1987-1996) Sang baritone with the Oak Ridge Boys.
- As a teenager (1966-1971), he was known as a gospel singer, sometimes called Little Steve Sanders.
- Police were called to Sanders' Cape Coral, Florida home by his wife, Janet, where he was found dead on the bathroom floor from a gunshot wound to the head.
