There are so many horror movies released every week – even just in the UK, I’m sure there’s many more released worldwide – it’s a shame that a huge percentage of these wont be seen by as many people as they maybe deserve to be, solely because it might not be top of a long list of films people will see at some point. So I always enjoy watching as many as the smaller indie genre movies as I possibly can and 30 Miles From Nowhere is one of these.

"Is there anything you've done that would make someone come after you?" IFC Midnight has debuted the official trailer for a Hitchcockian thriller titled Midnighters, the feature directorial debut of editor Julius Ramsay (of work on shows like "The Walking Dead", "Battlestar Galactica", "Flashforward"). Midnighters is about a couple in a strained marriage who face the ultimate test after they cover up a terrible crime and find themselves entangled in a Hitchcockian web of deceit and madness on New Year's Eve. The film stars Alex Essoe and Dylan McTee, along with Perla Haney-Jardine, Ward Horton, Andrew Rothenberg, and Joseph Anderson. This looks a bit odd, but it might be creepy & thrilling. The film "offers a layered, enigmatic thriller set in the Gothic backwoods of New England – the perfect place to get away with murder." Here's the official Us trailer (+ poster) for Julius Ramsay's Midnighters, direct from IFC's YouTube: A...

Charlottesville, Va. — A Virginia man who was a personal assistant and financial manager for Dave Matthews Band violinist Boyd Tinsley has admitted embezzling at least $400,000 from the musician.
Getty Andrew Rothenberg, who had been friends with Tinsley for about two decades, pleaded guilty Tuesday to wire fraud in federal court in Charlottesville, court documents showed.
Rothenberg, 39, was initially paid $50,000 a year to pay Tinsley's personal bills and expenses and direct investments for him. He also handled various personal and financial arrangements for Tinsley's wife, court documents said. Rothenberg's salary was later increased to $60,000.
Rothenberg routinely padded the bills and took the excess money for personal use from 2009 through 2012. He also withdrew cash from several accounts controlled by Tinsley, wrote checks to himself and accessed lines of credit established in Tinsley's name.
In one transaction Feb. 21, 2012, Rothenberg obtained $45,596. He got $41,388 in another transaction on Oct. 11, 2011. Other amounts ranged from about $1,200 to...

So far on Season 3 of "The Walking Dead," the prison and Woodbury have remained separate but creatively equal storylines. Tonight is the beginning of those worlds colliding, and raises anticipation even more for the final two episodes of the season's first half. (Yes, it's true, we've only got two "Dead"s left in 2012.)
Maggie and Glenn are now in Woodbury (but they're probably only seeing it the way Lieutenant Welles of the National Guard saw it, and not the way Andrea or even Michonne experienced it), and Michonne is about to enter the prison (assuming Rick lets her in). In a way, all three of them are where they are because of Merle.
"Hounded" opens with Merle and three members of The Governor's "research team" hunting Michonne. Apparently, The Governor isn't too happy about Michonne leaving Woodbury and has no plans to peacefully let her go her own way. When...

Frank Darabont, who recently brought us the first season of AMC’s zombie hit The Walking Dead, has moved on to TNT to develop L.A. Noir and the word is that yet another familiar face may be circling a role, this time in the form of a former Punisher (though not my favorite one) and Hung star Thomas Jane. THR reports that Darabont wants Jane to play the role of Bugsy Siegel in the period crime drama. The famous mobster would not appear in the pilot, which has already wrapped, but is eluded to.
Already in the L.A. Noir is former Walking Dead star Jon Bernthal and Heroes star Milo Ventimiglia. Bernthal will play the central role of a cop who is gunning for mobster Mickey Cohen, while Milo plays an upcoming ace Mob lawyer and former marine who served in the war with Bernthal. Ever since show runner Frank Darabont left The Walking Dead, his new series, TNT’s L.A. Noir has been met with unbridled enthusiasm and hype. And who can blame anyone? The show has already snapped up the mercurial Jon Bernthal (Shane from Twd) as the lead, and has Milo Ventimiglia (Heroes), Neil McDonough (Captain America, Justified), Jeffrey DeMunn (Dale!) and Andrew Rothenberg (Jim!) rounding out a stellar cast, but most if not all of them are signed on to be a part of the Lapd. What about the criminals?
According to Hollywood Reporter, Darabont has eyes on the well Hung star to play mobster Bugsy Siegel in the Lapd vs. mobster crime series, in the first of what will probably be many mobster hires. Jane hasn’t signed on yet and is merely talking it out with the man, but this looks like it’ll happen. This certainly has the...

Production of TNT's "L.A. Noir" pilot has wrapped, but if the show gets a series order at TNT showrunner Frank Darabont has his eye on an actor to play the role of mob boss Bugsy Siegel: "Hung's" Thomas Jane.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Jane wasn't available to take part in the pilot but may appear "in printed materials."
The show stars Jon Bernthal ("The Walking Dead's" Shane) as Joe Teague, a Los Angeles cop hot on the trail of mobster Mickey Cohen. Former "Heroes" co-star Milo Ventimiglia also co-stars, along with Neil McDonough and "Twd" alums Jeffrey DeMunn and Andrew Rothenberg. Simon Pegg guest stars in the pilot.
This would be Jane's first return to series TV since "Hung" was canceled by HBO in 2011.

Frank Darabont is looking to cast Thomas Jane in his new gangster TV series for TNT called L.A. Noir. Darabont and Jane worked together on the big screen adaptation of Stephen King's The Mist, which was an awesome movie... until the last five minutes. Damn, that ending really pissed me off.
Jane is currently in talks to take on the role of mobster Bugsy Siegel, which is awesome! This would be a great role for Jane who is an underrated actor who should be working more. The pilot episode has already wrapped production so Jane will most likely show up later in the season if it gets a full order from the network.
Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead) will play Joe Teague, the Los Angeles cop at the center of the show that examines corruption in the Lapd and ties between police and underworld figures in the 1940s and '50s.

According to a very reliable source -- the Twitter account of actor Andrew Rothenberg -- both he and another "Walking Dead" alum -- Jeffrey DeMunn -- have signed on to roles in Frank Darabont's new TNT pilot, "L.A. Noir."

Frank Darabont must've had more fun on The Walking Dead than we thought. With the casting news of deceased Dead players Jeffrey DeMunn (Dale) and Andrew Rothenberg (this guy, Jim, also completely dead) joining Darabont's forthcoming TNT series L.A. Noir, plus the earlier casting of Jon Bernthal (Shane), that's three alums from Darabont's ill-fated stint at AMC. (To be fair, DeMunn is basically Russell Crowe to Darabont's Ridley Scott — he even took part in 2006's wretched The Mist.)...

Series taking shape as pilot moves toward shooting
There isn’t any reason for anybody around here to attempt shielding their excitment about Frank Darabont’s upcoming series, L.A. Noir. For true blue crime geeks, the series is basically promising the moon–a Darabont-led hardboiled series that takes place on the same fertile urban playground upon which Chandler and Ellroy invented and reinvented the genre over the past century.
Darabont’s transition and subsequent ascent into the upper echelons of cable royalty on the wings of The Walking Dead have virtually guaranteed him an audience, as well as creative contol over any project in which he chooses to take part. It’s also guaranteed him our complete attention.
Darabont will direct the pilot episode and serve as showrunner for the series, which will star Walking Dead‘s Jon Bernthal in the lead role. Today it was reported that Bernthal will...

Hollywood loves a good afterparty and it looks like the upcoming TNT drama L.A. Noir is quickly becoming the afterparty for the The Walking Dead.
[Spoiler alert for The Walking Dead fans]
Actors Jeffrey DeMunn and Andrew Rothenberg have landed over at the TNT pilot. DeMunn, who ended his run as Dale in tragic fashion in Season 2 (killed off by a zombie that young Carl lured into the farm). Rothenberg was a guest on Season 1 of the AMC show; his character Jim died a bloody death as well.
This looks like a win for Noir showrunner Frank Darabont, who, of course, was the initial showrunner on Twd until he famously stepped down midway through Season 2.
The two join Jon Bernthal, who also concluded his Twd run in the penultimate episode of the second season (after dying twice).
According to TVGuide.com, DeMunn is set to play Hal Morrison, the detective at the head of the Lapd mob squad,...

Fear not, Walking Dead fans: If your favorite character gets killed off, they'll just end up on Frank Darabont's new TNT crime drama L.A. Noir.

Frank Darabont's forthcoming TNT drama L.A. Noir (which Darabont still insists is not an adaptation of the video game, no matter how many times we express doubt by screaming at him) continues to be a refuge for former Walking Dead actors and/or big ol' batch of potential spoilers for newcomers to that show. Whether out of lingering camaraderie or Darabont's thirst for revenge for getting fired, a character dies on The Walking Dead and soon enough they find themselves reanimated in 1940s Los Angeles, with Jeffrey DeMunn and Andrew Rothenberg the latest to join the previously ...

Episode 212 “Better Angels”
Everyone knows that shows save their best for the finale, right? Well expectations keep running higher and higher for The Walking Dead especially when they keep topping themselves in Season 2. The matter of Randall (Michael Zegen) was finally dealt with, although not smoothly and for those who have been chanting for Shane (Jon Bernthal) to pay for what he’s done. There cannot be a complaint with the way he went out–twice.
The Outbreak
Before I get to the drama involved, I want to discuss the science at work. Shane’s death and resurrection as a walker, along with Randall’s transformation confirmed what many feared. (Let’s not forget the two policemen walkers who showed no signs of being bitten) That at least four walkers we can confirm did not have bite marks that turned. All it takes now is to be bitten but kept alive long enough,...

Here’s what we know. Former The Walking Dead showrunner Frank Darabont has been given the greenlight by TNT to produce the pilot for his project L.A. Noir, a drama about police corruption and the underworld – the criminal underworld – in the 1940s and 50s, based on the book by John Buntin.
Variety now reports that Jon Bernthal, who plays Shane on The Walking Dead, is in “early conversations” with TNT to play L.A. cop Joe Teague, the lead character. “Sources close to the situation emphasized that discussions have barely begun and there’s no certainty a deal will come together,” so who knows.
There is likely an affinity between Darabont and Bernthal, as the character of Shane is killed very early in the comic book series, but reports have been that Darabont and others liked the character in the show so much that they decided that his survival would...

Cal (Tim Roth) and Gillian (Kelli Williams) are called in after the disappearance of a couple's adopted daughter, Samantha (Madeline Carroll). Peter (Bradford Tatum) and Lorraine (Megan Follows) have offered a reward for info and as usual this brings out all the gold diggers and low lives looking to score a quick buck. There have been plenty of tips on the tipline. Lorraine asks Cal if he has children - as does everyone - wondered how long that question would take to be posed. Cal comes straight out with it and asks if they've killed Samantha, over and over. The parents are genuinely shocked and distressed by this, leading Cal to conclude they didn't. Outside, Cal sends the reporters away by giving them a false lead to the Happy Dragon restaurant. The restaurant could do with the business and the couple needed their privacy. Det John Hughes (Mahershalalhashbaz Ali) wonders...

After a completely dry last week, we are treated to the release of "The Walking Dead" Season One Blu-ray/DVD set this week, and boy, does it kick a copious amount of ass. While it is no secret that we were ardent fans of the AMC series during its television run, having this epic Frank Darabont, Robert Kirkman classic at our fingertips whenever we want it excites us to no end.
Much credit for the success of "The Walking Dead" should also go to the cast members: Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Jeffrey DeMunn, Steven Yeun, Chandler Riggs, Norman Reedus, Emma Bell, IronE Singleton, Michael Rooker, and Noah Emmerich.
There are a few other choice releases on March 8th also; check 'em all out below.

In case you haven't set your DVR yet, don't forget that beginning tomorrow, January 18th, AMC is airing a two-night encore of the entire first season of "The Walking Dead", and as part of the encore experience, the network is posting new interviews with the show's talented supporting cast. Today we have Andrew Rothenberg, aka Jim.
Rothenberg relates his personal experience with premonitions, describes a near-death experience, and shares his strategy of killing walkers with comedy.
Q: As someone who earns a living emoting, is it hard to play a character who holds so much back?
A: It's not. I enjoy saving it. I think it makes it more intriguing to the audience because they want to know what is going on in that person. I used to work with Michael Shannon in Chicago, and he would say to me, "Put a fire under it, Rothenberg," because I was always...

*Here be some spoilers.
Director: Ernest R. Dickerson.
Writers: Frank Darabont, Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, Charlie Adlard and Glen Mazzara.
Episode 5 of "The Walking Dead" aired November 28th and this three quarters of an hour episode brought the surviving characters to an almost abandoned Center for Disease Control. On the way there, more characters would pass and the central feeling portrayed over and over again was one of grief. This episode was character heavy, light in action and important for getting the refugees of the zombie apocalypse into a safe zone.
The episode begin with the remnants of a zombie battle being removed from the survivors' camp. Andrea (Laurie Holden) mistakenly holds onto her dead sister, Amy (Emma Bell), for a little too long. The infection spreads through their ranks killing Jim (Andrew Rothenberg), and minor character Ed (Adam Minarovich). The trip to Atlanta is mostly uneventful, with the only surviving member of the Cdc,...

Story: Following the aftermath of the zombie attack on their camp, the remaining survivors are forced to address the freshly dead with permanent solutions. For his own part, one injured survivor makes an unconventional request, while Andrea (Laurie Holden) tries to figure out how to deal with her sister Amy (Emma Bell).
When Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and his allies conclude that it's no longer safe to keep their camp in one spot, the survivors pack up and move on towards the Center for Disease Control — but what they find there is certainly not what they were expecting.
Let The Right Ones In: It's one thing to battle the walking dead, but it's another to see someone you love die right before your eyes, only to turn into one of the undead monsters a few short hours later. That's the unfortunate reality that Andrea...

One of the most hotly contested issues from last week's episode of "The Walking Dead" was, "Why did Merle cut his hand off?" People argued over it intensely. I spent an hour in a bar on Friday night having a drunken debate with a friend about it. Five minutes into this week's this week's episode, they put the debate to rest:
The saw simply wasn't sharp enough to cut through the cuffs.
I love this show.
Moving on.
This week's episode, "Vatos," was sneaky, and the theme seemed to revolve around misconceptions by both the cast and the viewers. As usual, it picked up immediately after the prior episode, with Rick, Glenn, Daryl and T-Dog (seriously, we need to lose that name in a hurry) on a rooftop in downtown Atlanta, trying to figure out what happened to the now-handless Merle while working out a plan to grab Rick's bag...

In an instant, zombies can sneak up and wreak havoc. Just as quickly as things went south when the zombies arrived, so did the end of episode four of The Walking Dead, “Vatos.” As Rick (Andrew Lincoln), Glenn (Steve Yeun), T-Dog (Robert ‘IronE’ Singleton), and Daryl’s (Norman Reedus) search for Merle (Michael Rooker) lead them into hot water with a Hispanic gang in downtown Atlanta, the campers waited for their return–perhaps a little too long. The extreme heat pushed Jim (Andrew Rothenberg) away from the rest of the campers to dig a ridiculous amount of graves. What he really wanted was to just be alone, afraid of the power Shane (Jon Bernthal) had exercised on Ed’s (Adam Minarovich) face last week in “Tell it to the Frogs,” and still guilt-ridden over his escape occurred while his family was being eaten alive. That earned Jim an adult time out,...

Season One, Episode Four: Vatos
Directed by
Written by Robert Kirkman
The quality continues with part four of a meagre six in this initial season that seems almost like a ‘taster’ for this burgeoning series.
Those who haven’t found that the previous episode satisfied their penchant for zombie action or desire to revel in some trademark Nicotero gore may need to tune out, as this week the series bravely stands firm and confident in its mission to evoke the same ebb and flow context narrative as the graphic novels. The majority of this chapter is spent with people, well, talking. But that’s just as it should be as any fan of the books will attest. In fact the major criticism easy to level at the TV adaptation is that the books oddly spend far more time developing the characters and flexing out the inner workings...

Have you recovered from "The Walking Dead" yet?
Although we had our suspicions, we admit that Sunday's (Nov. 21) episode "Vatos" was still rather traumatic.
Spoilers! Catch up before reading further.
Let's just say that even with all the foreshadowing -- the quality time between the sisters, the birthday significance, Jim's digging -- the impact of that horrifying attack on the camp was not lessened one bit.
This is what's so brilliant about having a zombie TV series (based on the comic series). In getting to know the characters more slowly over time, you feel their loss so much more keenly. Can you imagine having only one family member in the world and seeing that happen?
Jim (Andrew Rothenberg): "I remember my dream now. Why I dug the holes"
Was Jim's digging and his dream merely coincidence or something more? We're not sure how we'd feel if his character were clairvoyant.

We don't see Merle (Michael Rooker) next week, but his relic on the roof comes in handy (sorry) when the crew is jumped by another gang of survivors. The handcuffs come out again to stop Jim (Andrew Rothenberg) and his shovel from digging up the entire camp in some kind of psychotic break, but Shane (Jon Bernthal) frees him (with both hands intact!) when Jim comes to his senses. You should know by now not to become too attached to limbs and characters on The Walking Dead,...
