is a confection of a show. That’s likely why it avoids any mention of the pandemic during its easy, breezy and very beautiful second season. However, even Emily in Paris couldn’t avoid one of the biggest trends of the lockdown era: Peloton, the at-home exercise bike so ubiquitous it inspired an unforgettable Saturday Night Live sketch. In Season 2’s seventh episode, “The Cook, the Thief, Her Ghost, and His Lover,” the Savoir team is tasked with marketing Pelotech (get it?), a “heart-pumping cardio experience that connects riders to a worldwide fitness community,” as its representative Pete (Lee Aaron Rosen) preaches to Emily Cooper () and her dismayed French colleagues.

As we are now about halfway through the Broadway season, and there are currently 12 productions of plays set to open this spring. Could we be seeing any of them contend at this year’s Tony Awards? Below, we recap the plot of each play as well as the awards history of its author, cast, creative types, the opening, and (where applicable) closing dates.
“My Name is Lucy Barton” (opens January 15; closes February 29)
In this stage adaptation of Elizabeth Strout’s 2016 novel of the same name, the story follows the title character, who, unsteady after an operation, awakens to find her mother sitting at the foot of her bed. She hasn’t seen her in years, and her visit brings Lucy back to her desperate rural childhood and her escape to New York. As she begins to find herself as a writer, she is still gripped by the urgent complexities of family life.

It's a world shared with "Warehouse 13" and "Eureka," but don't expect super-tech or steampunk artifacts. Instead, there exist people with extraordinary abilities that no one calls mutants. The premiere scientist studying these people, Dr. Lee Rosen (David Strathairn), calls them "Alphas." Alphas Review, Season 2, Episode 1, “Wake Up Call”
Written by Robert Hewitt Wolfe
Directed by Matt Hastings
Airs Mondays at 10 pm (Et) on SyFy
When Alphas premiered last July, it drew comparisons to Heroes with its characters learning to cope with extraordinary abilities. While it lacked the grand ambitions of the fallen NBC series, it compensated with more heart and an excellent lead performance. Veteran character actor David Strathairn (Limbo, Good Night and Good Luck) brings a surprising weight to Dr. Lee Rosen that enhances the drama. The world-weary guy doesn’t have powers, but the neurologist/psychologist has worked for years to help these “Alphas” handle their skills. His team includes strong man Bill (Malik Yoba), ultimate sharp shooter Cameron (Warren Christie), mental influencer Nina (Laura Mennell), sense-heightener Rachel (Azita Ghanizada), and the autistic but hyperkinetic Gary (Ryan Cartwright). They’re an oddly matched team of heroes but work together...

The "Alphas" team have reunited, and it feels so good. Maybe not so much for C. Thomas Howell, the first of the season's all-star guest lineup.
Howell ("Southland") plays a desperate Alpha named Eli Aquino in "The Quick and the Dead," the second episode of the superheroes thriller's sophomore season. As you can see in the above clip, which is exclusive to Zap2it, Eli threatens Dr. Lee Rosen with a knife (David Strathairn).
Will Lee survive the attack? You'll have to watch and see.

Warehouse 13 and Alphas Open Big for Syfy
Warehouse 13 opened its fourth season on solid grade for Syfy, bringing in 2.1 Million total viewers. Alphas made its sophomore debut count as well, snaring 1.7 Million viewers. Both shows managed to best their previous percentages in the key 18-49 and 25-54 age group demographics. This is not only good news for Syfy channel, it's also good news for Sci-Fi fans. Perhaps these numbers will convince Syfy to put more SciFi in their prime-time slots.
New York – July 24, 2012 – Syfy’s potent one-two punch of hit series Warehouse 13 and Alphas returned to the Powerful Mondays programming block on Monday, July 23, racking up impressive ratings in their respective season premieres.

Alphas Review, Season 2, Episode 1, “Wake Up Call”
Airs Mondays at 10 pm (Et) on SyFy
When Alphas premiered last July, it drew comparisons to Heroes with its characters learning to cope with extraordinary abilities. While it lacked the grand ambitions of the fallen NBC series, it compensated with heart and an excellent lead performance. Veteran character actor David Straitharn (Limbo, Good Night and Good Luck) brings a surprising weight to Dr. Lee Rosen that enhances the drama. The world-weary guy doesn’t have super powers, but the neurologist/psychologist works to help these “Alphas” handle their skills. His team includes strong man Bill (Malik Yoba), ultimate sharp shooter Cameron (Warren Christie), mental influencer Nina (Laura Mennell), sense-heightener Rachel (Azita Ghanizada), and the autistic but hyperkinetic Gary (Ryan Cartwright). They’re an oddly matched team of heroes, but they work together to battle the forces of destruction.

Last season on Alphas, Dr. Lee Rosen (David Strathairn), a distinguished neurologist and psychologist, revealed one of the biggest secrets to mankind and because of that, he had been held in prison. Wondering what that secret is? Apparently, people with supernatural abilities known as Alphas exist and Dr. Rosen happen to be responsible for creating a secret team of Alphas whose task is to investigate criminal cases involving other suspected Alphas.
What will happen now that the world has learned about the existence of Alphas? How will the bad Alphas react? Will there be a world-wide paranoia outbreak in Alphas season 2?
Which Alphas Character are You?...

The new seasons of two of Syfy’s biggest hits are set to launch. Warehouse 13 is the most successful series in the channel’s history, while the ratings for Alphas aren’t far behind. The former is kicking off its fourth season while this is season two of the latter.
The shows feature many surface level similarities. In each, a wise, kind middle-aged man leads a team of much younger individuals. The teams are secretive outfits tasked with battling highly dangerous foes and cleaning up messes the government would prefer the public never knows about. Team members are misfits and outcasts with social skills in need of improvement.
Alphas was co-created by X-Men: The Last Stand and The Incredible Hulk writer Zak Penn. For the uninitiated, it stars the excellent David Strathairn as Dr. Lee Rosen, a neurologist and psychiatrist in charge of a small group of people possessing superhuman mental and physical abilities.

The best new sci-fi show of last year is back, kids. The Syfy Channel’s “Alphas” makes its Season 2 premiere next week with the episode “Wake up Call”, which I suppose is appropriate given the revelations at the end of last season. Until then, take a look at a sneak peek clip at the premiere episode and a swanky new poster. The new season picks up eight months after last year’s stunning season finale with the stage set for an explosive turn of events at the Binghamton facility (the Guantanamo of the Alpha world) that could have devastating, far-reaching consequences. Dr. Lee Rosen, having exposed the existence of Alphas to the unsuspecting public, finds himself discredited and imprisoned by a government desperate to cover up his stunning revelation. Some of the team have disbanded and without Dr. Rosen’s care and guidance, have regressed to their old, destructive ways.

This is great news. If you watched Syfy‘s Alphas during its inaugural season last summer, you likely enjoyed the treat that was Summer Glau in a terrific part, as an Alpha whose ability was to construct incredibly complex pieces of technology. It was a geeky part, and she played it with absolute style and grace.
Happily, Syfy has announced that she’ll be reprising that part for three episodes in the second season of the show, which premieres on Monday, July 23 at 10/9c. (Don’t worry, Lost Girl fans, your show is not going away, it’s just moving down the block to Fridays.)
Joining the lovely and talented Ms. Glau are a hobbit, a former NCIS director, and a lieutenant with the colonial forces, amongst others. Check out this great lineup:

He still has his helmet from "Rudy," a coin from "Goonies" and the feet from the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Now Sean Astin will be looking for a new souvenir as he is set to make a guest appearance in the new Syfy series "Alphas." Astin headlines a long list of popular actors who will be a part of the special power series this season, playing Roland, an alpha who has an absorptive brain. He can basically assume the memories of anyone close to him, and then replay them like a tape recorder, according to a release from Syfy. The second season picks up eight months following the season finale at the prison facility in Binghamton after Dr. Lee Rosen (David Strathairn) exposed the existence of Alphas to an unsuspecting public. Calling all Alphas fans, we got our first good glimpse into the Season 2 Premiere that will air Monday, July 23 at 10pm Et/Pt. In the trailer, we hear an audio clip of Dr. Lee Rosen (David Strathairn) from last season’s finale as he outed to the world the existence of Alphas and called for support so that none of the Alphas have to live or act out in the name of fear or secrecy.
“I… am calling for light… for transparency…”
Click on the “Light” trailer below and fill screen.
With this public announcement, we feared for the team and questioned whether or not they would still be supported by the government for Season 2. In these two clips, At the least, Gary (Ryan Cartwright) has been separated from the group in some kind of prison or ward and it looks like Bill (Malik Yoba) is going to spring him from it.

The gang’s all back! If you didn’t know the Syfy Channel has a new show called “Alphas” on the air and that it’s one of the better superhero shows to come around in a long while (moderate budget and less-than-slick visuals notwithstanding — hey, it is working with a cable budget, after all), you best recognize. (It would help if Syfy promoted it more, like with reruns and such, but whatever.) “Alphas” is coming back for it second season next month, but until then, check out your first look at the trailer for Season 2. As you’ll recall, at the end of last season the existence of Alphas, that is, people with superpowers, were exposed to the world by Doctor Lee Rosen (the show’s Professor X), played by David Strathairn. The seemingly endless wait for the Syfy summer schedule is finally over! There is good news and bad, and one thing that is both good and bad. Let’s start with that: the Eureka Season Finale. We love Eureka, so every episode is good news; the fact that it’s a series finale, not so much. Mark your calendars – and have plenty of Kleenex in stock – for July 16 at 9/8c. Right after Comic-Con, which is early this year. We’ll see if that means a panel or not.
The good news: Warehouse 13 and Alphas return on July 23. The hmmm news is that Lost Girl will move to Fridays at 10 on July 20. Hey That’S Haven’S Spot. So Where The Heck Is Haven? Admittedly we had a head’s up that Haven would be pushed to fall when we learned that the DVDs for Season 2 weren’t being released until September but Argh.

'Cause and Effect'
[Spoilers]
The episode begins with a voiceover from Dr. Lee Rosen, explaining about the people with extraordinary abilities known as Alphas. “Some Alphas, like the ones I work with, have abilities that would amaze you. But others…the angry, the lost, the afraid, have abilities that, frankly, can be terrifying.”
And, being the second episode, we get to see the opening credits sequence for the first time. It’s upbeat but a little generic, though the test of any opening credits sequence is, inherently, how well it holds up over multiple viewings.
Instead of diving straight into the action, the episode proper begins in suitably Whedonesque fashion by letting the audience spend some time with the characters, with the team conversing as they move into their new offices. The banter between the main characters in these opening scenes helps to establish a pleasingly Whedonesque found family dynamic, which...

Alphas, from Michael Karnow and comic book movie veteran Zak Penn (X-Men 2, Elektra, The Incredible Hulk), is a relatively realistic show about people with superpowers, though given this description, it’s less gritty (at least initially) than you might expect. It’s not like Jason Bourne with superpowers (or Battlestar Galactica, despite the presence of Callum Keith Rennie). And the realism doesn’t stop the show from having some cool special effects.
It’s broadly similar to Warehouse 13 (another SyFy show also scored by Edward Rogers) in tone and visual style, though Alphas’ pilot is better. Since Warehouse 13 was relatively slow to start, but got really good in the second half of Season 1, then hopefully Alphas could be even better, if it shows the same level of improvement. The characters aren’t as good as in Warehouse 13, though it’s early days yet, though most of them are quite good,...

Throughout its vastly underrated first season, Alphas has continuously blurred the line between who's right and who's wrong. At the center of this dilemma has been the show's version of Professor X, Dr. Lee Rosen (David Strathairn).a well-meaning scientist who's trying to decipher the secrets of Alphas and the true intentions of all parties involved with them. So it was only fitting that Rosen was the centerpiece of the season finale "Original Sin," an episode that brilliantly set the stage for Season 2 and that stands to change the series in a huge way.
