The name is Romero. George C. Romero. And in case you didn’t guess, George C. Romero is the son of the late, legendary George A. Romero, the pioneering filmmaker whose 1968 horror classic Night of the Living Dead changed the face of horror cinema forever. George A. Romero and his small independent film collective created the modern zombie mythology, which has occupied a vast swath of the horror genre from George A.’s own later masterpieces like Dawn of the Dead all the way to modern weekly nightmares in The Walking Dead.
Meanwhile George Cameron Romero — the elder George’s son from his first marriage — went into filmmaking himself out of college, then veered into advertising, commercials, and online brand marketing with his own agency, where he created more than 100 campaigns and commercials, launched a film production facility in his native Western Pennsylvania, and directed a handful of features. Now George C.

As you may recall, the late George A. Romero’s son George Cameron Romero had been working on a prequel (of sorts) to Night of the Living Dead titled Rise of the Living Dead, described as a “prelude to Night” and a “love letter” to his father. This Sunday, I will be hosting a conversation with George Cameron Romero at the Salem Horror Festival, followed by a screening of Day of the Dead. If you live anywhere near the Salem area, I encourage you to come out, as this festival has just started and has a lot of great events planned in one of the greatest cities to visit in October. For those unable to make it out, I recently caught up with George to talk about his filmmaking career, get an update on his "Living Dead" prequel, and I learned about a Vr project he has in the works as well:
Was filmmaking something that immediately interested you growing up? Or did you gain more of an appreciation after spending time with your father on-set?

Though horror icon George A. Romero sadly died last year, his children are ensuring that his iconic ‘Of the Dead’ franchise will keep shambling on.
We already know that George Cameron Romero is working on Rise of the Living Dead, a prequel to Night of the Living Dead set in the mid-1960s, and now his daughter, Tina Romero, is set to release her take on the franchise: Queens of the Dead, which she described in a chat with The Saunder Blog as “a fusion of two huge parts of my world: zombies and Gay nightlife.”
Hmm. That sounds a bit weird, but I’m listening. Tell me more Tina…
“It’s a tribute to my father as well as my entrée into the genre he grandfathered,” she said. “I can’t say too much yet, but what I can tell you is that this film will have all the hallmarks of a George A.

And, one cast member has been attached, Dimitri Thivaios. As well, a concept poster is available here, with story details below. The film is set in 1962. In the '60s, Dr. Ryan Cartwright is searching for a way to survive a potential nuclear war. As events heat up during the Cuban Missile Crisis, Cartwright may have found an even deadlier threat to humanity. Now, a plague has been released on mankind, bringing about the end of days. Cameron Romero has stated that the film will be a love letter to his father. As horror fans know, George A. Romero has died this year.

Back in 2014 the late George Romero's son, Cameron Romero, launched a crowdfunding campaign to develop a Night of the Living Dead prequel project that he simply called Origins at the time. Well, Cameron is finally moving forward with the film project and he made the big announcement on his Facebook page, where he revealed the teaser poster above and the real title of the film, Rise of the Living Dead.
"Many of you know that I have been working to tell a story for many years... Most successful horror movies get sequels. One notable exception is Edgar Wright’s “Shaun of the Dead,” which remains a one-off 13 years after its release — not that Simon Pegg hasn’t thought about revisiting it. The actor and writer tells Entertainment Weekly that he “jokingly wrote a treatment for ‘From Dusk Till Shaun,’ which was a sequel to ‘Shaun of the Dead.’”

It wasn’t like a serious pitch,” Pegg continues. “Edgar thought it would be funny to do the film again, but with vampires. But it was all just pub talk.” Something to chat about at the Winchester, perhaps?...

Fans of the director have been petitioning and campaigning for Romero to get the accolade for quite some time. Last year at the Texas Frightmare Weekend, his admirers even threw a fundraising event in honor of the 76-year-old helmer.

George C Romero, son of Night of the Living Dead director George A Romero, has applied his horror expertise to a new survival horror game.
Romero collaborated with independent video game publisher Free Reign Entertainment to create Aftermath, the only free-to-win massively multiplayer online (MMO) survival horror game, which has just entered open beta.
The game sees players battle zombies against other survivalists as they use their survival skills to stay alive, while the 'Free to Win' gameplay ensures that whatever happens to a player depends solely on their skills.
"I've long been a fan of survival horror games and when I had the opportunity to collaborate on Aftermath, I jumped at the chance to bring my experience working on horror films into a new medium," Romero said in a statement.

The son of director George Romero, Cameron Romero, is moving forward with his Night of the Living Dead origin film, which is apparently simply being called Origins.
The original Night of the Living Dead movie was released back in 1968, and the story follows seven people trapped in a rural farmhouse attacked by zombies. It was made on a budget of $140,000 and made over $30 million world wide. It’s a cult classic, and it spawned the zombie film genre.
The story for the origin film was developed by Cameron Romero, who is also set to direct from a screenplay he wrote with Darrin Reed and Bryce C. Campbell.
The project is set at the height of the Cold War, when one scientist tried to give the world its best hope for survival and instead unleashed its worst nightmare.

Yes, we all love zombies. We all know that they are a big business and we also know that much of the blame for the current form of zombies rests on the shoulders of horror master George Romero and his brilliant, low-budget 1968 flick Night of the Living Dead. Now, in the grand cinematic tradition of beating even dead things to death with a stick, there is going to be a Night of the Living Dead prequel called Origins and it’s going to start shooting in 2015.
Origins originates in the mind of Cameron Romero, the son of George Romero, who will be directing the feature. It focuses on events prior to those in Night of the Living Dead, as a scientist searches for a pathway to sustain human life in the event of a worldwide catastrophe. Things go terribly wrong (of course), and I guess that this guy winds up creating zombies.

In George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead, they watched the TV intently, wanting to know why the dead were walking just outside their boarded-up windows. Now, more than 45 years later, George’s son Cameron looks to explore the definitive answer to that question in Origins. A partially crowdfunded prequel to Night of the Living Dead, Origins now has another backer in Radar Pictures.
Variety reports that Radar Pictures will produce Cameron Romero’s Origins with production slated to begin this year. We know what happened after the events depicted in George Romero's classic 1968 zombie movie, Night of the Living Dead, thanks to the director's string of sequels, including 1978's Dawn of the Dead and 1985's Day of the Dead. But what happened before Barbra and Johnny made that doomed cemetery visit? It is a question Romero's son, Cameron, hopes to answer in a Night of the Living Dead prequel called Origins, an Indiegogo campaign for which was launched today. The younger Romero is hoping to raise $150,000 for a film which, according to the official synopsis, will detail how a brilliant...

Welcome to The Last Horror Blog, a biweekly column on all things horror. More zombies on TV with a Resident Evil series in the works – With AMC’s The Walking Dead already a huge hit, it’s only a matter of time before we see more zombie stories on the small screen. Constantin Films looks ready to add to the undead apocalypse with newly announced plans to develop a series based on film and video game franchise Resident Evil. It's looking like we'll get a TV show centered on Capcom’s popular game series following the debut of the sixth film in the franchise – which probably won’t reach screens until 2016. Will zombies still be all the rage by then? Seems like a safe bet. Cameron Romero launches Night of the Living...

The father of the modern zombie, George A. Romero, first introduced us to the shufflesome ways of the undead way back in 1968 with his lo-fi classic, Night Of The Living Dead. Shot on a measly budget, the original movie followed two siblings who seek refuge in a nearby farmhouse as a zombie invasion takes hold. It’s a genre staple that has gone on to influence countless filmmakers, including Romero’s own son, G. Cameron Romero, who is now pledging to craft a prequel titled Origins.
What’s the name of the game then? Well, seems the younger Romero is intent on paying homage to his dad’s original movie, while also offering a new slant on the zombie trope:
“I want to take back the Zombie Genre in the name of the Legacy that my father created almost 50 years ago,” says Romero. “I want to tell the Origin story of the modern zombie,...

Way back in 1968, filmmaker George A. Romero unleashed a creation that would become a pop culture staple of the horror genre: zombies. Night of the Living Dead was the first film to introduce the concept of dead rising from the graves as mindless, brain-hungry monsters, chasing the living. Since the, Romero hasn't really been able to duplicate the iconic success he achieved decades ago, though he's tried to continue his love of horror with sequels as recent as a few years ago like Diary of the Dead and Survival of the Dead. Now his son is trying to follow in his footsteps with a prequel simply called Origins, but he needs help. Romero's son Cameron Romero is trying to crowdfund the film on Indiegogo, and here's the pitch: The film, which is being backed by the horror fanatics at Bloody Disgusting, is described like this: Origins takes place in the...

Huddled in front of the TV one night in the late ’60’s, a group of survivors listened to different theories as to why the dead were walking around outside with an appetite for human flesh. Such was the chilling plot of George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead and now, 46 years later, his son Cameron wants to show how the zombie uprising began with Origins, a crowdfunded prequel to the horror classic.

Following in his father George's footsteps, director Cameron Romero is a filmmaker with something to say; and in the new trailer for his latest film, Radical, that he sent exclusively our way, his message is loud and frighteningly clear.
Radical centers on the story of three members of the American press being held captive by a calculating terrorist who taunts the Us government with his arrogance and technological savvy.
The isolation piece stars Tom Sizemore (Saving Private Ryan, Heat), Ford Austin (Dahmer vs. Gacy, The Auctioneers), Josh Carmichael, Shahe Assilian and Bj Hendricks (The Great Buck Howard, Staunton Hill) and marks a reunion for many cast members who have worked with Romero in the past.
"This is the real horror that people go through every day around the world, and the media always seem to cover it from a higher place or a conceptual level," Romero told us. "I think...

The year is 1969 (supposedly). A group of friends traveling to a rally in Washington, D.C. hitch a ride with a nice enough fellow they meet up with at a run down gas station. However, a few miles along their journey, the fellow's car breaks down, causing the group to have to hike through the hills in search of shelter and help. They happen upon an isolated farmhouse, which at first seems abandoned. They take it upon themselves to camp out in the barn for the night, only to be greeted by the Stauton family in the morning. This odd bunch consists of the the mother, grandmother, and a mentally challenged adult boy. At first, the family is nice (except the boy, who takes a hammer to one of the traveler's face for saying Hi to him...

After a few films, many feel as if Cameron Romero won’t step out of his father’s large horror shadow. Yes, his father is George A. Romero, but that’s unfair to Cameron. His latest has a plot synopsis and an official one-sheet. This could be an interesting film. Radical is the story of three members of the American press being held captive by a calculating terrorist who taunts the Us government with his arrogance and technological savvy.
The film stars Tom Sizemore and showcases a different take on horror than Romero’s previous film in Staunton Hill, as he tells Dread Central. “This is the real horror that people go through every day around the world, and the media always seem to cover it from a higher place or a conceptual level. I think it’s because it seems unbearable to think about individuals who go through horrible...

We were pretty impressed with Cameron (son of George A.) Romero's initial film, Staunton Hill, and since that flick's release we've been waiting to see what else the director has up his sleeve. Well, the cat's now out of the proverbial bag!
According to Cameron Romero on Twitter, filming has just wrapped on his next project, Radical, which tells the tale of three American journalists who are captured and held captive by an attention-starved lunatic who's looking for fame for the many atrocities he's committed while in the Middle East.
Tom Sizemore, Josh Carmichael, Shahe Assillian, Ford Austin and Bj Hendricks star. Though pretty bare bones right now, keep your eye on the official Radical website, which has the film pegged for a March 2011 release.
