It’s hard to believe that of All the action franchises that have come and gone over the years that the Sniper series would still be going strong some thirty, yes Thirty, years after the debut of the original film. Since that debut we’ve had ten films – this latest one, Sniper: G.R.I.T. included – all of which have adapted with the times yet have still managed to find a consistency that has kept audiences coming back time and again. It also helps that, since 2011’s fourth film Sniper: Reloaded, we’ve had a consistent lead in actor Chad Michael Collins, playing Brandon Beckett the son of Tom Berenger’s original lead Gunnery Sergeant Tom Beckett.

New Amsterdam‘s Tyler Labine is currently in the hospital recovering after suffering from a “potentially fatal blood clot.”
He announced his hospitalization on social media after believing he had a simple stomachache. He posted a video that featured several clips of him in an ambulance and at the hospital.
He updated fans saying, “Sometimes it’s a Tuesday and you’re walking around with a tummy ache so you try to sleep it off. Then sometimes you wake up on a Weds with a stomach ache so bad you decide to go to the ER at your local hospital. And then sometimes your tummy ache turns out to be a potentially fatal blood clot in your intestines and liver and you have to spend the next 3 days in the hospital trying not to die. Just sometimes.”
He reassured fans that he is expected to be okay and is currently in recovery.

Spoiler Alert: This post contains details about the Riverdale Season 5 finale, “Riverdale: Rip.”
Riverdale came into a chapter of hope and reincorporation, but not without a quite literal bang.
Following the high emotions of last week’s “Next To Normal,” Betty (Lili Reinhart) and the rest of the gang look forward to new beginnings. Betty takes up a new position as FBI Agent Betty Cooper at the town’s newly reopened headquarters, a now-single Veronica (Camila Mendes) plans a return to the Big Apple; Jughead (Cole Sprouse), now somewhat official with Tabitha (Erinn Westbrook), becomes the new advisor for the Blue and Gold school paper, and Archie’s (K.J. Apa) is reopening Andrews Construction. But before getting too settled into their new chapters, the Riverdale crew find themselves back in danger as a Ghoulie sets Pop’s ablaze – ordered by none other but Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos). Fortunately, Archie and...

Riverdale Season 4 is here!
This is great news for fans of quirky, unpredictable, and always entertaining TV. Perhaps more so than any other show on TV, Riverdale is very comfortable in its own skin; season three was a weird and wonderful experience, with episodes like “The Midnight Club” flashback installment and the noir experiment pushing the creative parameters of the show… and, wonderfully, sticking the landing each time.

Riverdale Season 4 Episode 10
"They don't play to win, they play to hurt"
And that's been Stonewall Prep's game since their introduction on Riverdale. First they judged and abused Jughead because he wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Then they tormened him by burying him alive. Plus, the instructors there, especially Mr. Dupont, toy with Jug's emotions by flip-flopping their behavior towards him. It's a pretty toxic learning environment, one that makes South Side High look like the school from Fame.
But as we learn in this latest episode, Stonewall Prep's entire M.O. is to try to destroy and break anyone who isn't their own -- be it on the football field or in real life. Is there any doubt that Brett was the ringleader of the attack on Monroe?...

The Pure TV show has taken an interesting journey to Wgn America (Wgna). The first season of the TV series debut on CBC, and later on Canada's Super Channel, before streaming on Hulu in the United States. Initially, it was considered cancelled by those outlets, but then Wgna and Super Channel partnered with CBC and Hulu to produce this second season. Now that Wgna is debuting season two of Pure, how will it perform in the Nielsen ratings? Is there enough story (and ad revenue) to continue beyond this installment? Will Pure be cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned.

Being a single parent is difficult enough for any woman.
But when Pure Season 2 opens at 10 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, Anna Funk faces her own special challenges.
Throughout Pure Season 1, Anna and her husband, Mennonite Pastor Noah Funk (played by Ryan Robbins), sought to bring down a Mexican drug-smuggling ring which was plaguing their Ontario community by going undercover.
Noah was the heart of that operation, but Anna was the brains.
Things didn't go as planned. Noah's drug-addict brother Abel was shot and left to die in the Mexican desert.
To save his foster son Ezekiel, Noah shot and killed Eli Voss, the cartel boss, on Pure Season 1 Episode 6. Then, feeling that he had violated the church's tenets, he left the community and his family.
Anna was excommunicated by the church. Forced to sell their farm, Anna and her children, Tina and Isaak, move to town and they make a meager living by cleaning houses.

Pure Season 2, debuting May 28 on Wgn America, can best be summed up by The Who lyric "Come meet the new boss same as the old boss."
Pure Season 1, which aired earlier this year, told the gritty tale of Mennonite Pastor Noah Funk, who went undercover with the goal of exposing the Mennonite mob which was running drugs from Mexico to Canada.
Once she found out what her naive husband was attempting, Noah's steely wife Anna also got involved in his well-intentioned effort to bring down mob boss Eli Voss.
They were aided in the investigation by disgraced local cop Bronco Novak, who dated Anna and picked on Noah while all three attended the local high school. The dynamic among the trio was one of the first-season highlights.

We don't have to wonder whether the Pure TV show will be cancelled or renewed for season two on Wgn America. Originally a CBC and Hulu TV series, Wgna and Super Channel partnered with those networks to produce a second season of Pure that would originate on their stations. In the meantime, Wgna is running the first season of Pure, before debuting season two later this year. Will the American audience tune in, or have most interested viewers already streamed it on Hulu? The ratings will tell the tale, so stay tuned.

You don't often see a metaphysical cliffhanger.
But that's exactly what we got on Pure Season 1 Episode 6.
Nope, this wasn't your traditional cliffhanger by any means.
The crime the season was built around was solved. The crime boss was dead. No one was left in peril.
Unless you count Noah's mortal soul.
First off, it got confirmed early on that Abel was dead. It was heartbreaking to watch Ezekiel continue to carry the wooden animal which Abel had carved for him throughout the harrowing time in Eli's compound.
Related: Pure Season 1 Episode 5 Review: Communion
Abel's death seemed inevitable, but it's a shame that Abel had to be the sacrificial lamb ensnared in Noah and Bronco's "plan." He had made his way back to being an upstanding citizen, one worthy of being Ezekiel's surrogate father.
Rip Abel.
The only reason that Eli kept Noah alive that long, besides his preaching to Eli's excommunicated workers,...

As a young actor, A.J. Buckley aspired to be John McClane.
The “Die Hard” franchise hasn't come calling yet for the Irish-born Canadian actor. But Buckley, who first made his mark with American viewers as lab geek Adam on CSI: New York, is currently on display as a couple of wise-ass action heroes, Bronco Novak on Pure and Sonny Quinn on Seal Team.
Pure Season 1 wraps up Wednesday night on Wgn America. Pure Second 2 will air later this year.
Bronco, Buckley's character on Pure, is still waiting for his second act. A star quarterback at the small local high school, cop Bronco is divorced and on probation at work.

It was an obvious development.
That didn't make Eli Voss's shooting of Abel any less impactful on Pure Season 1 Episode 5.
I wrote shooting rather than killing because Abel's status wasn't totally clear at episode's end. Granted, he got shot in the chest in the wilds of Mexico, so I'm not holding my breath. But maybe he gets found in time to survive.
Probably not though. If anyone was going to be removed from the Funk family, it was recovering addict Abel.
Pure is about redemption, whether for an individual or a community.
Abel has probably gone the furthest down the road toward redemption. Noah nearly sent Abel away on Pure Season 1 Episode 1 when he caught him rifling through a truck looking for drugs.
Pure Season 1 Episode 4 Review: Funeral
By his likely end, Abel was an integral part of Noah's effort to bring down Eli, despite slipping back into drugs a time or two.

If God is going to come through for Pastor Noah and his community of pious Mennonites, he'd better get to it.
Because Noah was looking at even less help after Pure Season 1 Episode 4.
The Antioch Police Department was no longer an ally since Bronco got fired from there.
Not that the Apd was ever a big part of Bronco's investigation of the Mennonite mob. After Gerry Epp's phone disappeared from evidence, the probe, which had the stink of Bronco on it, began to fall apart, legally speaking.
For a while, Bronco's partner Jay even backed him up on the case, but he saw what way the wind was blowing and turned on him.

This is a Western.
That thought occurred to me, granted belatedly, during Pure Season 1 Episode 3.
Well, that certainly explains all those establishing vista shots of Southern Ontario.
Think about it: A mild, good-hearted farmer gets thrust into a position of authority to defend his community against a band of ruthless outlaws.
The Mennonites' simple way of life would have fit in in the Old West.
Related: Pure Season 1 Episode 2 Review: The Singing
If still in doubt, what should cinch it was that shot of Eli in all-black garb bookended by the two brightly-dressed twins.
If he's not a stereotypical Western villain, who is?
Of course, this analogy goes off the rails when Pure moves to the world of the Auslanders, especially Bronco.
Then again, maybe not Bronco. After all, weren't disgraced lawmen trying to redeem themselves a recurring theme in classic Westerns?

Noah Funk means well.
But that wasn't enough to help him keep all the balls in the air on Pure Season 1 Episode 2.
Noah's grand plan was to destroy Eli Voss's Mennonite mob from the inside. If that's the case, why was he railing against Eli from his pulpit? He can't be inside and in opposition to the mob at the same time. That's just going to confuse everybody.
That's not to say Noah did poorly in his sermon debut. He spoke from the heart and tackled a sore spot within the community.
It would have carried more weight if he hadn't run off to meet the drug plane, but no one knew what he was up to. He just seemed quirky cutting out in the middle of the service.
Plus Noah is not at all subtle. He's likely to be taking notes on the operation in front of Joey or...

Pure appears to be the story of a well-meaning man in over his head.
Newly chosen pastor Noah Funk has his heart in the right place on Pure Season 1 Episode 1.
The trouble is that he depended on faith to clear up his Mennonite community's ugly little secret.
After all, that's what the Bible preaches -- that God will help the helpless.
But it was revealed that the Mennonite Mob has been smuggling drugs from Mexico for decades.
Related: Pure's Ryan Robbins Q & A
So Noah decided to take things into his own hands to rescue his people from this insidious stain on their souls.
Noah got egged on by Peter Wiebe after he found a basket of cocaine doses in the closet of his son Abram, who was killed by drugs.
Since Peter's farm was failing, his wife and son were working for mob lieutenant Gerry Epps to help make ends meet.

Facebook Watch’s latest bid to keep your attention for longer than it takes for a puppy to climb stairs is “Sacred Lies,” a dark and blunt adaptation of Stephanie Oakes’ Ya novel, which in turn is based on a Grimm fairy tale. But just in case “fairy tale” makes it seem like a romp, “Sacred Lies” — created by “True Blood’s” Raelle Tucker and produced by Blumhouse TV — immediately reminds its audience that Grimm fairy tales are, well, grim.
The first episode opens with our heroine — or is she? — Minnow Bly (Elena Kampouris) standing above a bruised body, blinking at surrounding cops, and raising her hands in the air, only to reveal that she has no hands at all.
From there, “Sacred Lies” essentially splits into two shows. One is a murder mystery that delves into Minnow’s childhood, which she spent in a cult run by “The Prophet...

Former How I Met Your Mother star Alyson Hannigan is set for a recurring role opposite Ryan Robbins and Alex Paxton-Beesley on the second season of Wgn America’s Mennonite crime drama Pure.
Inspired by true events, the series goes deep inside a closed, secretive subculture through the eyes of Noah Funk (Robbins), a conflicted, good-hearted man trying to protect his family and preserve his faith. Noah is a newly elected Mennonite pastor, who is determined to rid his community of the scourge of drugs and its ties to a trans-border smuggling alliance with ruthless Mexican cocaine cartels. Just when he thinks he’s won, Noah and his wife Anna (Paxton-Beesley) are thrust headlong into a desperate world of violence, greed and betrayal.
Hannigan will play Esther Dunkel, a lapsed Mennonite who is nobody’s fool and has been helping her lawyer-boyfriend funnel a fortune in cartel cash through a local bank.

Wgn America announced today that the Mennonite crime drama Pure is getting a second season ahead of its Season 1 debut in early 2019. The series stars Ryan Robbins (Arrow, The Killing) and Alex Paxton-Beesley (The Strain).
The acquisition of Pure seems to go in line with the network’s new model of relying on imported dramas after it exited the high-end original drama arena.
Just when he thinks he’s won, Noah and his wife Anna (Paxton-Beesly) are thrust headlong into a desperate world of violence,...

But in Monday’s episode, the show went one further and drew a parallel between him and a person who has a physical disability. A quick aside that “disability” is a loaded word that implies that someone is not able, and therefore that language can be seen as pejorative or unfair. It is, however, the phrasing that is used in the episode by a character who uses a wheelchair to describe himself and Shaun.
