Currently has quit filmmaking as off 2017 and has no intention of making comeback.
In 2011 returned back to India and wanted to work on a film with big stars which did not work out.
Was threatened by the Mumbai underworld gangs after his success in
Mohra and Gupt. He was told to leave the film industry but he is still
pursuing his career.
Born to film distributor, Gulshan Rai, in 1955. His mother passed away
at almost the same time as his mother-in-law and father-in-law. His dad
suffered a stroke after an attempt was made on his life by underground
elements in Bombay.
After Gupt, Rajiv Rai was directing a English film abroad. He casted Sunil Shetty in one of the key roles. The rest of the cast were British actors. After shooting for a month he shelved the film.
