Pauline Quirke Reluctantly Agrees to Investigate the Theft of Money From Her Brother on Maisie Raine
Sometimes the best way to solve a serious criminal case is to address the situation with a down-to-earth approach. That carefree attitude often worked for the title character of the British television series, ‘Maisie Raine.’ The eponymous protagonist of the crime drama, which originally aired on BBC One in the late 1990s, was played by […]

It's the end of the world as we know it. Sky has cancelled the You, Me and the Apocalypse TV series after its first season. The British-American sitcom airs on NBC, stateside.
Season one ends after the meteor hits earth. The survivors, played by stars including Mathew Baynton, Pauline Quirke, Diana Rigg, and Joel Fry, are ensconced in an underground bunker. Baynton was ready to tell the post-apocalyptic story, but Sky is letting the first and only season stand on its own.

Though it seems like You, Me and the Apocalypse is a mini-series, NBC seems to have gone out of their way to call it a regular series. Could there be a second season of this UK-produced TV show? How will it do in the ratings? Could it be cancelled by the peacock network and pulled before all of the 10 episodes have aired? Stay tuned.

Rob Lowe and Pauline Quirke, together at last! Sky One's You, Me And The Apocalypse has that and plenty more to recommend it…
The original title of Sky/NBC’s new comedy drama was sacrificed to the gods of transatlantic appeal. Apparently Us audiences aren’t familiar enough with English boroughs just off the M4 for Apocalypse Slough to work (Apocalypse Slu-ff? Slo-oo?), hence the change to something more generic.
Thankfully, that seems to have been the only thing flattened in translation, because title aside, You, Me And The Apocalypse is a blast. Pun intended.
Mat Baynton (Horrible Histories, The Wrong Mans) is likeable as ever in the role of Slough bank manager Jamie Winton, the routine-loving straight man to his feckless, hedonistic housemate, Dave (Joel Fry). Yes, it’s a bit in debt to Peep Show, but these two soon have much more to worry about than Mark and Jez ever did.

Jenna Fischer won a legion of fans for playing shy receptionist Pam Beesly in the Us Office for nine seasons. She will next be seen in another ensemble comedy, except this time it's mostly set in Slough, the home of the original version of the show that launched her career.
Sky 1's You, Me and the Apocalypse features a variety of seemingly unconnected characters as the world literally crumbles around them. Boasting one of the most eclectic casts in years, the UK-us show also stars Rob Lowe, Mathew Baynton, Megan Mullally and Pauline Quirke.
Fischer plays a mum who is sent to prison after taking the heat for her son's naughty computer hacking hobbies, and she has promised viewers that it will have a blockbuster feel to rival some of Hollywood's finest.
"I feel like I'm in a Tom Cruise movie or something," she told Digital Spy on the set of the show.

He's the smoothest boss around with the finest pair of driving gloves, but could we see Johnson's demise in Peep Show's final series?
Paterson Joseph has revealed that he has wanted his slick character to kill himself in the past, and writers Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong may still have a shock up their sleeves.
"We always talked about a Johnson suicide," he told Digital Spy. "And I want him to kill himself in the bath with a picture of Mark. That's how I'd like to end him.
"They've always talked about him dying but they didn't quite know how and we started talking about the suicide thing. They'll go with something much cleverer than that!"
Joseph will return as Johnson in the upcoming final series of the Channel 4 comedy alongside fellow stars David Mitchell and Robert Webb, with the cast tweeting several emotional photos from the final days on set.

James Corden and Mathew Baynton may have put an end to The Wrong Mans, but that might not be the last time they work together.
Baynton has revealed to Digital Spy and others that the pair have already written a movie together, but it has been put on the back burner while Corden remains busy in America as host of The Late Late Show.

"I like the fact that it's very, very funny, but also because of the subject matter it's quite dark in places," she said. "But the combination of both together really works.

James Corden and Mathew Baynton's comedy crime capers in The Wrong Mans look to be over for good.
The BBC comedy drama has officially come to an end after two series, mainly due to Corden's busy schedule after taking over from Craig Ferguson as host of The Late Late Show.
Co-star and writer Baynton told Radio Times: "Even if we wanted to do more Wrong Mans, there wouldn't be an opportunity to.
"So I kind of see that as a good thing in a way because it means we can't be tempted into going back to it and possibly diluting it.
"As a concept it had two series and probably not much more as it starts to wear thin as a premise. Because we were proud of what we did, so we will both be moving on to other things."
Baynton also added that he isn't surprised about his friend's success in the Us,...

Birds of a Feather has been renewed for a new series by ITV.
The long-running sitcom will begin shooting its 12th run later this year, after its most recent series concluded last month.
Pauline Quirke, Linda Robson and Lesley Joseph will all return as Sharon Theodopolopodous, Tracey Stubbs and Dorien Green, respectively.
ITV's Comedy Commissioner Saskia Schuster said: "Birds of a Feather has a large and loyal audience and we're really pleased to be bringing it back, a new series starts shooting later this year."
Original writers Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran said: "We're thrilled that a nation is still in love with Sharon, Tracey and Dorien and delighted that ITV loves them too and have asked us to write what will be the 12th series of Birds of a Feather. We can promise more feisty fun with the Essex girls."
ITV has yet to confirm when the series will return.

On its second go-around, Broadchurch has split viewers and critics - some were left underwhelmed by the new series of Chris Chibnall's coastal crime thriller, while others were still hooked every Monday night.
So why the divide? I'm of the opinion that Broadchurch 2 was neither an outright success or a complete misfire. Some elements (both old and new) worked, while others fell flat.
Here's my take on this series' pros and cons - join the conversation and share your own thoughts in the comments section.
What worked...
David Tennant and Olivia Colman
...and boy, did they work.
In both series, Tennant and Colman have been consistently terrific - from Hardy ambushing Miller in the ladies' loos in the premiere to the revisiting of their 'no hugging' policy in last night's finale.
But while series one's finale belonged to Colman, this year it was Tennant who utterly owned the series closer,...

With spiralling plots and returning characters retreading old ground, Broadchurch’ second series is really starting to flounder…
This review contains spoilers.
Increasingly, Broadchurch’s second run is starting to feel less like a drama in its own right, and more like a set of specially filmed DVD extras to accompany the first series. Previously unseen Broadchurch trial footage! Hear witness testimony from your favourite characters! Click here for the juicy alternate killer! Exclusive documentary special: what really happened in Sandbrook…
As such, it’s diverting for rabid fans, but not compelling enough to stand alone.
That sense was compounded this week by the return of Susan Wright (Pauline Quirke), who threw one of plumber Nige’s spanners in the works by testifying that it was her estranged son and not Joe Miller she saw placing Danny’s body on the beach. Why land her boy in it? Either Susan still thinks he did it,...

It was worth the wait, wasn't it? After nearly two years of speculation, a month of mysterious adverts on loop on ITV and CIA-esque level of secrecy surrounding the plot, Broadchurch series 2 finally arrived last night.
As writer Chris Chibnall promised, this wasn't simply another murder mystery whodunnit in the same town. In fact, it's quite the contrary - it's a can-you-prove-he-did-it.
Oh and that little case in Sandbrook that tormented Di Alec Hardy in series one. Yes, that reared up again.
At the end of the opening hour, we were left with questions piled on top of questions, and with a week to wait before we get episode two, here are the 20 most burning matters that we'll be mulling over until next Monday.
1. Why did Joe plead 'not guilty'?
"The evidence against you is clear."
"Not just me. Everyone... Nobody's innocent, Paul. Everyone's hiding things."
The exchanges between Joe Miller and Rev.

ITV has offered a first look at the new series of Birds of a Feather in a trailer for the upcoming Christmas special.
Pauline Quirke, Lesley Joseph and Linda Robson all return for what will be the comedy's second run for ITV - and the 11th overall.
Returning on Boxing Day, the eight-part run will kick off with Dorien treating Sharon and Tracey to a Christmas trip to the Canaries. However, as teased by the trailer, things don't go quite to plan for the trio.
The series, which was revived following a 15-year break and became ITV's most successful comedy launch in over a decade, has been penned by original writers Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran, with Gary Lawson and John Phelp.
Speaking about the upcoming episodes, Gran said: "We're delighted Birds of a Feather was such a success on ITV, and really pleased to be asked to write another series.

1. When is it back?
Detectives Alec Hardy (David Tennant) and Ellie Miller (Olivia Colman) will return to ITV in January 2015.
We don't know the exact date, but if we were taking a punt it would be in the second week of the year. And ITV would have to be daft not to put it on Monday nights again - it was the perfect start to the week.
2. Who is returning?
Despite Hardy's funny turns and dicky heart, David Tennant is definitely back. Despite finding out that her husband was a child murderer, Olivia Colman's slug-stomper Miller will also return.
Perhaps more surprisingly, Jodie Whittaker and Andrew Buchan are also involved in series 2. The duo played Beth and Mark Latimer, the parents of victim Danny in series one and their reappearance suggests that the second series may in some way be connected to the first - rather than a second,...

Victoria, BC. The description for Thursday (November 20) night's episode of "Gracepoint" mentions the unearthing of certain secrets about Jacki Weaver's Susan Wright, which is a good thing, because the dog-loving trailer park denizen remains one of the odder parts of Fox's 10-part mystery, and I'm saying that as a fan of "Broadchurch." I mean, the Susan Wright in "Broadchurch" was so odd she was almost literally played by an actress named "quirky" -- Pauline Quirke, if we're being truthful -- and two-time Oscar nominee Weaver has only upped the ante on quirky line-readings and unexplained menace. When I talked with Weaver on the "Gracepoint" set back in May, she was shy about discussing Susan, but she was very frank about this move into network television, Susan's difficult-to-place accent and pleasures of an unlikely career explosion following the Sundance premiere of "Animal Kingdom." I posted an exclusive clip from Thursday's episode here,...

Almost identical as they are, we look at what’s actually been changed between episode 1 of Broadchurch and Us adaptation, Gracepoint…
Warning: contains spoilers for the first episodes of Broadchurch and Gracepoint.
With the same story, characters, scenes, dialogue, male lead and screenwriter, episode one of Fox’s Gracepoint is no fuzzy “inspired by” adaptation, but a shot-for-shot impersonation of the Broadchurch opener. If Fox hadn’t paid what is probably a handsome sum for the privilege, we’d rap its knuckles with a ruler for copying ITV’s homework.
Perhaps because it’s kept so close to the source, so far Gracepoint makes for a pretty decent murder mystery, if an entirely superfluous one for audiences of the original. If you know Broadchurch, then Gracepoint’s opening episode makes for an uncanny hour of déjà-vu television. Explaining it to someone else is like explaining the illogic of last night...

The eight-part run will once again be penned by original writers Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran with Gary Lawson and John Phelps, and will begin filming later this year.
Gran said: "We're delighted Birds of a Feather was such a success on ITV and really pleased to be asked to write another series. We hope the further adventures of Sharon, Tracey and Dorien will continue to thrill audiences young and old."
ITV's Director of Comedy and Entertainment Elaine Bedell added: "We're very pleased that the brilliant chemistry...

An old face will return to ITV sitcom Birds of a Feather next month.
Chris Cardy, who originally starred as Chris Theodopolopodous in 1989, will appear in an upcoming episode of the revived series.
Theodopolopodous - who has bagged himself a new girlfriend Angie - will be seen asking Sharon (Pauline Quirke) for a divorce in the new episode, but all may not be as it seems with the slippery character.
The show - which originally aired on the BBC between 1989 and 1998 - was picked up for a new series by the rival channel last year.
Linda Robson addressed the programme's move to ITV, explaining that the channel had offered a longer run for the show.
She said: "[The BBC] offered a half-hour Christmas special and ITV promised eight episodes, so funnily enough we decided to go for the eight episodes."
