Pixar fans are in for a treat this year with not one but two offerings from the Disney-owned animation studio. Following on from this summer's Inside Out, November will see the release of The Good Dinosaur.
After some early behind-the-scenes creative turbulence (original director Bob Petersen was replaced by Peter Sohn), the film has now reconfigured with a fresh voice cast and a pre-Christmas premiere date aligned with the one that launched Frozen to big things in 2013.
The Good Dinosaur asks an intriguing what if. Imagine what would have happened to the world had the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs missed Earth. The prehistoric creatures survive and evolve to talk and become more human-like, while man falls down the natural order to sit beneath dinosaurs.
After getting stranded from his family, Arlo (Raymond Ochoa) meets a young orphan...

Until today, it appears the voice cast for Pixar's The Good Dinosaur has undergone some dramatic changes. The film has been through some ups and downs since 2013 when the original cast was announced and Bob Petersen was aboard to direct with Judy Greer, John Lithgow, Frances McDormand, Bill Hader, Neil Patrick Harris and Lucas Neff providing the voice cast and Neff voicing the lead Apatosaurus Arlo. Well, it would appear McDormand is the only one left from that group as the official cast was just announced. It will, in fact, be Raymond Ochoa (NBC's "The Night Shift") providing the voice of the Apatosaurus Arlo along with Jeffrey Wright (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2) voicing Arlo's father, Poppa, and McDormand voicing his mother, Momma. Steve Zahn (Ridiculous Six) provides the voice of a pterodactyl named Thunderclap, Aj Buckley (TNT's "Murder in the First") voices a T-Rex called Nash, Anna Paquin...

In recent history we've seen John Lasseter step in and take away directorial reigns from Brad Lewis on Cars 2 and then Brenda Chapman was ousted from the director's chair on Brave and replaced by Mark Andrews with Steve Purcell given a co-director credit. Many would argue these are two of Pixar's worst films and in my opinion Brave is their worst film. Well, it seems there are some issues in the house of Pixar yet again. A couple weeks back Disney held their D23 Expo and featured new concept art and information for their upcoming film The Good Dinosaur, which was to be directed by Bob Petersen who was given a co-director credit alongside Pete Docter on Up. However, Petersen wasn't on hand to present the footage that was shown, instead a newly announced co-director, Peter Sohn, and producer Denise Ream handled those duties. The Good Dinosaur was originally...

For those of you who missed out on Disney’s fan fest, D23, the studio provided us with a recap which we will run intact below. But we know what you really care about is what was said and shown about next year’s The Avengers. Well, there were some clips, another blindingly fast set of clips. According to a report over at Newsrama these included “a conversation between Tony Stark and Loki — with Tony Stark notably appearing behind a bar. Stark details the Avengers lineup — ‘a couple of master assassins, a demigod, and a living legend that actually lives up a legend’ — and Loki retorts back, ‘I have an army.’ ‘We have a Hulk,’ Stark replies.
“The montage sequence also included a monologue from Fury, detailing the purpose behind the Avengers — that they were organized to take on the threats that S.H.I.E.L.D. can’t.

The recent controversy about the importance (or otherwise) of story in blockbusters, sparked by comments made by the Cto of Disney, aside, there’s no doubt that for Pixar, story comes first. So any news of further Pixar films is always cause for joy and happiness.
At Disney’s D23 convention in Anaheim today, John Lasseter announced two more upcoming Pixar films. Though untitled, the provisional titles nonetheless provide some indication of the nature of each project.
The first will be Untitled Pixar Movie about Dinosaurs, scheduled for (presumably Christmas) holiday 2013. According to THR, “The story is set in a world where an asteroid didn’t hit the Earth, thus allowing the creatures to keep living and evolving.” It will be directed by Bob Petersen (co-director of Up) and produced by John Walker. There’s no word on whether Toy Story's Rex (voiced by Wallace Shawn) will appear, though...

Disney Animation Studios and Pixar chief creative officer, John Lasseter, chats to us about animation, making Cars 2, and the British rain…
John Lasseter is tired. He's been doing interviews all day for Cars 2 by the time we turn up in the graveyard slot. A spent cup of coffee by his side, at one point he looks like he might nod off on us. He wouldn't be the first.
But then we start talking animation and it's as if fresh jolts of energy are rippling through his body. His infectious enthusiasm for the art comes forth, and we settle down for a chat about it, and his new film, Cars 2...
The last film director that I can remember was so senior in a movie studio was Joe Roth, who was heading up Disney in the 1990s.
That's interesting, yeah.
And Joe Roth couldn't make films himself while he was heading up Fox,...

Every writer on this year's annual Santa Barbara Film Festival "It Starts with a Script" panel wrote a screenplay that was personal, on some level--even Up writer-director Pete Docter and Star Trek's Alex Kurtzman. And they all mixed up their genres, too. Docter and his Pixar co-writers Bob Petersen and Tom McCarthy wrote "a coming-of-old story," or "an action adventure starring an old man." Kurtzman and co-writer Roberto Orci wrote "a sci-fi brother story." It's Complicated writer-director Nancy Meyers wrote a "relationship comedy." (500) Days of Summer's Scott Neustadter and co-writer Michael H. Weber wrote "a coming-of-age story masquerading as a romantic comedy." Precious's Geoffrey Fletcher wrote a "coming-of-age story" that "transcends" that genre, he said. The Hurt Locker's Mark Boal wrote "a war film. My ...
