“Avatar: The Way of Water” has made history once more.
As James Cameron’s long-gestating sequel continues its climb up the all-time box-office charts, “The Way of Water” set a new record for the most nominations for a single project from the Visual Effects Society Awards, announced this morning. The film’s 14 nods highlight achievements that range from VFX to character animation to emerging technology, where it accounts for three of the category’s five nominees. This tally surpasses the previous records set by the 11 nominations for the original “Avatar” in 2010 and the 13 nominations for “The Mandalorian” in 2021.
Joining “The Way of Water” on the Ves leaderboard are “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio” and “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” which respectively top the animation and TV fields with six and seven nominations. The 21st annual Visual Effects Society Awards will take place February 15 at the Beverly Hilton,...

Suffice it to say that Avatar: The Way of Water commanded the Visual Effects Society’s attention. James Cameron box office-smash sequel scored a record 14 nominations for the 2023 Ves Awards, which were announced today.
Helped by three noms in the Emerging Technology category, Disney’s The Way of Water topped the single-year noms haul by Disney+’s The Mandalorian in 2021. It also shattered the old high-water mark for films, set by — no big surprise here — the original Avatar, which amassed 11 noms in 2010.

Scaramucci Reportedly Fooled into Exchange with Prankster Posing as Priebus: ‘You Know What You Did’
A British “email prankster” successfully tricked top White House officials — including recently ousted communications director Anthony Scaramucci — by posing as various administration members, adding to the tumult of a presidency that many view as in crisis.
CNN’s Jake Tapper reported Monday night that the prankster posed as recently ousted chief of staff Reince Priebus, and emailed Scaramucci shortly after Priebus announced his resignation last week.

Both dressed in black, Johansson and Dauriac attended the An Uncanny Likeness exhibition reception at the Simon Lee Gallery in New York City and happily posed for photos together. The 32-year-old actress did not, however, appear to be wearing her wedding ring at the event.

President-elect Donald Trump may not be a big fan of Saturday Night Live, but his pick for energy secretary seems to be.
During Rick Perry’s confirmation hearing on Thursday, the former Texas governor found himself in front of Sen. Al Franken, who was a writer and performer on SNL before his career in politics. To kick off his line of questioning, Franken first thanked Perry for coming by his office and asking if he enjoyed their time together. Perry responded with a reference to SNL that became more awkward than he may have expected.

Rick Perry has become famous for his poor debate performances, which contributed largely to his fall from the top of the Gop polls, but he has topped himself tonight. With a good head of steam going answering a question from Caterpillar CEO Douglas R. Oberhelman, Perry ground to a halt as he tried to explain the three government agencies he would eliminate. "Let me tell you, it's three agencies that are gone when I get there. Commerce, Education, and the um, what's the third one there?"...

From Richard Nixon’s flop sweat to Rick Perry‘s “Sorry Oops,” candidates have often stumbled at the podium during presidential debates. 1960: During the first televised presidential debate, Richard Nixon refused to wear stage make-up, revealing his sweaty forehead under the hot TV lights. This made the younger John F. Kennedy look much more confident. 1976: Gerald Ford claimed that he didn’t believe that Eastern Europe was under “Soviet domain,” which proved to be an unpopular opinion, as the moderator repeated the question in bewilderment. 1980: When the moderator tried to silence Ronald Reagan’s microphone during a Republican primary debate,...

You’ve probably heard of the public policy debate regarding if we should privatize Social Security. Less well-known is the new front of liberal vs. conservative political battles: whether to monetize public education. In the documentary Starving the Beast, which premiered earlier this year at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, filmmaker Steve Mims examines this pressing question. The end result is somewhat sprawling and uneven, though the film offers a couple of interesting learning points along way.
Any parent with young kids has undoubtedly already fretted about the rising costs of college. Mature teenagers, too, may have worried about whether they will leave school with mountains of oppressive debt. Public schooling is a critical bulwark to allay some of these concerns and, as the film begins, it is under a concerted attack by certain interest groups. Like with other areas of public life in the United States,...

Warning! This article contains spoilers, the kind of swearing you'd expect from someone who's sat through thirteen Dean Cain Christmas movies, and mild peril in the form of ailing sanity.
If you’re anything like me you might have some fairly warm, fuzzy memories of Dean Cain. He was Superman! He brought Superman back! Supes! So fun to watch on Saturday afternoons or after school, saving Metropolis from do-badders and waiting for Lois to notice him without his cape on just once.
Okay! Soooo, what has Cain been up to since The New Adventures Of Superman finished? I mean, sure, you saw him in an episode of that one show. And then there was that other time. More recently, he's had a role in Supergirl. Naturally!

At the ‘Happy Hour’ Gop Debate on Thursday evening, Rick Perry flubbed Ronald Reagan’s name, appearing to call the former President Ronald Raven. #RonaldRaven Perry was speaking about illegal immigration when he made the flub, which immediately went viral. (The flub occurs at the 0:24 seconds mark.) Needless to say, the Internet reacted with enthusiasm. […]

Rick Perry may have not made it to the main stage for the Gop primary debates tonight, but he definitely left a mark. During Fox News pre-debate forum featuring seven candidates who didn't qualify for the 9 p.m. Gop presidential debate (which has been dubbed the "happy hour debate"), Perry was asked a question on illegal immigration. While responding to the question, the former Texas governor made a mistake that will forever live on the Internet. He meant to mention former president Ronald Reagan, but it sounded as though Perry slipped up and accidentally called him Ronald Raven. Oops! "Americans are tired of hearing this debate want to go to 'What are you going to do about illegal...

He is crushing every Republican in the polls, and as we prepare for the much hyped first Gop presidential debate on Thursday night, America cannot seem to get enough of Donald Trump. Yet have we seen the makings of a newer, less cantankerous Trump? Almost a Trump 2.0? It seems like eons ago when Trump gave out Lindsey Graham's phone number, bashed Rick Perry's intelligence, called a breastfeeding lawyer "terrible" and said John McCain wasn't a war hero. This new Trump seems to be talking about politics and issues more than throwing shade. All of this seems to be helping his poll numbers, so Trump called into MSNBC's Morning Joe Tuesday morning...

While Hillary Clinton was at a rally in Des Moines, Iowa on Monday discussing climate change, her campaign was hard at work producing a video to mock Gop competitors for denying climate change. In the one-minute mashup seen above, footage from “Frankenstein” is used to compare conservatives to mad scientists. Rick Perry, Jeb Bush, Rick Santorum, Donald Trump and the rest of the group are seen insisting that — though they aren’t scientists — they remain unconvinced by the evidence. Us Republican hopeful for 2016 presidential race says ‘gun-free zones’ are a ‘bad idea’ and citizens should be allowed to carry weapons while watching movies
Us presidential hopeful Rick Perry has said filmgoers should be able to take their guns into cinemas in order to help stop fatal shootings.
Speaking on CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday, gun rights proponent Perry was reminded by host Jake Tapper of the killings in Lafayette, Louisiana on Thursday evening at a screening of the Amy Schumer comedy Trainwreck. The former Texas governor, who is running for the Republican ticket for the 2016 presidential election, said “gun-free zones” were a “bad idea” and questioned whether allowing people to carry firearms in public spaces might have saved lives during recent fatal shooting incidents.

Gauntlet thrown. Rick Perry spoke out against his 2016 election competitor Donald Trump on Wednesday, July 22, harshly dissing his fellow Republican politician in a campaign address. The former Governor of Texas, 65, weighed in on Trump, 69, as he continues to make headlines for his controversial statements on everyone from Mexican immigrants to Sen. John McCain. "He offers a barking carnival act that can be best described as Trumpism: a toxic mix of demagoguery, mean-spiritedness and nonsense that will lead the Republican Party to perdition if pursued," [...]...

He might not be No.1 in the polls, but Lindsey Graham is officially at the top of our list of Best Political Drop-the-Mic Comebacks. In Donald Trump's quest to pick on a different Republican presidential candidate every day (and there are a lot of them), with former Texas governor Rick Perry being his new target today, we are still talking about Trump's hilariously bizarre (and quite dickish) move yesterday revealing personal information about the longtime senator of South Carolina. Yesterday at a rally in Graham's home state, Trump defended himself after Graham called him a "jackass" for his comments regarding Sen. John McCain by revealing Graham's cell phone number. "Give it a...

Politically-inclined Huffington Post readers won’t find updates about Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign on the site’s politics page. The website announced Friday it will cover Trump in its entertainment section instead of its political vertical. “Our reason is simple: Trump’s campaign is a sideshow,” Washington bureau chief Ryan Grimm and editorial director Danny Shea wrote. Donald Trump has stolen the headlines in the 2016 race for the White House. He’s been outspoken against immigration, naïve on his measures to combat Isis, and even taken a (tiny) shot at sacred Republican institutions like Fox News. Despite all his blustering, it seems that his tactless offensive is working. Trump recently moved to the top of a nationwide Republican primary poll. But, unbeknownst to the real estate billionaire, the majority of analysts still see him as a farce and he is the least-liked candidate out there. In many ways, Donald Trump has become the Vuvuzela of Republican candidates: Frustratingly hard to ignore, impossible to comprehend, and, hopefully, an annoyance for only a couple of months.
Despite his eccentric opinions and delusional rhetoric, no one can deny Trump has this je ne sais coif about him. You simply cannot turn away. His opening campaign speech read...

Donald Trump has a lot of opinions. But when it comes to same-sex marriage, the outspoken Republican presidential candidate says his views are now “changing.” Trump appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday, where he addressed a number of topics including abortion, the Affordable Care Act, Isis, immigration and gay marriage. When the conversation turned to same-sex marriage, which the Supreme Court ruled to legalize nationwide Friday, Trump affirmed he holds a more conservative position on the issue, saying only “I’m traditional marriage. It is changing rapidly.” Also Read: Donald Trump, Marco Rubio, Rick Perry, Carly Fiorina Slam Supreme Court's.
