This Sunday (Nov. 24), "The Mentalist" will reveal once and for all the identity of Red John, the serial killer who murdered Patrick Jane's (Simon Baker) family. Although Jane asserted in a press conference during "The Great Red Dragon" that Red John is actually Cbi director Gale Bertram, the killer's actual identity is still very much up in the air.
The list of seven is still in play, so let's go through a couple of the conspiracy theories claiming that each of the men are Red John.
Brett Partridge
When Cho went to the morgue to look at his arm for confirmation of the tattoo, he didn't look at his face. And it looked like the tattoo was there, right? Something's fishy.
Bob Kirkland
Kirkland has a twin brother -- could he be the one who died? Listen, evil twin twists aren't just for soap operas.
Thomas McAllister
He's been around since the beginning.

This Sunday on The Mentalist (CBS, 10/9c), Patrick Jane will quite possibly best his most incessant adversary ever: NFL overrun.
After being penalized by successive Sunday football delays and in one instance outright sidelined for a week, “My understanding is that’s not going to be a problem,” says co-producer Jordan Harper, who penned the penultimate episode of the Red John arc.
And it’s a good thing, too. When last we tuned in, Jane had lured the five remaining possi-Johns to his house, where it was revealed that Sheriff McAllister, Reede Smith and Gale Bertram all bear the “three dots” tattoo on their shoulders.

Patrick Jane's need for secrecy put seven innocent lives in jeopardy throughout "Red Listed."
Well, perhaps they weren't quite so innocent... but they weren't Red John.
Below, TV Fanatic Christine Orlando is joined by The Mentalist fans Feint, @SteeleSimz, and @Donnamour1969 as they debate Kirkland's place in the Red John legacy and the long awaited return of Madeleine Hightower.
-------------------------------------------
Did you think Bob Kirkland was Red John?
Feint: Yes, I thought and hoped Kirkland was Red John. Of course, it was obvious he would be just another person hunting for him but they made such a good case of him. After Partridge, he was my #1 suspect.
@SteeleSimz: I never pegged Kirkland to be Red John even when he first appeared in season five. Yes, he did have that creepy vibe but I always figured he was on the same mission as Jane and for the same reason.

[Warning: Some spoilers ahead.] Who is Red John? The mystery of the enigmatic killer, who has plagued Patrick Jane's life for the past five years, will take center stage when The Mentalist's sixth season kicks off. With a final list of seven suspects (Bret Stiles, Gale Bertram, Ray Haffner, Reede Smith, Robert Kirkland, Sheriff Thomas McAllister and Brett Partridge) who could be Red John, two looming cast departures in Amanda Righetti and Owain Yeoman and new blood coming in, the CBS drama is ramping up the action in a significant way. The list of candidates for Red John was narrowed to seven on the season finale of "The Mentalist." Patrick had come up with the list, but he wasn't alone. Red John, always inside his head and often a few steps ahead of him, predicted the list. He'd had Lorelie read the names on a video before he killed her, getting it exactly right before Patrick had even come up with it.
“See, that’s clever. But fair’s fair, Patrick. You’ve changed the game, so there’s new rules now," Lorelei said for Red John. "I’m going to start killing again, often. Until you catch me, or I catch you.” She also said that she was going to die because Patrick once shook Red John's hand -- another tantalizing clue.
The seven names both of them came up with are Gale Bertram, Ray Haffner, Bob Kirkland, Sheriff Thomas McAllister,...

I knew "Red John's Rules" was going to be intriguing when it opened with an exhausted Patrick Jane burning all of the information on his Red John wall. He'd obviously had a major breakthrough but before he'd share it with Lisbon, he needed sleep. That meant lying on the leather sofa in the middle of the Cbi with his suit jacket thrown over his head for most of the day.
For anyone else that might have seemed odd but when your wife and child have been brutally murdered in your own home, I suppose it would be easier to sleep in the middle of a bustling law enforcement office.
Jane's memory of LeeLee Barlow as a little girl was so simple and precious. I loved that he shared that moment with Lisbon, a moment he steadfastly believes he's never shared with anyone else.
But then how did Red John know?...

Patrick Jane tells Lisbon in the season finale of "The Mentalist" that he's going to tell her the seven suspects he thinks could be Red John.
And so he does -- or rather, he confirms it. In a jaw-dropper of a final scene, he's beaten to the punch. The twist is so well-executed that it almost renders the actual names secondary.
Enough with the vagaries: Red John's latest killing is designed specifically to draw Jane in. The victim leads him and Lisbon back to a mobile home park that's also a regular carny layover, and where Jane spent a lot of time when he was young.
The woman, it turns out, was also someone Jane knew as a boy, someone he has a particular fond memory of from a Fourth of July picnic a long time ago. Jane and Lisbon discuss how her death is like Red John reached into...

In the beginning of the fifth season of The Mentalist, I somewhat jokingly wondered who Red John was. My picks were Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) himself, Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney), Lorelei Martins (Emmanuelle Chriqui), or someone else. Well, it turns out I’m right. It’s someone else. Spoilers to follow.
Earlier this season before her demise at the hands of Red John, Lorelei told Jane that he had shaken hands with the serial killer. Through some miraculous process of elimination, Jane whittled it down to seven possible suspects. At the end of the finale, those names are revealed. (When...

After last week’s big Red John episode, ‘Black Cherry’ took The Mentalist back to its traditional case-of-the-week format on Sunday – with a little bit of Jane’s (Simon Baker) nemesis thrown in for good measure.
The case was fairly standard. The idea of a man trying to escape his past is not a new one by any means, but certainly one that I enjoy. It doesn’t hurt that it shares thematic elements with our favourite Cbi consultant, either. Also, as is seemingly the case a lot these days, I didn’t guess the killer correctly. Well, I did, but I didn’t guess that there were Three killers. As soon as a corporate retreat was mentioned along with a local paper from the same area, I knew the murder would have something to do with ‘what happened’ there.
The best part of this case...
