Look out! Michael Myers is back — for revenge. Sort of. While "Halloween 5" is officially subtitled "The Revenge of Michael Myers," that subtitle never actually appears in the opening credits. Maybe they forgot. In any case, The Shape is back yet again, despite being shot approximately a billion times and dropped down into a mineshaft at the end of "Halloween 4." But you just can't keep this guy down for long (unless you're making a sequel about masks that turn kids' heads into bugs or something like that).
In "Halloween 5," The Shape spends a full year sleeping, only to then wake up, refreshed and ready to go after his niece Jamie Lloyd (Danielle Harris) once again. Meanwhile, his old nemesis Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence) has gone off the deep end, and he's willing to act like a crazy person if it means finally killing Michael once and for all.

John Carpenter's 1978 horror film "Halloween" was famously inspired by 1960s serial killer films like Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" and Powell/Pressburger's "Peeping Tom," only filtered through a low-budget, '70s grindhouse lens. Initially, "Halloween" was dismissed by audiences, but legend has it that Roger Ebert's overwhelmingly positive 1979 review saved it from obscurity. This may seem like an odd piece of trivia, given that Ebert infamously hated the slasher genre that "Halloween" helped spawn.
For the uninitiated, the original "Halloween" was about an empty-eyed young child, Michael Myers, who killed his big sister in cold blood on Halloween night in 1963. For fifteen years, Michael was kept in an insane asylum where he never spoke a word and stared blankly at a wall. Michael breaks out of the hospital in 1978, travels back to his old neighborhood, dons a creepy white-face mask, and begins stalking and murdering babysitters on Halloween night.

After missing out on Halloween III, iconic slasher Michael Myers made his triumphant return to the screen in 1988’s Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers – and you can here all about that in the video found Here. Halloween 4 had a shocking cliffhanger ending. Our little heroine Jamie Lloyd picked up a pair of scissors and attacked her adoptive mother, seeming to have inherited the evil killer instinct of her uncle Michael Myers. Some fans were disappointed that the following year’s Halloween 5 (get it Here) brushed aside the idea of Jamie becoming a killer. Maybe they would have been satisfied with the alternative script for the sequel that was written by Shem Bitterman, Halloween 5: The Killer Inside Me. That’s the unmade Halloween sequel we’re digging into with the new episode of the Wtf Happened to This Unmade Horror Movie video series, which you can...

What do John “The Arrow” Fallon and Lance Vlcek think of Halloween 5? Watch the video embedded above to find out!
Directed by Dominique Othenin-Girard from a screenplay he wrote with Michael Jacobs (with Shem Bitterman also receiving credit for writing a previous draft), Halloween 5 has the following synopsis:

Following the success of “Reservoir Dogs” and his screenplay for “True Romance,” Quentin Tarantino got an offer from Miramax to write the sixth film in the “Halloween” horror movie franchise. Tarantino reveals in a new interview with Consequence of Sound that he never got started on the script but he did kick around a few ideas of what would happen. “Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers” (1989) ended with a mysterious man in black breaking the killer Michael Myers out of jail. It would have been up to Tarantino to figure out who the man in black is and what he and Michael Myers do next.
“Yeah, I was like, ‘Leave that scene where [the Man in Black] shows up, alright, and freeze Michael Myers,'” Tarantino said. “And so the only thing that I had in my mind, I still hadn’t figured out who that dude was, was like the first 20 minutes...

If there is one thing that horror fans love it’s Michael Myers, that’s probably why when he never even bothered to turn up to Halloween 3: Season of the Witch they took it so badly (I jest of course). Halloween 3: Season of the Witch for me is one of the underrated in the series but of course thi is not a look at that film but a review of Halloween 4 & 5 – out now on budget DVD just in time to cash in on the forthcoming home entertainment release of Blumhouse’s new Halloween next week!
Halloween 4 saw the return of the masked bogeyman when he discovered that he had a niece, Jamie Straude which strangely enough comes at just the right time as he’s once again given the chance to escape.

And so it was written, that a beast would come in the form of film, and that film would beget others due to profit, and those films would spread across the horror landscape to mostly whispered calls of, “meh”. Not for this little demon, however; as all of The Omen films work for me in one way or another, bringing us to number four and the first for the small screen, Omen IV: The Awakening (1991). The script gets flipped, yet it’s more of the same, and I’m not complaining.
Originally broadcast as part of the Fox Night at the Movies, Omen IV was trounced by ABC’ MacGyver on one side, CBS’ Murphy Brown/Designing Women on the other, and NBC’s Fresh Prince/Blossom on the other other. And as expected, no sins lain upon the critics were forgiven. This thing got roasted on the coals of Hell itself.

It just wouldn’t be Halloween without Michael Myers. Ever since John Carpenter’s silent killer stalked Laurie Strode and her friends in 1978’s “Halloween,” the indestructible boogeyman has resurrected for 10 of the franchise’s 11 films, slashing his way through Haddonfield, Illinois decade after decade. Carpenter’s pulsing synthesizer and ominous piano notes are instantly recognizable, a soundtrack for the holiday and a warning for anyone who hears it — Beware of the Boogeyman.
Not every “Halloween” film is great, but the franchise continued to expand and grow over the years, as audiences demanded the iconic killer to come back from impossible odds. To be sure, there was always a touch of the supernatural to Carpenter’s original film; Michael was never really quite human. But as the mythos of Michael Myers expanded, it pulled in new family members, strange psychic links, and even ancient Druid curses.

So the big question everyone has been wondering since the announcement of the next Halloween film was whether or not it would continue on in the universe set up by Rob Zombie. Recently Collider caught up with Malek Akkad at the Saturn Awards, who shed some light on the subject.
“I can’t talk about it too much right now," says Akkad. "It will definitely keep elements and bring in new elements. But I really want to bring it back to kind of like, the classic – because the last one got a little dark – I want to bring it back to the classic Friday night horror film that people will really like.”

Last year the horror classic Halloween celebrated 35 years of terror for those willing to partake in its vision of unrelenting horror. But that was only the beginning of the celebration.
What producers Moustapha Akkad, Debra Hill, and Irwin Yablans; writer/director John Carpenter; and stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasence started in 1978 has transformed into one of the most durable, iconic – and copiously studied -- horror film franchises ever created. Before Jason, before Freddy, and before Jigsaw, there was… Michael. Everything Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers accomplished by bringing back the masked knife-wielding maniac with an injection of Hitchcockian suspense was demolished by the fifth installment in the franchise. Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers is a sad attempt at taking the back story of the killer and expanding upon it. This movie is the perfect example of producers and screenwriters trying to make more out of something than is possible. Anchor Bay's release of the film on Blu-ray gives fans a chance to revisit it and scratch their head in bewilderment at the ridiculous subplot alluded to.
A year has passed since Michael Myer's young niece Jamie mentally broke down after being stalked by the killer. The attack on her step-mother leads to her admittance into a children's psychiatric hospital. Michael survived the mine collapse and shares a psychic link with Jamie. Now mute, she must...

Few films garner a strong enough impact to merit a “classic” label. Even fewer obtain followings large enough to warrant the making of nine sequels. John Carpenter is one of the very few in this business who can lay claim to both accomplishments. Though Halloween began as a small independent feature, it’s now grown into an undeniably successful franchise, and with the release of Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2 reboot just around the corner, it doesn’t appear Halloween’s momentum is anywhere near slowing.
The Beginning (1978)
In 1978 John Carpenter and Debra Hill poured the artistic cement that would act as a foundation for what would ultimately become labeled horrors slasher sub-genre (there were a few excellent slasher films preceding Carpenter‘s work, but all failed to grab the attention that Halloween captured), a now pivotal piece of the cinematic related horror puzzle.
