Hans Müller was attacked in Karl Kraus' play Die letzten Tage der Menschheit (de) (The Last Days of Mankind) and in his journal Die Fackel (The Torch).
He lived a lifetime - surprisingly open for that time - with his partner Nikolaus Schwarz as " couple " in Einigen on Lake Thun . When Müller died in 1950, Schwarz jumped into death because of love sickness..
His plays attained huge popularity and in the 10's he was the most played author at the noted Viennese Burgtheater.
Müller-Einigen went to Hollywood in the 1920s where several films were made from his scripts.
His brother was the author and critic Ernst Lothar (real name: Ernst Lothar Müller).
As his proper name, Hans Müller, was quite common, he added the name of the Swiss village of Einigen to it.
Hans Müller moved to Switzerland to the village Einigen in 1930 and since then he was known as Hans Müller-Einigen. In the same year he wrote his most famous play "Im weissen Rössl am Wolfgangsee", which was performed countless times in German-speaking countries in the next years.
During his education to a Dr. jur. he already wrote his first stage plays.
Earlier works were the librettos for Erich Wolfgang Korngold operas Violanta and Das Wunder der Heliane.
Besides his plays for theater and film he also wrote novels and stories which also were filmed partially.
