Law & Order Season 24: Everything We Know So Far About the Latest Season of NBC's Iconic Crime Drama
Thursday nights wouldn't be the same without Law & Order.
The flagship cop/legal drama took a hiatus between 2010 and 2021, but it'll be kicking off NBC's Thursday night marathon of crime dramas again this fall.
That means more cases ripped from the headlines, more of Price butting heads with the new Da, and probably more miraculous last-minute wins in the courtroom.
The flagship series hasn't deviated much from the formula that made Law & Order successful in the 1990s. The cops still investigate a case straight out of recent news, usually a murder, and then turn the defendant over to the Da's office to be prosecuted.
Nowadays, there's more diversity in the police and legal sides of the criminal justice system than when Law & Order first began, and there's less ambiguity in the courtroom.

The three shows of One Chicago—Med, Fire, and P.D.—are facing some major changes in their finales, airing on May 22. Two are losing major characters, while the third has a lot of conflict going on at the workplace. First up is Med, and Sharon Goodwin is going to be dealing with a lot in the finale. What’s going on in the hospital is always the source of the biggest conflict for her, S. Epatha Merkerson said when she, Miranda Rae Mayo (Fire), and Jason Beghe (P.D.) stopped by TV Insider’s office. “There’s always something going on, something explosive.” In the finale, that includes a lawsuit. “She also has to deal with her diabetes, so that will come into play because she’s not really taking care of herself,” Merkerson revealed. “And it’s a great thing that we’ve done because I’m diabetic,...

Actress Miranda Rae Mayo shared some Chicago Fire spoilers about the big season finale.
One of the recognizable stars from the One Chicago shows, Miranda plays Lieutenant Stella Kidd.
Kidd was absent from the latest episode as Firehouse 51 dealt with the loss of Truck 81. Through character conversations, we learned she was in California hot on the trail of a new truck.
Things got more tense with Paramedic Chief Robinson, though, after Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) reported her right-hand man (Lennox) for nearly killing a patient in the field.
People have had to step up and lead the house recently. The absence of Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker) has led to some interesting storylines.
Unfortunately, part of the season finale includes an “emotional farewell” to Boden.

Camryn Manheim is leaving Law & Order, but you couldn’t have known that by watching the show’s season finale, which aired tonight.
Instead of a farewell, the focus centered on Tony Goldwyn’s Da Baxter, with Manheim’s character, Lt. Kate Dixon, barely featured. There was no indication during the show that she would be leaving.
Manheim joined the show as Lieutenant Kate Dixon in the Season 21 premiere, The Right Thing, though she had portrayed smaller roles in seasons 1, 3, and 4. Dixon is currently the commanding officer of the Manhattan North Homicide Squad’s 27th Precinct.
Earlier, a statement was issued to Deadline on Manheim’s imminent departure.
“I thank Camryn for her three wonderful seasons helping us relaunch Law & Order. She is a class act and I wish her nothing but the best for her next chapter,” shared series creator Dick Wolf in a statement.

Three One Chicago stars were featured on the Wednesday night episode of The Tonight Show.
NBC celebrated One Chicago Wednesday with new episodes of the three hit dramas, followed by three stars sitting down with Jimmy Fallon.
After comedian Will Forte served as the primary guest on May 15, Jimmy welcomed three recognizable faces from One Chicago.
Jason Beghe (Hank Voight on Chicago P.D.), Miranda Rae Mayo (Stella Kidd on Chicago Fire), and S. Epatha Merkerson (Sharon Goodwin from Chicago Med) sat down with the Tonight Show host.
The trio brought something fun for the host to enjoy while they filmed a new episode at Rockefeller Center in New York.
It was a good plug for the Chicago-based dramas, giving the shows some added buzz as the season finales approach.

Law & Order: Svu hit it last year, albeit with a controversial episode that angered many survivors.

Law & Order Doesn't Do Tribute Episodes
When Sam Waterson exited the series on Law & Order Season 23 Episode 5, it was a strong story that was still disappointing because it didn't contain any flashbacks or other tributes to his iconic character. The same thing happened here.
That's the way it has to be to an extent. It would be off-brand to have an episode that's more tribute than original story. Still, there should have been something more to the story than...

Following his 2015 Emmy win for the final season of “Mad Men,” Jon Hamm took a large step back from TV stardom in order to beef up his film resume with titles such as “Baby Driver,” “Richard Jewell,” and “Top Gun: Maverick.” Now that he has made a splashy return to the small screen by playing new roles on “Fargo” and “The Morning Show” and reprising one on “Good Omens,” his Emmy nominations total could instantly rise from 16 to 19. If all of his possible 2024 bids come to fruition, he will be only the fourth person and second man to ever compete for three acting Emmys at once.

Blake Cameron James as Malik and Gian Knight Ramirez as Eric, in We Grown Now. Courtesy of Participant. Courtesy of Sony Pictures Classics.
In a touching portrait of childhood friendship, the child-focused We Grown Now captures the magic and innocence of childhood, even one where the two inseparable friends, elementary-school age boys, are growing up in poverty in a housing project that later became infamous for violence and a symbol of urban decay, Chicago’s Cabrini-Green. But in the early 1990s, when this story is set, all that is still in the future although very much on the horizon. Like Florida Project, the story is told from a child point-of-view, as the boys play and explore their world with all the joy and curiosity of childhood.
The real appeal of this moving drama is in performances of the two young actors playing these friends, performances filled with believability and an inescapable appeal and charm.

Nathan Zellner and David Zellner’s Sasquatch Sunset is stomping into circa 850 theaters this weekend after debuting in 9 with a solid opening for a film many could find weird. A tribe of Sasquatch, possibly the last of their kind, live and love in the woods of northern California, where it was shot.
“We are taking Bigfoot to America. We have high hopes that the broader market will embrace the movie,” says Kyle Davies of distributor Bleecker Street, calling it “a very different” kind of movie and “a bit of an unknown.”
“It’s a wildcard.”
Marketing was mainly through social activations. “I wouldn’t call it traditional marketing. It doesn’t really fit in that box,” Davies adds. The Sasquatch standees in theaters are fun. And Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar is displaying a baby Sasquatch sitting in a glass case with umbilical cord and placenta.
This is “a polarizing film.

Chicago – There was once a Chicago housing project called Cabrini Green, and its legacy was a damning testament to Chicago’s mismanagement of housing for the poor in general. It’s gone now, the victim of gentrification, but its memory lives on in “We Grown Now,” a new release from writer and director Minhal Baig.
Rating: 4.0/5.0
The film is set in 1992, rightly called the beginning of the end for the massive high-rise Chicago Housing Authority complex. Malik and Eric (Blake Cameron James and Gian Knight Ramirez) are best friends and neighbors at Cabrini, idling between school and imaginative play. Malik’s mother Dolores (Jurnee Smolett) and his grandmother Anita (S. Epatha Merkerson) keep body and soul together for their family, along with Eric’s father Jason (Lil Rei Howery). When a fellow child 7-year-old resident Dantrell Davis is killed in a gang related shooting, Dolores takes steps to move out,...

Set in and around Chicago’s Cabrini-Green housing complex in 1992, writer-director Minhal Baig’s We Grown Now follows best friends Malik (Blake Cameron James) and Eric (Gian Knight Ramirez), who were born and raised in the low-income housing project most people associate with its high crime and poverty rates. For the two boys, though, Cabrini-Green is neither abhorrent nor an aberration, but rather a self-contained world containing all their hopes and dreams, and which they leave only to walk to elementary school.
Told primarily from Malik’s point of view, the film delicately captures both the wonder and tunnel vision of adolescence, particularly through its depiction of the built-in defense mechanism that is his imagination. Credit: George Burns Jr/NBC Now in its ninth season, Chicago Med has been a popular addition to television’s canon of medical dramas. And, like so many of producer Dick Wolf’s shows, Chicago Med also strives for a high level of real-life accuracy, even as it dramatizes the lives of the show’s characters. S. Epatha Merkerson plays the chief administrator of the show’s fictional hospital, and, when we’ve spoken to her about the show over the years, she told us that the show’s depiction of life at the hospital is very much like what you’d find in real life. Chicago Med is digging deep into Sharon Goodwin’s (S. Epatha Merkerson) life in Season 9, so that means there has to be some drama. After the end of the latest episode, Sharon can’t ignore the fact that there’s reason to be concerned about her ex-husband Bert’s (Greg Alan Williams) memory. In the February 21 episode “I Make A Promise, I Will Never Leave You,” she recruits Dr. Charles (Oliver Platt) to evaluate Bert. But Sharon’s romance, with chief of oncology Dr. Dennis Washington (John Earl Jelks), is going strong, which we love to see. TV Insider spoke with Merkerson ahead of the next episode to talk about the Bert situation, the romance with Dennis, and, of course, our favorite relationship on the show: Sharon and Charles. At the end of the last episode, Sharon learns there’s a reason to be concerned about Bert’s memory and she can’t ignore that.

Chicago Med — – Pictured: S. Epatha Merkerson as Sharon Goodwin — (Photo by: George Burns Jr/NBC) It’s no stretch to say that S. Epatha Merkerson must be one of producer Dick Wolf’s favorite actors — after all, she starred in 17 seasons of the original Law & Order, and she’s been a regular on all nine seasons of Chicago Med. On the latter show, she plays Sharon Goodwin, who’s risen through the ranks to become the administrative director of the show’s hospital. With that responsibility, it turns out, comes plenty of conflict, and Merkerson says that, every time she reads a new script, she’s anxious to find out who she’ll be clashing with in the episode. It’s been a long wait for NBC’s Chicago Med to return with its 9th Season but with the premiere less than a week away (January 17), Deadline has some juicy nuggets to tease about the show’s return.
In the Season 8 finale, the medical drama said goodbye to Day 1-er Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) who handed in his resignation after finding himself more and more unsettled with the new changes implemented at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center following Jack Dayton’s purchase of the hospital. His main concern was Dayton’s insistence on using the O.R. 2.0. even after a machine error caused the death of a patient and could’ve also claimed Dayton’s life.
Dayton’s live surgery for investors cost him nearly all his money after showing the high-tech machine wasn’t ready for showtime. So to stay afloat financially, Dayton sells the hospital.
