Give Tim McCann credit for his twisted imagination: His see-it-to-believe-it 2005 cheapie Nowhere Man concerns a guy hunting for his own severed penis, sliced off by his ex-fiancée, who's now hiding out with the organ in the residence of her former porn-movie co-star. While not quite that outré-sounding, McCann's latest, White Rabbit, boasts its own head-turning premise: Bullied adolescent Harlon (Nick Krause) can't shake the torment of his memory of shooting a rabbit at close range as a child. In the tense opening, Krause has a black eye, sports slicked-back hair, and wears dark, fingerless gloves — a far cry from his dopey guise in The Descendants. The rest of the movie, shot in gun-country Louisiana (overgrown weeds, rusty sw...

'Scream 4' star Brittany Robertson may have been a bit down in the dumps recently following the announcement that CW's teen witch series 'The Secret Circle' wasn't set to be renewed for a second season. However, the 22-year old actress can turn that frown upside down as she's landed a leading role in Tim McCann's new flick 'White Rabbit'. The new drama penned by Anthony Di Pietro deals with a bullied high school teen who is tormented to the breaking point by visions of the bunny he killed as a boy. Sounds pretty bizarre to say the least but we'd be interested to see how this turns out. And now with the inclusion of Miss Robertson (below) on the cast list it's most definitely worth checking out...

A hookah-smoking caterpillar has given Britt Robertson the call to join an indie drama.
The "Scream 4" beauty is set to feed her head as she'll play with the men on the chessboard of "White Rabbit," according to Deadline.
"White Rabbit" centers on a bullied high school teen (Nick Krause of "The Descendants") whose nightmares begin to affect his waking life. Robertson will be playing his girlfriend, with Sam Trammell of "True Blood" set to play his father.
Britt Robertson recently wrapped her recurring role as Cassie Blake on the now-canceled CW drama, "The Secret Circle." She recently scowled her way through the dysfunctional family drama, "The Family Tree," and screamed with the best of them as Marnie Cooper in Wes Craven's "Scream 4."
Robertson also recently earned a lot of buzz for her turn in the high school romance, "The First Time," which made a splash at Sundance earlier this year.

Though he didn't win the award season buzz of his co-stars George Clooney and Shailene Woodley, ingendude Nick Krause offered a memorable turn and proved a capable scene-stealer as Woodley's onscreen beau, an oblivious surfer who gets punched out by the film's fiery grandfather, Robert Forster. Krause took his licks and is now getting a shot to headline a drama of his own as THR announces he's signed on to star in Tim McCann's soon-to-shoot indie White Rabbit. The film penned by Anthony Di Pietro centers on the mental deterioration of a bullied teen boy (Krause) who begins suffer hallucinations about the white rabbit that he killed when he was younger, as well as a menageries of other menacing characters, who coach him toward insanity and deadly revenge. The twisted fantasy elements of this demented drama are sure to draw comparisons to another bunny-centered drama, the cult classic Donnie Darko,...

Your eyes do not deceive you: Two actors from The Descendants — the film’s main romantic pairing, too — are both starring in films titled White [Animal]. And, just as Shailene Woodley is likely to take a darker slant with the new Gregg Araki picture, THR says her onscreen boyfriend, Nick Krause, is also going in a dark (not to mention fantastical) direction on White Rabbit.
Joining him will be Sam Trammell (True Blood), both of whom will star for director Tim McCann — semi-fun, completely useless fact: he teaches at my college — in the film, a story of one troubled boy’s (Krause) overbearing “visions of a rabbit that he killed when he was nine years old.” Things only get worse when, along with “other imaginary characters,” the rabbit begins “pushing him over the edge and luring him into one last fatal act of revenge.” (The senior thespian will be seen as his father.

Public Enemies (Universal) Johnny Depp portrays legendary Depression-era bank robber John Dillinger in co- writer/director Michael Mann’s take on America’s first “Public Enemy Number One.” Like many big studio releases today, Public Enemies has it all: A-list talent before and behind the camera, but lacks a heart or soul that allows its audience to connect with it. Film plays out like a “true crime” TV show with re-enactments of famous events cast with top actors and shot by the best technicians in the business, with little, if any, character or story development to hold it together in between. A real disappointment from one of our finest filmmakers and finest actors. The lone standout: the great character actor Stephen Lang as a hard-eyed lawman who’s seen a lot, but manages to retain a tiny piece of his heart. For a better take on the same subject,...

Whenever I hear anything about Aaron Stanford, it’s usually because he’s on one of those “(Insert Number) Actors to Watch in (Insert Year)” lists. This is not for nothing; he’s very talented. Though not every movie I’ve seen him in has been outstanding (the last two X-Men movies weren’t exactly Academy darlings), he puts everything he has into a role.
Such is the case for his performance in Runaway, a 2005 indie thriller about Michael, a young man who runs away with his little brother Dylan to protect him from their abusive father. They hide out in a shoddy motel room, and Michael works at a nearby convenience store to make ends meet. He tries to take care of Dylan the best he can on a bodega clerk’s paycheck, but things are stressful. Being on the run and all, Michael can’t let his little...

The covers for several assorted DVDs we’ve told you about over the past few weeks have recently cropped up, and we figured we’d show them to you all in one place (i.e., below the cut). A new title has come up as well: Lost Treasure Of The Grand Canyon, a Sci Fi Channel creature feature that Anchor Bay releases May 26.
In that movie, Shannen Doherty and Michael Shanks star as two of a group of archaeological researchers who travel deep into the titular natural landmark in search of the father of Doherty’s character. There they encounter not only an ancient tribe that likes to dabble in human sacrifice, but a mythical monster that also enjoys snacking on people. With no special features announced, the disc retails for $19.97.

Fango got the tip that Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release the psychological thriller The Poker Club on DVD. It’s the first produced film based on a novel by genre author Ed Gorman.
Directed by Nowhere Man’s Tim McCann and scripted by actor Johnathon Schaech and Cemetery Dance founder/editor Richard Chizmar (who also penned Masters Of Horror’s The Washingtonians, Fear Itself’S Eater and the upcoming Stephen King film From A Buick 8), the movie stars Schaech, Anacondas: The Hunt For The Blood Orchid’s Johnny Messner, Loren Dean and Michael Risley as four friends who are interrupted by a burglar one night during their weekly card game. They accidentally kill the intruder, and their attempts to cover up the crime only make things worse for them. The cast also includes Judy Reyes, Lori Heuring and Jana Kramer (the latter two of whom also appeared opposite...

T.H.E.M.E. Entertainment has enlisted indie film director Tim McCann to helm a remake of the 1946 film Angel on My Shoulder about a mobster who has a few days to redeem himself. The film will be produced by Todd Baker, who also has written the screenplay, which won a 2002 bronze award at WorldFest Houston. Attorney and producers rep Greg Bernstein will handle sales of the project. McCann's credits include Revolution #9, Desolation Angels and the upcoming Runaway Boys.

Exploring a potentially fascinating subject with only mixed success, Tim McCann's film charts the mental disintegration of a young man lapsing into schizophrenia. Unlike the similarly themed "A Beautiful Mind", which used trickery to bring the audience into the distorted mental realm of its protagonist, "Revolution #9" is a straightforward attempt to illustrate the devastating effects of the disease on both its victim and those close to him. The film is playing an exclusive theatrical engagement at New York's Quad Cinema.
When we first meet James (Michael Risley), he is a twenty-something man from the Midwest now living in New York and estranged from his family. He's engaged to the lovely, perky Kim (Adrienne Shelly), a waitress whose family is less than enthralled by the news of the coming nuptials. Their concern soon becomes well-grounded: James begins acting strangely, accusing his co-workers of moving things around in his desk and Kim's young nephew of using the Internet to try and control his mind. He soon thinks that all media are conspiring against him, particularly a trendy, stylized television commercial for a perfume dubbed Rev 9. He even tracks down the commercial's director, Scooter (Spalding Gray), who turns out to be an egotistic photographer desperate for attention. Eventually, a desperate Kim attempts to get James much-needed medical attention, only to find herself embroiled in the bureaucracy of the mental health and insurance systems.
The director keeps the tension at a fairly intense level throughout and effectively uses a range of photographic tricks and sound effects to convey the deepening effects of James' illness. Unfortunately, the film is less persuasive on a dramatic level. Although we are given a disturbing portrait of the labyrinth of the medical system, we never get a sense of who James was before the onset of his illness, with the result that his ensuing mental degeneration registers less forcefully than it should. And while his resulting symptoms are rendered with an admirable restraint, their depiction lacks emotional resonance. The characterizations and dialogue lack depth or complexity, with the ironic exception of Scooter, who, as perfectly portrayed by Gray, becomes more vivid in his insecurities and neuroses than the central character for all his delusions.
Risley, without resorting to overblown histrionics, does a skillful, chilling job of conveying his character's worsening mental condition, and Shelly is quite moving as the increasingly helpless Kim.
