The Traitors has been renewed for a third season by the BBC in the UK before the second has even aired.
Studio Lambert’s smash format hosted by Claudia Winkleman has already opened up casting for Season 3 and will likely air towards the backend of next year or early the following one. Season 2 will air soon, with scheduling coming in due course.
The BAFTA-winning guessing game format sees 22 strangers aim to win up to £120,000. Three ‘traitors’ are given the opportunity to ‘murder’ contestants, while remaining ‘faithfuls’ have to smoke them out, and the group compete in daily challenges to keep the prize fund steady.
Last year’s first season was a runaway hit, praised for its diverse casting, scheduling and ability to provide ‘watercooler’ moments. A second U.S. series, which airs on Peacock with celebrities, will also air shortly. Distributor All3Media International has struck a wealth of deals for...

The BBC is staying 100% loyal to “The Traitors.”
The public broadcaster officially greenlit a second season of the smash hit reality series, which is the biggest entertainment launch for the BBC in two years. Casting is now open for the next competition.
“The Traitors,” which aired in December, has had 34 million views on BBC streaming service iPlayer. The Studio Lambert-produced show was the biggest new series for young audiences across all BBC titles last year, and the highest rating new entertainment series on the public broadcaster since at least 2017 for young audiences.
Referencing her legendary knitwear on Season 1, host Claudia Winkleman said: “I can’t wait to go back to the castle to watch people play the greatest game on television. I’m knitting a high funnel sweater immediately.”
Kalpna Patel-Knight, head of entertainment at the BBC, says: “Last year’s ambitious and bingeable hit ‘The Traitors’ with Claudia...

Alan Carr has landed his first primetime quiz show for the BBC, a picture format in which contestants correctly identify images.
The RuPaul’s Drag Race UK judge is hosting Picture Slam from Ben Shephard and Ed De Burgh’s Triple Brew Media and Omg Scotland.
Teams will be presented with a board full of images that they need to correctly identify against the clock. If they clear a full board with correct answers for a ‘Picture Slam’ they’ll receive a cash bonus. Only the team who makes it to the final will take home any of their banked cash and, if they can find all the required pictures, they’ll take home the jackpot of up to £10,000.
Filming begins at the new Pacific Quay Studios in Glasgow later this year.
Carr has never hosted a BBC Saturday quiz before and the news will throw doubts over the future...

NBCUniversal and the BBC have ordered U.S. and U.K. versions respectively of Studio Lambert’s hit Dutch psychological adventure format “The Traitors.”
Contestants in the game move into a castle and work as a team to complete a series of challenging missions to earn money for the prize pot. But three of the contestants are secretly traitors, who will attempt to deceive and manipulate their way to the prize by eliminating loyal contestants.
The Dutch version was created by Marc Pos, developed by All3Media’s Idtv & Rtl Creative Unit and produced by Idtv. It launched in March this year on Netherlands commercial broadcaster RTL4 and was a ratings hit, attracting a 43% share of 25-54 year olds and 50% share of 16-24 year olds. A second series was ordered and has also been picked up by Vtm in Belgium.
All3Media International is distributing the format worldwide.

NBCUniversal and the BBC are searching for the next wave of unscripted after striking a transatlantic partnership.
The U.S. media group, which operates broadcast network NBC, a slew of cable networks and streamer Peacock, and the British public broadcaster have teamed up to find unscripted shows that can work both in the States and UK.
The pair will hunt for shows produced by British producers across unscripted genres and will look to co-commission pilots or develop projects with series potential.
They have agreed terms for producers, based on the BBC’s existing terms, which will be a boon for producers as the BBC has much more favorable terms that U.S. networks. Diversity will also be a key part of the decision-making process.
NBC has also remade a number of BBC formats including The Wheel, The Weakest Link and Dragon’s Den, while the BBC has remade NBC’s The Wall.

BBC is rebooting its famed quiz show “The Weakest Link” with host Romesh Ranganathan and a line-up of celebrity contestants.
The show, a BBC Studios Entertainment production, will return to BBC One with 12 episodes of 45 minutes each, filmed in Glasgow, Scotland. Celebrities will need to answer a variety of general knowledge questions in the quick-fire quiz before two are left to go head to head — all in aid of their chosen charity.
“The Weakest Link” first aired in 2000 with acerbic host Anne Robinson (who has recently been appointed the first female presenter of Channel 4’s “Countdown”) and members of the general public as contestants. Robinson gained a reputation for her vitriolic put-downs.
The show became one of the BBC’s most successful formats, eventually airing in over 100 countries worldwide, including the U.S. In the U.S., “Glee” alum Jane Lynch is currently hosting a revival version.

Welcome my friends, to the stories that always end…usually in a tidy 15 or 20 minutes to be precise. Yes, we’re back in anthology land with a title that became Amicus’ modus operandi (and money makers) for the next decade, Dr. Terror’s House of Horrors (1965). While this isn’t my favorite Amicus omnibus (it’s still good!), it is their first and credit shall be paid.
Released Stateside in late February by Paramount, Dr. Terror’s House of Horrors did very well with audiences, giving Amicus a reliable hook for their future releases; while they didn’t focus solely on portmanteaus (they released The Skull the same year), those did become what they were known for.
And rightly so; Dr. Terror sets up a formula that works: well known horror actors in short bursts of terror and humor, easy to digest. This one starts us off on a British passenger train...

(See previous post: Fourth of July Movies: Escapism During a Weird Year.) On the evening of the Fourth of July, besides fireworks, fire hazards, and Yankee Doodle Dandy, if you're watching TCM in the U.S. and Canada, there's the following: Peter H. Hunt's 1776 (1972), a largely forgotten film musical based on the Broadway hit with music by Sherman Edwards. William Daniels, who was recently on TCM talking about 1776 and a couple of other movies (A Thousand Clowns, Dodsworth), has one of the key roles as John Adams. Howard Da Silva, blacklisted for over a decade after being named a communist during the House Un-American Committee hearings of the early 1950s (Robert Taylor was one who mentioned him in his testimony), plays Benjamin Franklin. Ken Howard is Thomas Jefferson, a role he would reprise in John Huston's 1976 short Independence. (In the short, Pat Hingle was cast as John Adams; Eli Wallach was Benjamin Franklin.) Warner...
