The BBC have launched this year’s appeal with a sketch featuring Alex Jones, Alison Hammond, Davina McCall, Gemma Collins, Dame Joan Collins, Jonathan Bailey, Nick Grimshaw, Rosie Jones and Simon Cowell, which you can see below:

It’s the beginning, but the moment has been prepared for. The three recent Anniversary specials have eased us into another new era of Doctor Who more gently than we’re used to – yes, this is Ncuti Gatwa’s first time taking centre stage as the Fifteenth Doctor, but we’re at least a little familiar with him thanks to his bi-generational appearance in “The Giggle”. The wonderful thing about ‘The Church on Ruby Road’, the first full episode of Doctor Who with Ncuti Gatwa as the title character, is how it manages to be both brilliantly new and brilliantly familiar all at the same time. Every face on screen is new to us: Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor, who we’d previously glimpsed for just ten minutes or so at the end of the recent 60th anniversary specials. Millie Gibson’s companion, Ruby Sunday, and her family. The goblin baddies. Anita Dobson’s nosey neighbour. Davina McCall. This is all new to us.
And yet? It’s a handsome, dashing man in a long coat, running around being far cleverer than everyone else. He’s thwarting monsters with his dazzling brain and quipping away, and he’s also warm and emotional and funny, and he’s making friends with a plucky young girl who he can explain things to,...

No medium understands the terrifying potential of TV quite like film does. That’s right: countless horror movies have paid homage to the spooky possibilities of their industry’s smaller screen little brother over the years. Movies like Poltergeist, Halloween III: Season of the Witch, and The Ring all recognize that a television set is a powerful, scary totem.
A TV set is a device that families have placed in their living rooms for decades, passively welcoming in all manner of signals, blithely trusting that evil somehow won’t piggyback its way on them. Still, for much of television’s early years, there wasn’t a ton of great horror series to speak of (aside from the truly iconic like The Twilight Zone). That has all changed now.

A documentary on the legal woes between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard headlines the new spring lineup from U.K. broadcaster Channel 4.
At the channel’s Content Showcase in London, chief content officer Ian Katz unveiled a slate of “purposeful, provocative but never predictable” programming that he hopes will get people “thinking, arguing and asking questions about the world in which we live.”

Argonon CEO James Burstall was prompted to write his new crisis management book “The Flexible Method: Prepare to Prosper in the Next Global Crisis” by the Covid-19 pandemic, when the TV industry – like much of the world – came to a grinding halt almost exactly three years ago. Shows including “The Masked Singer U.K.,” which is produced by Argonon subsidiary Bandicoot and usually filmed in front of a live audience, found themselves jeopardy.
But the seeds for the book were sown a decade or so earlier, during the 2008 “credit crunch.” Then, Burstall was the CEO of Leopard Films, which he had founded in 2001 following stints at Oxford University and Stanford and a transitory career in journalism working for Vanity Fair and London’s Evening Standard newspaper. Leopard was chugging along nicely, pumping out hits such as BBC daytime staple “Cash in the Attic,” when disaster struck for the first time. Fuelled by the sub-prime mortgage crisis,...

David Letterman has called out Tom Cruise for skipping the 2023 Oscars, arguing that the actor “should’ve been there”.
The Top Gun: Maverick star’s absence at the Academy Awards was announced by emcee Jimmy Kimmel during his opening monologue, in which he made a Scientology joke that he later said would’ve been cut had Cruise been there. Cruise is famously a member of the controversial religion.
Speaking to the late-night host about his successful Oscars broadcast on Wednesday (15 March) night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Letterman asked: “Where was Tom Cruise?”
“We don’t know where Tom Cruise was,” Kimmel answered. “We heard production issues.”
“What does that mean?” Letterman asked, calling it “nonsense”.
“Exactly. It’s very non-specific,” Kimmel agreed. “But we have no idea what happened.”
Letterman added: “Cruise should’ve been there celebrating his jet pack Maverick show”.

Hilarie Burton said her One Tree Hill co-star Chad Michael Murray was one of the few who stood up for her against the show’s creator Mark Schwahn.
Burton and Murray played love interests Peyton Sawyer (Burton) and Lucas Scott (Murray) on the long-running US teen drama.
In 2017, Burton was among the 18 women One Tree Hill cast and crew members who claimed they had been sexually harassed by Schwahn.
The showrunner has never commented on the allegations and was fired from One Tree Hill that same year.
During the most recent episode of the Drama Queens podcast hosted by Burton’s One Tree Hill co-stars Bethany Joy Lenz and Sophia Bush, the actor was asked about her decision not to report Schwahn at the time.
“Oh, I did. I told all sorts of people. Honey, I told everybody,” Burton responded.
“Chad [Michael Murray] walked up and goes, ‘What are you doing?...

In The Romance Retreat (working title), McCall, who also helmed Channel 4’s Language of Love, will oversee a UK country house in which single parents from all walks of life seek true love.
McCall told Stephen Bartlett’s Diary of a CEO podcast several weeks ago that she had pitched the idea to ITV.

In an Instagram post in the past few minutes, McCall wrote that the show will be for “single parents who have lived a life, have stories to tell about their dating pasts and deserve another chance at love.

The Masked Singer has unveiled yet another celebrity hiding underneath an extravagant costume.
On Saturday (28 January), Pigeon was revealed to be Katherine Ryan.
The comedian and actor gave a total of three performances in the bird disguise, styled with a cardigan, pearls and a handbag with cats printed on the outside.
Ultimately, the judging panel chose not to keep her in the competition on the latest episode after her rendition of the Cheryl hit, “Fight For This Love”.
Before the unmasking, guesses for Pigeon’s identity included Emily Atack, Gemma Collins and Stacey Solomon.
When Ryan eventually revealed herself, the audience and the judging panel applauded and appeared shocked.
“That accent was so good!” said a stunned Davina McCall, referring to the Canadian comic’s use of a Cockney accent to disguise her own voice.
Discussing the inclusion of a cauliflower and mint sauce in her video package, Ryan said:...

The Masked Singer UK is back for a fourth season, welcoming a new cast of 12 incognito celebrities.
On Sunday (1 January), the top-secret singing series, which sees a number of celebrities dressed in oversized costumes to hide their identity, returned to ITV.
During the opening episode, Cat and Mouse, a duo act, were among the first batch of competitors to perform for the judges by Irving Berlin.
Who are Cat and Mouse?
The clues revealed in the first episode included the number 200,000,000 written on a notepad.
Cat said he was “no stranger to legalities” and liked to “get to the bottom of cases”, as well as knowing “how to spin a tale”. The Vt also showed five different jars of spices lined up.
So far, fans have speculated that the duo could be Spice Girl Emma Bunton and partner Jade Jones. Others have their suspicions that the furry duo are married couple Shirlie and Martin Kemp.

The Masked Singer is back on our screens, turning the nation into at-home detectives as they try to figure out who this year’s celebrity contestants are.
The singing competition series, in which celebrities compete anonymously behind giant anthropomorphic costumes, returned on New Year’s Day, with the first group of contestants all performing.
Among the group was Phoenix, who was shown in their Vt standing within a grand castle and explaining in a posh accent that “I am rather hot, aren’t I?”
“Fire” by Kasabian then played as Phoenix said that they had risen from the ashes and been “born anew” and “reincarnated”.
They also said that they were good with “mysteries” and “following a trail”, while Phoenix was shown inspecting foot prints with a magnifying glass.
Phoenix’s first performance was a jazz version of “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk. While performing, they sang with an American accent.

As has become customary in January, The Masked Singer is back on our screens to kick off the year in chaotic fashion.
Joel Dommett takes charge of proceedings once again as 13 celebrities dressed in creative disguises show off their vocals every weekend on ITV.
The audience at home and in the studio are not the only ones guessing their identities, however. Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall, Rita Ora and Jonathan Ross are the judging panel, determining who progresses to the next stages of the competition.
After the first episode, Ghost was unveiled as football star Chris Kamara, and became the season’s first eliminated contestant.
Among the costumes competing this time around are Phoenix, Knitting, Jellyfish and Jacket Potato.
However, one of the most amusing identities in store for this season is Rubbish – a green refuse bin with bottles and cans emerging from the top.
