CBS is continuing to fill out its roster for the 2024-25 season.
The network has picked up two of its Monday night staples, The Neighborhood and NCIS, for next season. The renewals will take The Neighborhood into its seventh season and NCIS to its 22nd. With Young Sheldon ending this season, The Neighborhood will also become CBS’ longest-running current comedy series.
The pickups for NCIS and The Neighborhood come hours after CBS renewed its FBI franchise — including a three-season order for the flagship series — for next season. The network has also renewed Fire Country, Ghosts, and first-year dramas NCIS: Sydney and Tracker for next season. The second half of Blue Bloods‘ final season is also set to air in the fall.

“NCIS” and “The Neighborhood” have both been renewed at CBS.
The renewal will bring “NCIS” to its 22nd season, while “The Neighborhood” will be back for its seventh season. Both shows currently air on Mondays on the broadcast network.
“’The Neighborhood’ and ‘NCIS’ are the very best definition of a CBS comedy and drama,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “They embody authentic storytelling with heart, humor, and family dynamics. We are proud to bring them back next season.”
“NCIS” has long been a cornerstone of the CBS scripted lineup. Per CBS, the series is still averaging 12.9 million multiplatform viewers, even this late in its run. The show serves as the foundation for a TV franchise that continues to pay off for CBS and parent company Paramount. CBS also currently airs “NCIS: Hawaii” while “NCIS: Sydney” airs on Paramount+ and CBS. CBS is also at work on a prequel...

“There was always going to be pressure to make it special,” admits The Neighborhood executive producer Bill Martin about the landmark half hour for the sitcom that explores two racially diverse families living side-by-side in a predominantly Black neighborhood in Pasadena, California. “It had to have something meaty for each of our characters, and it needed guest stars, and it had to have emotional weight to it. And it had to be fun.” Leave it to someone very close to the show to concoct the perfect story: Cedric the Entertainer, who plays cantankerous Calvin Butler and is also an executive producer. “Cedric pitched the idea of roping in our friends at The Talk,” says Martin, who was instantly on board with the idea. The Neighborhood and The Talk crossover commences on Monday, April 10 at 8/7c on CBS with a desperate Calvin wanting to wow loving wife Tina (Tichina Arnold) with the perfect birthday present since,...

CBS yesterday canceled two sophomore series including The Unicorn, one of the best reviewed broadcast comedy series to debut in the past two years.
The single-camera half-hour, created by Bill Martin, Mike Schiff and Grady Cooper, attracted Walton Goggins in his first ever major role on an ongoing broadcast series. He was surrounded by a strong ensemble that included Rob Corddry, Michaela Watkins, Omar Miller and Maya Lynne Robinson and equally impressive recurring cast led by Betsy Brandt, Natalie Zea and Sarayu R. Blue.
Following CBS’ decision not to order a third season, Schiff, who executive produced and co-showran the series with Martin, as well as Watkins took to Twitter to thank fans.
“Producers often say they have the best casts in the world, but all the rest are lying – we truly did,” Schiff wrote.
Watkins, who retweeted Schiff’s post, made a joke about the show’s unconventional title.

CBS has started to pare down its returning series slate for next season, cancelling comedy The Unicorn‘s after two seasons. It is one two sophomore series the network won’t be bringing back, along with drama All Rise. Two other CBS bubble series, Seal Team and Clarice, are eying a move to Paramount+.
From the get-go, the single-camera Unicorn, starring Walton Goggins, has been, well, an unicorn, on CBS, not quite fitting into the network’s traditional sitcom mold.
Yet, the series, which was well received by critics and features one of the strongest comedy casts on TV, had big fans at the highest ranks at CBS, which helped it snag a Season 2 renewal last year for a limited midseason run, which concluded in March.
The Unicorn’s linear ratings were among the lowest on CBS but its Live+Same Day delivery was actually higher than that for the renewed S.

Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy can’t be a cheap show to make. This superhero story is based on an ambitious, colorful comic book series by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá and as such it features big action setpieces, depictions of superpowers, and even a talking chimp or two.
Still it’s hard to imagine any portion of The Umbrella Academy’s budget is larger than the music clearance department. The series features a moody score from Jeff Russo but also a truly stunning amount of pop hits. The Umbrella Academy made its musical intentions clear in its first episode with the now-beloved dance scene set to Tiffany’s “I Think We’re Alone Now.” And the show’s investment in soundtrack and music has only grown from there.
“Music is such an important thing to me and I really take time to pick the songs,” showrunner Steve Blackman says.

CBS has made its new comedy series picks, giving orders to the four most buzzed about pilots: Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins’ Carol’s Second Act, starring Patricia Heaton; Chuck Lorre’s Bob Hearts Abishola, headlined by Billy Gardell; Alex Herschlag and Jennie Snyder Urman’s Broke, starring Jaime Camil and Pauley Perrette; and Bill Martin and Mike Schiff’s The Unicorn, headlined by Walton Goggins.
This marks the return to CBS of two stars of successful comedy series on the network, Heaton, who was on Everybody Loves Raymond, and Gardell, one of the stars of Lorre’s Mike & Molly, as well as of NCIS fan favorite Perrette.
Both Carol’s Second Act and The Unicorn come from Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, which also has freshman CBS comedy series The Neighborhood, already renewed for next season, and bubble CBS comedy series Life In Pieces and Fam. It gives Kapital...

CBS has ordered seven pilots to series for the 2019-20 season ahead of its upfront presentation to advertisers next week. The seven series are made up of four comedies and three dramas.
Among the comedies ordered at the broadcast network are Chuck Lorre’s “Bob Hearts Abishola,” Patricia Heaton’s “Carol’s Second Act” and “Broke” from “Jane the Virgin” creator Jennie Snyder Urman. The Peyton Reed-produced “The Unicorn” with Walton Goggins and Rob Corddry was also picked up.
Heaton starred on CBS’ “Everybody Loves Raymond” and “Broke” will see “NCIS” star Pauley Perrette return to the network. The pickups will maintain Lorre’s — who already has “Mom” and “Young Sheldon” coming back next season — strong relationship with the network, after “The Big Bang Theory” says farewell next week.

Walton Goggins has been cast in the lead role of the CBS comedy pilot “The Unicorn,” Variety has learned.
Goggins will play a recent widower and devoted father to two adolescent girls. The character is described as a big-hearted open-book of a guy, but without his wife, he’s finding himself at sea. When his friends persuade him to start dating again, he discovers to his shock that he’s kind of a hot commodity, if only he knew what the hell he was doing.
The project was originally a multi-cam comedy but will now be a single-cam.
This marks the second year in a row that Goggins will star in a CBS pilot. Last year, he was one of the leads in the network’s planned adaptation of the James Ellroy novel “La Confidential.” That pilot was said to be well-received but ultimately considered too dark for the broadcaster.
