Beta Film has sold more than 100 hours of drama series to PBS Distribution-backed Walter Presents for the U.S., and Channel 4-backed Walter Presents for the U.K.
Five seasons of Italy’s gritty crime series “Rocco Schiavone” as well as Canadian mystery dramas “The Wall – The Chateau Murder” and “The Wall – The Orchard” will be available in both territories.
Included in the package of series for the U.S. only is the historical period drama “House of Promises.”
Among the titles bound for the U.K. only are the Spanish thriller “You Shall Not Lie,” and the Croatian-Ukrainian co-production “The Silence.”

With Italian drama TV enjoying its own golden moment, new free- and pay-tv deals have been struck for two popular series from pubcaster Rai. “Rocco Schiavone,” which has already been bought by Starz in the U.S., and “The Hunter,” which was in competition at Canneseries, have sold in a raft of territories.
Based on the bestselling novels by Antonio Manzini, “Rocco Schiavone” follows the irascible deputy police chief of the title after he is posted to a remote Alpine region. Season 2 of the show launched recently on Rai 2.
Fox has snagged the pay-tv rights to the series in Germany, and pubcaster Ard has picked up the free-tv rights. AMC has the show for its networks in Latin America and Orf for free-tv in Austria. Deals in a total of 75 territories were sealed by Beta Film, which is handling distribution for both “Rocco Schiavone” and “The Hunter.”

Starz has struck a trio of MipTV drama deals, snapping up buzzy international scripted series “La Zona,” out of Spain, Italian crime series “Rocco Schiavone,” and German period epic “Maximilian and Marie de Bourgogne.”
Germany-based Beta Film distributes the series and struck the deal with the U.S. premium cabler. Company Evp Oliver Bachert said: “We are more than delighted that Starz acquired these series and we hope their audience will embrace the addition of new international high-end drama.”
“La Zona” was a landmark drama in Spain as Telefonica’s first homegrown original. It follows events after a Fukushima-like disaster and a spate of gruesome killings that follow.
