Began her career as a child dancer with The Megland Kiddies.
Born Mariska Megyzsi, to Hungarian parents. Her father was a violin maker, who had moved to New York in 1910.
Under contract at Fox from 1930 to 1931, subsequently with Warners. First attracted attention dancing the 'Breakaway' in Fox's Movietone Follies of 1929.
