If you like movies about empty-headed dips and their resentful families, then National Lampoon's "Vacation" movies certainly have you covered. Clark Griswold, played by Chevy Chase, is an exemplar -- perhaps the Ur-example -- of a clueless dad obsessed with fulfilling the typical American suburban dream despite a general lack of wit or competence. Clark claims to be an expert in everything, assuring his family that everything will be fine, and yet he displays no acumen or skill, and his family repeatedly witnesses him fail. We sympathize with Clark, however, as many of his failings are the result of bad luck; Clark isn't very good at traversing the daily onus of trivial nonsense, but the world seems cosmically hellbent on punishing him for his incompetence.

Can’t see the lines, can ya, Russ? It wasn’t just Chevy Chase and his video camera that wanted a glimpse of Beverly D’Angelo in the shower in National Lampoon’s Vacation, but also her onscreen son, Anthony Michael Hall, who recently fessed up to trying to sneak a peek while she filmed her brief nude scene.
Attending Fan Expo Chicago (via EW) with fellow castmates D’Angelo, Randy Quaid (Cousin Eddie), Dana Barron (Audrey Griswold), and Christie Brinkley (the unforgettable Girl in Red Ferrari), Hall – who was just 14 while filming National Lampoon’s Vacation – was called out by his onscreen sister for once trying to spy on D’Angelo. Hall cut her off, saying, “So, I got busted because I tried to sneak onto the set when Beverly was doing the shower scene.” D’Angelo seems to take it all in stride, though, saying, “I get a lot of guys who...

It's undeniable that the films in the National Lampoon's "Vacation" franchise have become comedy classics. The misadventures of the Griswold family of patriarch Clark (Chevy Chase), wife Ellen (Beverly D'Angelo), daughter Audrey (Dana Barron/Dana Hill/Juliette Lewis/Marisol Nichols/Leslie Mann), son Rusty (Anthony Michael Hall/Jason Lively/Johnny Galecki/Ethan Embry/Ed Helms), and cousin Eddie (Randy Quaid) have become seminal watches for multiple generations, and remain endlessly quotable after nearly 40 years.
The Griswolds were a relatable look at the average, white, middle-class American family, replacing the Norman Rockwell-esque presentation of yesteryear with more authentic and unconventional problems sprinkled throughout. Okay, so maybe we don't all know what it's like to lose our Great Aunt and have to strap her to the top of the car with the luggage in the rain, but we probably know what it feels like to expect a Christmas bonus but get...

Christmas is coming at us faster than Santa’s sleigh, which means ’tis the season for streaming Christmas movies. While there are plenty of family-friendly options for parents — from classics like “A Charlie Brown Christmas” to new entries like this year’s “Spirited” on Apple TV+ — some may prefer a slightly more raunchy selection, which is where 1989’s “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” comes in.
“Christmas Vacation” is streaming on several online platforms, including HBO Max, AMC+, The Roku Channel, fuboTV, Philo, and Sling TV. It can also be rented or purchased on VOD platforms, including YouTube, Vudu, Google Play, Apple TV, and Redbox, for 3.99. In addition, AMC will air the film throughout the next few days at 8 or 10 p.m. Et, including on December 21, December 22, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.

Prior to his film career, John Hughes worked in advertising and wrote comedic short stories on the side to flex his creative muscles (via The New York Times). One of Hughes' shorts, "Vacation '58," was published by National Lampoon Magazine in 1979, and then adapted into the 1983 film "National Lampoon's Vacation." The film earned 61 million and introduced the world to the shenanigans of The Griswold family. A second film in the series, "National Lampoon's European Vacation," was less successful, but Hollywood remained interested in Hughes' Griswold tales, especially one that centered on Christmas.
After producing the first two films in the franchise, executive producer Matty Simmons told Rolling Stone in a 2020 retrospective that he turned his attention to another Hughes short, "Christmas '59." In 1989, "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" became the most successful Griswold film (earning 74 million worldwide), despite being the last of the franchise, and continues to spawn loads of holiday...

Longtime character actor Ernie Lively, whose acting career spanned five decades and included roles in such films as “Turner & Hooch,” “Passenger 57” and the “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” films, in which he played the father of his daughter Blake Lively’s character, has died, according to a representative for Lively. It does kind of feel as though Jason Lively might have stepped onto the screen and then stepped right back off doesn’t it? Well to be fair his stint as Rusty Griswold was probably one of his bigger and more noticeable roles, but seeing as how National Lampoon’s European Vacation is still one of those that people don’t happen to think was that great it’s easier to say that his other contributions to show business were a little more well-received, even if they didn’t get him as much attention. Catching up with the older actors that at one point were

Fred Dekker, the writer and director of the 1986 horror film Night of the Creeps, is planning a sequel that will bring back the original cast! That cast of the original film includes Jason Lively, Steve Marshall, Jill Whitlow, Allan Kayser, and Tom Atkins.
The news about Night of the Creeps 2 came from Tom Atkins during an interview with JoBlo. He said:
“I would like to see Detective Ray Cameron become resurrected somehow. And Fred Dekker and I, every time we see each other, we talk about that. And he's determined to do a sequel with the three kids and myself. I mean they're no longer kids, they're all in their 50's, but they're all still kicking and healthy and looking good. I would love to do that again. I love Detective Ray Cameron.”
It would be pretty cool if this film project actually ended up happening. I love the idea...

Fred Dekker, writer and director of this fun-loving and enjoyably-daft B-movie homage, had a strangely short career as a director. Oddly though, he is responsible for two films that I, and many others, really love. Night of the Creeps being one of them, and the other one being a Halloween-staple for me, 1987’s The Monster Squad. Dekker wrote the script in just a week for this film, and it is a good script that in many ways feels ahead of its time. It’s quite unusual how little credit Dekker has received for his work (his only other feature film is Robocop 3) because two of his films are cult favourites, and truly entertaining slices of horror fun. A definite inspiration to many similar films that would follow through the years,...

Where do I even begin talking about my love for Night of the Creeps? Writer/director Fred Dekker, a monster kid from way back, was a successful screenwriter when he got to finally direct a movie. He was only about 26 at the time, but the movie plays like the work of a guy who has waited his entire life to make a movie. He packs it top to bottom with all the things he loves and includes every shot he's dreamed of composing, from the Jaws zoom in/dolly out to the first appearance of hard-boiled Tom Atkins, shot from a high angle looking down through a ceiling fan. He doesn't direct Night of the Creeps like he's trying to prove something; he directs it like he's only going to get one chance to make a movie and...

Other attendees announced for Fbw 2019 include Lance Henriksen, Virginia Madsen, Ted Raimi, Heather Langenkamp, Amanda Wyss, Lisa Wilcox, Tuesday Knight, Alicia Witt, Cerina Vincent, and Return of the Living Dead 3’s Melinda Clarke.

“What I’m going to need is your standard flame thrower”.
Night Of The Creeps screens Midnights this weekend (March 9th and 10th) at The Moolah Theater and Lounge (3821 Lindell Blvd, St. Louis, Mo 63108) as part of Destroy the Brain’s monthly Late Nite Grindhouse film series.
Writer/director Fred Dekker’s Night Of The Creeps is all about little, parasitic aliens that take over human bodies and turn them into deadly zombies. This is a big pain in the backside for Chris Romero (Jason Lively), who is finally getting a chance to woo Cynthia (Jill Whitlow), a girl he has fallen in love with. With gruff Detective Cameron (Tom Atkins) trying to figure out what’s going on as bodies start to, apparently, wander off on their own it’s not long until the living have to band together to keep the living dead at bay.

“Well, girls, I’ve got good news and bad news. The good news is your dates are here.”
“What’s the bad news?”
“They’re dead.”
Now that’s dialogue that will echo throughout eternity. Thirty years ago today a film was unleashed on a populace that merely shrugged at its existence. Too weird to thrive at the time, Night Of The Creeps has gone on to become something of a cult classic with its weird blending of ’50s creature feature, ’60s zombie film, and ’80s culture. It’s very exciting to see ambition in the world of horror. Yes, pleasure can and always will be derived from one more well formed slice of the blade or swing of the axe. However, occasionally a filmmaker comes on the scene overflowing with imagination and verve, a need to spew forth fresh ideas, or at the very least, a new take on a haggard trope. And then you have Fred Dekker, who decided for his first feature to include everything he loved about exploitation, horror and sci-fi, into one glorious, hearty stew that bafflingly flew under the radar at the time of its release. And like a good stew, the more it simmers, the sweeter the taste. 30 years later, Night of the Creeps (1986) will fill you up and have you begging for more.

Special Mention: Battle Royale
Written and directed by Kinji Fukasaku
Japan, 2000
The concept of The Hunger Games owes much to Koushun Takami’s cult novel Battle Royale, adapted for the cinema in 2000 by Kinji Fukasaku. The film is set in a dystopian alternate-universe, in Japan, with the nation utterly collapsed, leaving 15 percent unemployed and 800,000 students boycotting school. The government passes something called the Millennium Educational Reform Act, which apparently provides for a class of ninth-graders to be chosen each year and pitted against one another on a remote island for 3 days. Each student is given a bag with a randomly selected weapon and a few rations of food and water, and sent off to kill each other in a no-holds-barred fight to the death. With 48 contestants, only one will go home alive. Yes, this has been often cited as the original Hunger Games; whether or not Suzanne Collins borrowed heavily...

Tradition dictates that Ed Helms be recast as Rusty Griswold should Warner Bros. move ahead with another Vacation movie. The charcter was played by Anthony Michael Hall in National Lampoon’s Vacation, Jason Lively in European Vacation, Johnny Galecki in Christmas Vacation, and Ethan Embry in Vegas Vacation. There was even a Vacation short film called Hotel Hell that featured Travis Greer as Clark’s son. If this does in deed happen, however, Helms wouldn’t be too happy. Yahoo Movies caught up with the actor while he was out promoting the latest Vacation to ask him some questions posed by fans on social media. Night of the Creeps
Writer/Director: Fred Dekker
1986, USA
Otherwise titled, “Finding Value within an 80s B-Movie Horror.” Night of the Creeps (available currently on Netflix) kicks off the first Halloween Tombstone Tuesday, aka Zombie/Back From the Dead flicks. Although the film maintains the standard plot line, dialogue and scenario, it manages to add to the genre of 80s B-Movie Horror films. Maybe not appreciated at its release because horror, science fiction, and thrillers were on the rise with the new animatronic, technical advancements. It still adds to our historical idea of where movies were at in the 80s, and how have they progressed since? And movies like Night of the Creeps offer a comparison between the hits of the 80s such as John Carpenters The Thing or Ridley Scott’s Alien.
Upon reflection, 80s B-Movie Horror films share similar characteristics, one in particular being cheesy one-liners. Other characteristics might also be Kurt Russell,...

Ryan Reynolds finished off a full day of promoting Turbo - after showing off his Skee-Ball skills on the Today show - with the film's premiere in NY on Tuesday night. Blake Lively was there to show support for her husband, though she walked the red carpet solo, looking gorgeous in Burberry. She was joined on the black carpet by her brother, Jason Lively, and his two children. Ryan's costars for the animated flick were also on hand, including Ken Jeong, Michelle Rodriguez, and Paul Giamatti. There are more red carpets on the way for Ryan, who has comedy R.I.P.D. premiering on July 19, just two days after Turbo. View Slideshow ›...

Ladies and gentlemen: Meet the new Mrs. Griswold. Former co-star Christina Applegate is in discussions to join New Line.s Vacation remake-reboot project, according to The Hollywood Reporter. She would be cast opposite The Hangover standout Ed Helms, who.ll actually be playing Rusty Griswold in the new film. The role was originated by Anthony Michael Hall in Harold Ramis. 1983 comedy, though Jason Lively, Johnny Galecki, and Ethan Embry played him in the later sequels. Rumors also continue to swirl that Chevy Chase and Beverly D.Angelo are coveted to reprise their roles of Clark and Ellen, Rusty.s clueless parents. One way to help get us excited for a resurrection of the Vacation property is to cast Applegate as Helms. wife, who THR says .may be losing interest in him.. The Married With Children actress is frequently funny on screen, and can hold her own against big-screen partners like...

What, was Anthony Michael Hall not available?
Russell 'Rusty' Griswold is all grown up and looking a lot like Ed Helms as the "Hangover" star will be hitting the holiday road this summer to shoot a new sequel to "National Lampoon's Vacation."
Rusty is, of course, the son of original "Vacation" patriarch Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase), a character played by no less than four different actors in previous "Vacation" installments: Anthony Michael Hall in "Vacation" (1983), Jason Lively in "European Vacation" (1985), Johnny Galecki in "Christmas Vacation" (1989) and Ethan Embry in "Vegas Vacation" (1997). In this new "Vacation," he'll be taking his own family on a road trip that's bound to have a few ... complications.
Writers-directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein revealed the plans to shoot the currently untitled sequel this summer in a recent interview with Collider.

With the release of Jonathan Levine’s Warm Bodies, I decided to compile a list of my favourite films that take a non-traditional approach to the living-dead canon. More specifically, they all blend romance and zombies, in their own unique and twisted ways.
This is the first of what will be a two part article.

Dance of The Dead may seem like another lowbrow, low budget horror film, but in fact, it offers sharp writing, terrific characterizations, likeable performances, and a real affection for geek culture. Imagine the humour of Night of the Living Dorks but powered by the central plot behind Night of the Creeps. Sure Dance uses every rule from the official zombie handbook, but for a movie that seems equally inspired by a John Hughes coming of age flick, Dance of the Dead...

If you’re really missing Community on NBC these days, why not ease off the fast-forward button on the ol’ DVR and feast your eyes upon Chevy Chase in the latest batch of Old Navy commercials! Said nobody, because these commercials are kind of sad. But check them out for yourselves…
You’ve likely already seen this one, “Plug in the Pop,” in which Chevy (as Sparky) fires up the Griswold Family Light-tacular as Beverly D’Angelo and Juliette Lewis roll their eyes behind him in a spoof of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

The prior four articles of the good and ugly in comedy horror, all of it was in the run down to this final part. We’ve looked at Frank Henenlotter, Joe Dante, and an unfathomable number of pratfalls, puns, sarcastic one liners and gore, gore, gore. If you’re favourite comedy horror hasn’t appeared, tell us what it is in the comments section below. Maybe a variation on this article will appear in 12 months with some of those omissions included.

First, it was Footloose.
Then, it was Dirty Dancing.
Now another iconic '80s classic is getting the reboot treatment. John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the duo behind last summer's hit Horrible Bosses, are in talks to take their script for a Vacation reboot into production, reports The Hollywood Reporter. There's been talks of rebooting the Vacation franchise for a few years now.
Daley and Goldstein's Vacation script will serve as a sequel and a reboot to the Chevy Chase franchise, with son Rusty Griswold (Anthony Michael Hall, Jason Lively, Ethan Embry, and Johnny Galecki have all played the character) taking his own family on vacation. Daley and Goldstein are slated to also direct the reboot after original director David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers) exited the project.

The latest list in sound of sights month long look at the greatest horror films ever is taking a different look on the horror genre. There is a very narrow line that divides finding something funny and scary, which is exactly the sort of film this list is celebrating. As a genre there is two ways you can address the comedy horror. The first and the much more popular route is comedy about horror, these films rarely attempt to attain any qualities other than a comedic jibe at the genre. If you were to pick one classic example it would be Young Frankenstein – a film that satirises early horror and Frankenstein in what is close to comedy perfection (the Gene Wilder effect). The contemporary take on the genre has given the world some of the worst films of recent times in the Scary Movie franchise and its brood of mutant off-shoots.

Prepping to do a 25th Anniversary tribute to Night of the Creeps is a dream come true. While every film I have done a retrospective on has been a labor of love, Night of the Creeps is one of my favorites, and I felt pressure to do it right and knock it out of the park. I have never done a dual interview, so this was an opportunity to do something really special. Thankfully, director Fred Dekker and actress Jill Whitlow are as gonzo about the movie as the fans, and they were more than happy to sit down and talk up one of the finest Late Night Classics of all-time.
You can ready my retrospective with Jill Whitlow on Twice Dead here.
Jason Bene: How did you write such an amazing script in such a short period of time?

"The Longest Yard" and "Get Smart" director Pete Segal is being sought to helm the upcoming reboot of classic comedy National Lampoon’s "Vacation” says 24 Frames.
"Horrible Bosses" scribes John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein have finished a second draft of the script. New Line is reportedly eager to get moving on the property and is presently reaching out to potential directors.
The new version centers on the grown-up character of Rusty Griswold, the son character from the series played by the likes of Anthony Michael Hall, Jason Lively, Johnny Galecki and Ethan Embry across the four theatrical 'Vacation' movies.
The aim is for original stars Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo to cameo end of the film when Rusty runs into his parents.

Night Of The Creeps
Directed by Fred Dekker
Screenplay by Fred Dekker
1986, USA
The debut feature by writer/director Fred Dekker is notable as an earnest attempt at a B-movie and a throwback to the genre. Paying tribute to everything from plots, themes and to the filmmakers that created them, Night offers alien parasites, zombies, extra-terrestrials, a sorority house, Prom Night and a 50′s opening prologue involving an axe murder. Dekker goes so far as to pay tribute to his idols by naming every character after a famous filmmaker. There is the love interest, Cynthia Cronenberg, a police sergeant named Raimi, three other characters named Miller, Carpenter, Landis and of course, Detective Cameron, played by Tom Atkins.
Atkins steals the show, delivering the film’s most memorable lines including the classic: ‘I got good news and bad news, girls. The good news is your dates are here. The bad news is they’re dead.

Bruce Campbell is reportedly planning a horror equivalent of The Expendables. If this is the case, who would star in it, and what gory events would take place? Here are Duncan’s suggestions…
Now, news that Bruce Campbell is reportedly planning a horror equivalent of The Expendables is, in itself, enough to make me want to proclaim that the world is a beautiful place, filled with beautiful things, as merely putting just Bruce Campbell in a film is normally enough to get me to watch it. But, let's all calm down for a minute and look a bit closer at the facts.
In a recent interview with the La Times, Mr Campbell was asked about his concept for taking Bruce Vs. Frankenstein (a sequel to 2007's My Name Is Bruce) and making it 'The Expendables of horror'. His reply was: "Yeah, The Expendables, or more like the It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World...

New Line is moving forward with their reboot of the Griswold family Vacation franchise originally starring Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo.
In October 2009, the Warner Bros-based studio hired David Dobkin (The Wedding Crashers) to produce and possibly direct a sequel/restart that would focus on a now adult Rusty Griswold bringing his own family on a vacation.
Variety is reporting that Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley (Sam Weir on “Freaks and Geeks”) have been brought in to write the script. While they’ll acknowledge the adventure depicted in 1983, the characters are taking a new trip to Wally World, this time before the fictional amusement park closes forever.
Chase and D’Angelo are not involved, though New Line hopes to sign them for small roles as the grandparents. No deals for them are in place.

Underwhelming Super Bowl ad (and best-left-unmentioned direct-to-dvd spin-off starring Randy Quaid) aside, the "National Lampoon's Vacation" series remains one of modern comedy's classics. Whatever you may think of Chevy Chase these days -- still a fan over here, and always will be -- the "Saturday Night Live" veteran certainly left his mark with a number of early roles, including suburban Illinois resident Clark W. Griswold.
Well New Line is planning what Variety reports to be a "reboot" of the series, with the focus now on the younger male Griswold, Rusty, who has been played by five different actors over the years: Anthony Michael Hall ("Vacation"), Jason Lively ("European Vacation"), Johnny Galecki ("Christmas Vacation"), Ethan Embry ("Vegas Vacation") and, most recently, Travis Greer ("Hotel Hell Vacation" short film produced by HomeAway). Back in August 1986, two horror movies debuted on the same Friday in New York-area theaters. The film that got more publicity, and that most of the genre fans I knew wanted to see, was The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. But one pal and I were more interested in checking out the one that promised a “Free Creep Prevention Mask” to the first patrons on opening night.
So we paid our admission, were each handed a paper surgical mask with the Night Of The Creeps logo emblazoned on it, took our seats—and enjoyed one of the year’s most surprisingly entertaining fright features, one that homaged practically every subgenre imaginable, yet kept a sure hand on its tone and never descended into spoofery. Those who caught Creeps in its limited theatrical run (during which it played a few cities as Homecoming Night) formed the beginnings of a cult following that...

Horror fans are living in good times. Not because of the glut of remakes and sequels that are permeating our theaters, but because some of our childhood favorites are being revisited, cleaned up and repackaged for the DVD and Blu-Ray formats. Speaking for myself, but I'm sure you'll agree, next to The Monster Squad - which we saw released last year as a special edition presentation - I was clamoring to see Fred Dekker's other '80s cult classic Night of the Creeps resurrected on anything other than my worn-out VHS tape. The wait is over. This week, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment releases Dekker's space slug/zombie flick starring Tom "thrill me" Atkins, Jason Lively and Steve Marshall - on DVD and Blu-Ray thanks to the same man who brought The Monster Squad DVD to...

I remember seeing Night Of The Creeps when it was released in 1986. I hadn’t seen the trailer and didn’t know anything about the movie, but a friend invited me at the last minute, and, hey, being 11 at the time, any chance to see an R-rated horror movie was an opportunity I would never pass up. Well, Night Of The Creeps is...

See new clips from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's "Night of the Creeps" starring Jason Lively, Steve Marshall, Jill Witlow, Tom Atkins, Wally Taylor, Bruce Solomon, Vic Polizos and Allan Kayser. The comedy horror sees release on October 27th. In this campy chiller, a college couple, in 1959, see an object plummet to Earth like a meteor. The boy accidentally swallows a space-slug that shoots out. In 1986, two freshmen roam the campus and stumble across the corpse of the boy who swallowed the space-slug. Once thawed out, the corpse comes to life. Interestingly enough,multi-talented David Paymer had a part in this film as a young scientist.
