“You’ve been making women feel bad about themselves since you were invented,” the hip teen Sasha (Ariana Greenblatt) tells the stereotypical Barbie standing before her. “You represent everything wrong with our culture: sexualized capitalism, unrealistic physical ideals.” Stereotypical Barbie is horrified: “No, no, no, you’re describing something stereotypical,” she insists.
Margot Robbie spent much of Barbie proving why the doll she portrayed wasn’t the sexist object that girls like Sasha see. The Aussie actor has a much more difficult task ahead of her if she’s going to do the same thing in her upcoming project Avengelyne. Everything about Avengelyne screams mindless sex and violence—which is why Robbie is the perfect choice. Hold on, let us explain…

Avengelyne is an American comic book series that, despite the fact that it never became a mainstream work, became a fantasy cult classic title that many fans remember quite dearly. The series was created by Rob Liefeld and Cathy Christian, and focuses on Avengelyne, an angel who has to fight the forces of evil and is one of the most prominent female comic book heroines outside the mainstream universes. Avengelyne #1, the first issue of the series, appeared in May 1995, and the most recent iteration of the comic book ended in 2012. We have recently reported that a film adaptation of the comic is in the works, and we have now received some interesting new info about the project.
We reported earlier that Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap production company acquired the rights to a cinematic adaptation, with Olivia Wilde eyed to direct. Robbie herself was initially attached simply as a producer, but...

Olivia Wilde will direct and Margot Robbie will star in an adaptation of comic book Avengelyne, it’s been announced.
Comic book writer Rob Liefeld’s biggest success is undoubtably Deadpool, which Ryan Reynolds and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick brought to the screen to huge critical and commercial success – Deadpool And Wolverine, which sees Hugh Jackman reprise his iconic role, will be released in UK cinemas on the 26th July. You can watch the trailer here.
Warner Bros is now very close to closing a deal on another of Liefeld’s comics, Avengelyne. Furthermore, Margot Robbie – as you probably gleaned from the cunning headline to this piece – is circling the lead role.

We recently got word that a live-action movie based on Rob Liefeld's fantasy/horror comic series Avengelyne was in development, and we have some exciting updates courtesy of Deadline.
As previously reported, the project will be directed by Olivia Wilde (Don't Worry Darling), with LuckyChap, the company Margot Robbie runs with Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara, and Simon Kinberg, on board to produce. Now, we've learned that Warner Bros is negotiating to close a seven-figure film-rights deal for the movie, and Poor Things scribe Tony McNamara has signed on to pen the script.
The trade also confirmed that Robbie is interested in playing the title role, but it sounds like her decision will be script-dependent.
An earlier version of the movie was in the works back in 2013, with former The Mandalorian actress Gina Carano attached to star.

Warner Bros. in Talks to Land ‘Avengelyne’ With Margot Robbie Eyeing to Star, Tony McNamara to Write
The feature adaptation of “Avengelyne” from Olivia Wilde, Margot Robbie and “X-Men” producer Simon Kinberg is being set up at Warner Bros. The studio is close to finalizing a seven-figure film rights deal.
Robbie is eyeing the role of the titular angel who fights the forces of evil and often finds herself face-to-face with demons and monsters. “Deadpool” co-creator Rob Liefeld first brought the comic book character to life in 1995. “Poor Things” scribe Tony McNamara will pen the screenplay.
“This incredibly humbling journey to bring Avengelyne to life onscreen started through my relationship with super-producer Simon Kinberg who told me he had a perfect fit for the material and asked me to trust him,” Liefeld told Variety in an exclusive statement. “Next thing I’m meeting with Margot Robbie and Olivia Wilde and the connection was electric! Earlier this month, we learned that Margot Robbie and Olivia Wilde are teaming up to bring the comic book character Avengelyne, who was created by Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld, to the big screen. Wilde, who previously directed Booksmart and Don’t Worry Darling, will be directing the film, with Robbie producing through her company LuckyChap – and there’s a chance that she’ll end up playing the title character as well, although her reps were denying that at the time of the earlier report. Now Deadline has broken the news that the Avengelyne project has landed at Warner Bros., with the studio negotiating to close a seven figure film rights deal. It makes sense that WB wanted it, since they just had a $1.4 billion success with Robbie and LuckyChap’s Barbie.

The next installment of the long lasting Marvel Cinematic Universe has a lot of pressure behind it. Not only is this the first time the X-Men series will be brought into the MCU after being at 20th Century Fox for two decades, but the previous year’s films were seen as either disappointments or outright failures.
With the film only a couple months away the film is reportedly getting some last minute reshoots to try and make sure all of the pieces fall into place. Marvel is under a lot of pressure to try and save the MCU from disaster and the third Deadpool film may be the one to save it.
Some fans believe the reshoots might incorporate more cameos than they were able to before. Whether that is true or not, we are already expected to have a bunch of Marvel cameos from across the multiverse.

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is certainly one of the releases this year that is meant to kickstart great things. First, the movie is Deadpool’s first foray into the MCU, something that fans have been asking for, well, since the MCU existed. Second, it’s part of a new strategy that aims to restore at least some of the faith that fans had in the franchise and in the studio.
Everything from cameos to jokes and action has been designed with fans in mind, it’s definitely a sign that MCU is starting to realize that a lot of projects don’t equal happy fans, especially if the quality of writing and acting, in general, are on a subpar level. This is why ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is the only Marvel Studios cinematic release this year so that fans can be sure that profits are not always a priority.

Hugh Jackman as Wolverine is easily one of the best physiques that the world of entertainment has witnessed. While many actors have bulked up for their roles, Jackman’s dedication has been more remarkable due to his growing age with each successive appearance. Having portrayed the character for more than 20 years now, Jackman looks magnificent in the latest trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine, to say the least.

The comic book community was almost astonished when Ryan Reynolds first disclosed on social media that Hugh Jackman would be playing Wolverine in Shawn Levy’s Deadpool 3. Though it was thought unlikely following Logan’s conclusion, there was discussion about Jackman possibly reprising his iconic role as Wolverine. It was not a huge deal either if he would not have returned, because that movie’s ending exceeded all expectations.

If you're not examining every single new detail in the freshly released "Deadpool & Wolverine" trailer, then can you really call yourself a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? The movie is bringing the raunchy Merc with a Mouth into the MCU for the first time, and Ryan Reynolds gets to keep his R-rated naughtiness, marking a major first for Marvel Studios. Joining him is Hugh Jackman, reprising his beloved role as Wolverine for the first time since the character met his moving fate in "Logan," though it might be a version of Wolverine we've never met before. But there are bound to be many more mutants and Marvel characters joining in the fun as well.
However, no matter how big of a Marvel movie fan you might be, unless you're also a Marvel Comics fan, there's a brilliant Easter egg you possibly missed.

"Invincible" season 2 just wrapped (read our review here). While the long gap after season 1 slowed down the excitement, the second season kept the show's quality soaring higher than a Viltrumite.
"Invincible" may stream on Prime Video, but its origin story lies at Image Comics. Image was founded in 1992 as counter-programming to the Marvel/DC comics duopoly; the founders included '90s comic superstars like Rob Liefeld, Todd McFarlane, and Jim Lee (the man who rebranded the X-Men for the '90s). The "I" on Invincible's costume? It doesn't just stand for "Invincible," but "Image" too.

Forget Booksmart – actor-director Olivia Wilde is about to get comic-book-smart. In an unexpected but not at all unwelcome turn of events, the Don't Worry Darling filmmaker is, according to THR, set to bring Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld's cult '90s comic series Avengelyne to the big screen. And what's more, Margot Robbie — no stranger to a superhero movie or two herself — is also aboard, and will co-produce alongside Deadpool writer-producer Simon Kinberg under her LuckyChap banner.

You might not know it because it is not a mainstream comic book title, but Avengelyne is undoubtedly a fantasy cult classic that many fans will remember dearly. Created by Rob Liefeld and Cathy Christian, Avengelyne is an angel who has to fight the forces of evil and is one of the most prominent female comic book heroines outside the mainstream universes. Avengelyne #1 appeared in May 1995, and the most recent iteration of the comic book ended in 2012. Now, in April 2024, there are reports that an Avengelyne movie is in the works with some major names attached.
Avengelyne is a very special character with a very interesting story. Author Rob Liefeld once described her like this: “Avengelyne resonated so powerfully with the audience because her story of redemption is one that is so relatable. Margot Robbie’s production company looks set to take on a film based on Avengelyne, a comic book character created by Deadpool’s Rob Liefeld.
If reports are accurate, Booksmart director Olivia Wilde is set to make Avengelyne, a take on the comic book character created by the mind behind Deadpool, Rob Liefeld. It’s the second project Wilde has lined up at Margot Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap Entertainment.
According to Deadline, 'Avengelyne is an angel who fights the forces of evil and often finds herself face-to-face with demons and monsters. She was the most feared warrior in Heaven’s Warhost, having single-handedly broken into Pandemonium, the outer fortress of Hell, to confront the Devil himself. She is a fallen angel, banished from Heaven by God after being tricked into questioning his love for humans. Avengelyne was stripped of all her angelic abilities, other than her great strength and her blood,...

Olivia Wilde’s comic book action film Avengelyne is picking up the sword with Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap production company along for the ride. Based on the signature comic book creation by Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld, rumor has it Margot Robbie could play the lead, but her reps are denying her involvement with that part of the project. LuckyChap includes Robbie, Tom Ackerley, Josey McNamara, and Simon Kinberg. LuckyChap produced Barbie, the billion-dollar barn-burner based on Mattel’s iconic blonde bombshell. With influence like that, it’s difficult not to imagine Avengelyne being a big to-do.

Exclusive: In what shapes up with the potential to be a big one, The Dish hears there is film rights auction in the works for Avengelyne — an angel who fights the forces of evil — with Olivia Wilde directing, based on the signature comic book creation by Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld. Aboard to produce is LuckyChap, the shingle Margot Robbie runs with Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara, and Simon Kinberg and Audrey Chon through their Genre banner.
I’ve heard the plan was for this to be developed for Robbie to star, but her camp is denying that part of it. A big A-list writer is circling to adapt.
The principals behind this are not commenting, but expect this one to hit the street within the next two weeks. LuckyChap is coming off Barbie, last year’s top-grossing film with eight Oscar nominations. Wilde last directed Don’t Worry Darling and before that Booksmart.

Rob Liefeld, the comic book creator who has spent decades dreaming up fantastical stories, is ready to put his own story down on the printed page.
Liefeld will pen a memoir titled Robservations, which BenBella Publishing will release early next year. As a creator, Liefeld has had a front-row seat to a number of crucial moments in comics over the past 30 years and promises to offer a candid accounting of what went down.
The book chronicles Liefeld’s trajectory from the son of a preacher in Orange County, California, to becoming a rising star at Marvel in the early 1990s, when his work on titles such as X-Force set sales records. He then went on to help disrupt the industry as one of the founders of Image Comics, which launched in 1992 with the premise that comic book creators could retain the rights to their work. In present times, Deadpool is arguably one of the most popular comic book characters, if not the most popular. His unique personality sets him apart from the typical superhero archetype, where one has to be noble, and morally upright, and his wit, sarcasm, and constant engagement with the readers make him refreshing and unconventional.

It took Marvel Studios three Spider-Man movies to set up Tom Holland as the hero of his own film — a film that still hasn't materialized. Both producer Amy Pascal and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige have seemingly confirmed a fourth Spider-Man movie starring the British actor is forthcoming, but just what form this will take and when it will arrive remain unclear. Which is a shame because, as mentioned, Holland has yet to really be the star of his own Spidey flick.
Debuting in "Captain America: Civil War," Holland went on to front three solo Spider-Man outings, but he always seemed to play second fiddle to either MCU world-building or other well-established MCU characters. But at the end of 2021's "Spider-Man: No Way Home," Holland's Peter Parker/Spider-Man was seemingly positioned to finally become the hero of his own story moving forward. For the first time in 27 years, Rob Liefeld’s Extreme Universe is invading the real-world with a line of action figures. Figures of the Bloodstrike character Cabbot Stone as well as the intergalactic mercenary Bloodwulf will arrive in the third quarter of this year, the comic book creator announced.
Liefeld, best known for Marvel’s Deadpool, has teamed with LooseCollector, a collectibles company specializing in action figures and statues. In a statement, founder Dave Cardenas said he expects to expand into more Extreme Universe characters in 2025.
Liefeld debuted Bloodstrike and Bloodwulf in 1992 in the pages of Image Comics, the indie publisher he and six other former Marvel and DC artists launched that year. Each sold more than 1 million copies, showing the appetite for new characters in the early ’90s comic book boom.
In addition to the action figures, Liefeld has the Bloodstrike: Battle Blood collection out from Image in May.

Deadpool Creator Rob Liefeld Says Goodbye to Marvel: “I’m a Little Sad” but Retiring on My Own Terms
After decades of giving maximum effort as the creator of Marvel Comics standout Deadpool, Rob Liefeld will soon be stepping away from the antihero that has been memorably brought to life on the big screen by Ryan Reynolds.
Liefeld has decided that he will retire from Deadpool once he has completed work on a book for Marvel that he hopes will hit shelves in the summer, just in time to build off excitement surrounding Disney releasing Deadpool 3 in theaters July 26. The 56-year-old artist and Image Comics co-founder, who announced his decision Monday via Instagram, says he always assumed he would continue with his signature creation until much later in life, due to his continued passion for the “Merc with a mouth.”
“About 10 years ago, I really felt like I was in a groove, and in my mind, I was going to do this till I was 70,” Liefeld tells The Hollywood Reporter.

“When taking a comic book from page to screen there are always hurdles, screenplay, screenwriters, talent that attach and move on. It gets old really fast,” he wrote.
Liefeld and Silvera, who worked on “Deadpool” and other Marvel films, shared an artistic synergy.

Keith Giffen, known both as a comic book writer and artist whose characters have appeared in live-action franchises from Marvel and DC Comics, has died. He was 70 years old and had worked in comics since 1976.
Giffen was known for having a hand in the creation of characters including Lobo, Guardians of the Galaxy furry teammate Rocket Raccoon and the modern Jaime Reyes version of Blue Beetle. He also wrote acclaimed runs of “Justice League” and the “Legion of Super-Heroes,” as well as creating the cult fourth-wall-breaking character Ambush Bug (a decade earlier than Deadpool).
He died Sunday of a stroke, according to media reports (first reported by Bleeding Cool), but the news of his death wasn’t made public until Wednesday evening.
The comic creator often brought a wry sense of humor to his work. That included a posthumous Facebook post he’d arranged to have put up Wednesday after his death,...

Comic book creator Rob Liefeld is getting a boost from a member of the Deadpool movie family for his latest project. Liefeld has teamed with Phillip J. Silvera, who served as a stunt coordinator on 2016’s Deadpool, for a proof-of-concept trailer for Bloodstrike.
Liefeld is best known for creating Marvel characters such as Deadpool and Cable, but Bloodstrike hails from Liefeld’s indie Extreme Universe, which over the years has gotten attention from Hollywood. At one point, Akiva Goldsman and Graham King were attached. Netflix also came and went as a partner. But with those options having expired, Liefeld grew frustrated and decided to take things into his own hands. Now, the hope is for Silvera to direct a feature film, though no studio is attached at the moment.

When the X-Men debuted in the pages of Marvel Comics back in 1963, their superhero costumes looked a little more like school uniforms. The team at the time was made up of the characters Cyclops, Ice Man, Beast, Marvel Girl, and Angel, and they all wore a notable yellow-and-blue ensemble with hoods to partially cover their faces. "The Uncanny X-Men" also allowed creators Stan Lee and Jack Kirby to skip over the bothersome task of having to invent a superhero origin story. Rather than a tale of cosmic rays, gamma radiation, spider-bites, or some other powers-granting conceit, the X-Men were merely born with their abilities. They are mutants.
When the X-Men universe expanded to include more and more characters, the blue-and-yellow ensembles gave way to a wide variety of outlandish costumes, each one adhering to the styles of the day. Those who read X-Men comics in the 1990s, for instance,...
