Happy 2021, everyone! It’s been a few weeks, but we’re back with a brand-new edition of our weekly Blu-ray and DVD releases column to kick off this new year. And while we may not have a ton of titles headed home on Tuesday, we do have an excellent bunch of films all the same, including one of my favorite films of 2020, Love and Monsters, which hits various formats this week. Another film from last year that I really enjoyed was Brea Grant’s 12 Hour Shift, which hits both Blu-ray and DVD (and will be available On Demand) tomorrow, and if you have somehow never seen it, I highly recommend picking up the new Blu for Savage Streets, featuring Linda Blair.
Other releases for January 5th include Tintorera… Tiger Shark, From the Depths, Nina of the Woods, and Hacksaw.

While aware that there is another Maniac review here on Nerdly, I felt the urge to review it myself after sitting down with the movie for the second time and being filled with the need to unleash words.
The original Maniac hit our screens in 1980 with Joe Spinell sludging up our televisions with his disturbingly dirty portrayal of Frank, the scalp obsessed nut-job with a heart of mould. It was a great horror movie with a fantastic lead performance and top notch gore courtesy of the maestro of visceral explosions, Tom Savini, who also has a small but memorable part in the original film.

Director Gregory Hatanaka is, to put it mildly, a madman. His films are wild concoctions of disparate influences jammed together with an urgent energy, the sorts of things that seem steeped more in experimental theater than they do with any sort of mainstream film culture. He first came to attention here thanks to his 2006 effort Mad Cowgirl and he's back now with Blue Dream.James Duval, Dominique Swain, Pollyanna McIntosh, Kayden Kross, Noah Hathaway, Walter Koenig, Sal Landi and Richard Riehle star in the story of a news writer who finds himself caught up in a world of sex, drugs and corporate takeovers as he tries to solve a series of murders. This, of course, only scratches the surface of what Hatanaka is up to....

They will never understand… as long as you keep the secret! Huh! We have a much better version of that red band trailer for the upcoming Maniac movie, as well as some new images from the whole thing, so I definitely recommend you to check it out! Elijah Wood and Nora Arnezeder together in a totally sick and creepy film which comes from director Franck Khalfoun and is, by the way, written by Alexandre Aja? Sign me in, please!
We previously shared an international red band trailer (not much of a quality, though) and some cool images from the movie, and as you’ll see, this new video looks pretty much the same. But what the hell – you can consider this report as a little reminder that Khalfoun’s movie opens soon, and that you should not miss it!

An incomplete French teaser trailer, unfortunately. But what you do get (around 90 seconds) is pretty intense, it is in English, and more importantly, Elijah Wood is pretty wicked. Really, who knew Frodo Baggins could be so scary? The film is currently selling over at Cannes, so who knows when we’ll get the full trailer/teaser, but when we do get it we will update this post. Until then, this will just have to do. Just when the streets seemed safe, a serial killer with a fetish for scalps is back and on the hunt. Frank is the withdrawn owner of a mannequin store, but his life changes when young artist Anna appears asking for his help with her new exhibition. As their friendship develops and Frank’s obsession escalates, it becomes clear that she has unleashed a long-repressed compulsion to stalk and kill. Also starring America Olivo, Nora Arnezeder,...

Franck Khalfoun's ('P2') new 'Maniac' reboot will hopefully see Elijah Wood ('Happy Feet 2') return to his maniacal best much like he attempted as Kevin the cannibal in Robert Rodriguez's 'Sin City'. Wood plays stab-happy psychopath Frank in the remake based on William Lustig's 1980's slasher flick. And now the delectable America Olivo ('Bitch Slap', 'No One Lives') has signed up to play Frank's abusive dead mother, who will apear to Wood's character in the form of hallucinations. Gorgeous actress Olivo (below) appeared on the cover of Playboy on the June 2009 issue. The remake comes from a script penned by Gregory Levasseur and Alexandre Aja ('Mirrors' and 'Piranha 3D'). Nora Arnezeder ('Safe House'), Hank Azaria ('Run Fatboy Run') and Sal Landi all co-star. Check out the plot synopsis for the reboot below.

Danny doesn’t trust Skip, or really, anyone else, so when Skip suggests they bond by putting together an old Indian motorcycle that belonged to Danny’s grandfather,...
