[[tmz:video id="0_2ezphbiu"]] Charles Barkley is firing back at all the people 'hating' on him -- with a big ol' "F**K You!" Sir Chuck took over the DJ booth at the Koo Koo Room in Atlanta on Tuesday -- right in the thick of his verbal war with LeBron James -- and sent a message that seemed to be directed at the NBA star. "This is for all you f**king haters out there," Barkley said while...

Excuse my absence, I will be devising a super post soon of all the great music videos I have missed lately. But for now, I present you with another instalment of this week’s top 5. The majority I have picked this week are not particularly cheery and can be a little uncomfortable to watch. Ariel Pink’s latest efforts are fuelled by a creepy attempt to pick up women, Elliphant and Mø share a tense night out, Wannabe Jalva’s video explores three different characters who continue to unknowingly cross paths and Lower’s “Daft Persuasion” consists of merely intense imagery throughout. The reason I have picked these slightly unpleasant videos is simple. They are all different. They’re all a complete breath of fresh air as there is no emphasis on creating a pretty video. The main focus is to make a gritty and engaging video that matches the...

Though it hasn't even been released yet, Kevin Smith's Tusk is already set to get the spin-off treatment as the director seemingly embarks on a quest to make as many crazy movies as he possibly can. Read on for all the details!
Per Screen Daily, later this year Smith plans on shooting Yoga-Hosers, which is centered on characters who pop up for a brief appearance in Tusk and was also inspired by a discussion on his podcast.
"There are two characters in a convenience store in Tusk that you see for five minutes, very much Ronsencrantz and Guildenstern," said Smith. "I’ve built a whole movie around them, and I have [also] brought one of the other characters from Tusk back.”

Kevin Smith took to Instagram to reveal a behind-the-scenes image from his movie Tusk, which features a look at a very bloody Justin Long. We like when Long is bloody. He was pretty neat when his peepers were removed too.
Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions has snatched up Smith's monster flick, which is thus far the biggest Hollywood studio deal at Berlin's European Film Market.
Spwa has bought Tusk for the U.K., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Latin America, Italy, Benelux, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, South Africa, Portugal, Spain and Greece. Additional territories are yet to be announced.
A24 Films had already scooped up domestic rights and will release Tusk in theaters this fall.

Swiss artist H.R. Giger, who rendered the titular character in Alien through his art, died in Zurich on Monday. He was 74.
H.R. Giger Dies
Giger reportedly died of injuries sustained in a fall, H.R. Giger Museum administrator Sandra Mivelaz told The New York Times.
For the 1979 hit film Alien, Giger designed the creature’s appearance – from the egg from which it emerged to the full-grown, 8-foot-tall entity it became. Giger, along with the rest of the film’s visual effects team, won an Academy Award for his work.
“Giger’s work disturbs us, spooks us, because of its enormous evolutionary time span,” Timothy Leary, a friend of Giger’s, has said. “It shows us, all too clearly, where we come from and where we are going.”
In addition to his work on Alien, Giger created designs for other movies, including Alien 3 and Prometheus. His artistry also contributed to the...

Swiss artist H.R. Giger, best known for his design of the "xenomorph" in Ridley Scott's masterpiece Alien, has died at age 74 from injuries suffered in a fall at his Gruyeres, Switzerland museum. Giger's work, often depicting human and machine hybrids, disturbingly fused together, was highly influential on a generation of movie directors, musicians, and visual artists. Some of his better known works include his painting of a human skull encased in a machine first appeared on the cover of Emerson, Lake, and Palmer's Brain Salad Surgery and his design for Debbie Harry's solo album, Koo Koo.

Berlin (AP) — Swiss artist H.R. Giger, who designed the creature in Ridley Scott's sci-fi horror classic "Alien," has died at age 74 from injuries suffered in a fall, his museum said Tuesday. Sandra Mivelaz, administrator of the H.R. Giger museum in Gruyeres, western Switzerland, told The Associated Press that Giger died in a hospital on Monday. Giger's works, often showing macabre scenes of humans and machines fused into hellish hybrids, influenced a generation of movie directors and inspired an enduring fashion for "biomechanical" tattoos. "My paintings seem to make the strongest impression on people who are, well, who are crazy," Giger said in a 1979 interview with Starlog magazine. "If they like my work they are creative ... or they are crazy." Born Hans Ruedi Giger on Feb. 5, 1940, in the southeastern Swiss town of Chur, he trained as an industrial designer because his father insisted that he learn a proper trade. His mother Melli,...

H.R. Giger, the artist behind some of the most fantastically disturbing art of the 21st century, has died. Giger won an Oscar for the design of the Alien that Sigourney Weaver faces down in Ridley Scott's "Alien," which was inspired by his painting "Necronom IV."
The surrealist artist was known for his biomechanical designs that fused humans and machines in strange and weirdly erotic ways, as you can see from his cover art for Debbie Harry's album "Koo Koo" and Danzig's "Danzig III: How the Gods Kill." In addition to designs for movies like "Poltergeist II" and "Aliens 3," Giger also contributed designs and concepts for Alejandro Jodorowsky unfinished adaptation of "Dune," as shown in the recent documentary "Jodorowsky's Dune."
There are currently two Giger bars in Switzerland, which are described as "immersive art" experiences designed by the artist himself, as well as a museum in Gruyères, Switzerland. There...

Although Kris Kringle gets all the love, here at Dread Central we're big fans of the Krampus. The character just doesn't get enough love, I tell ya! In any event, Kevin Smith thinks so, too, and he's gearing up to tell the mythical beast's tale like never before.
Explains Smith via his blog: If you listen to the Edumacation podcast, you’ll remember that episode 20 (Part 2 of the Christmas eps) consisted of another dopey conversation that resulted in a screenplay – a’la SModcast and Tusk. I was goofing around with Mr. Edumacation himself, Professor Andy McElfresh, when we accidentally brainstormed a Christmas horror anthology that would eschew the gruesome spin on Santa Claus, and instead embrace the Scandinavian/German Kid-Eating Christmas creature known as The Krampus. That podcast was released 12/23/13.
It took us less than a month, but Andy and I have finished the screenplay for a flick we’re calling Comes The Krampus!

Though Smith has been rushing the film along in an effort to premiere it at next month's Sundance Film Festival, it looks like he's hit a little speed bump along the way. Read on for details.
As reported by our friends over at Bloody Disgusting, Smith opened up about the progress of the film on the latest episode of his SModcast, revealing that the cameras will continue to roll through the year, possibly even into next year.
“We’ve still got two more shooting days here in Los Angeles to wrap the flick with our fifth Beatle – the performer playing the role of investigator Guy Lapointe,” said Smith. “It’s looking like late December/early January for...

MTV is really enjoying its run in with the horror genre which began officially several years ago with the original My Super Psycho Sweet 16. Word of another project has just hit the wire, and we continue to be perplexed by when exactly we can tune in to the network to actually hear music.
According to Variety, Victoria Justice (pictured) has been cast in the pilot for MTV’s “Eye Candy.”
She'll be playing Lindy, a beautiful but reclusive hacker whose blog exposes everything from terrorist plots to suspected killers. Convinced by her roommate to begin online dating, Lindy is targeted by a dangerous cyberstalker and believes one of her suitors to be the culprit. When things take a deadly turn, she teams up with the city’s cyber-crime unit to catch the killer.
“Eye Candy,” written by Emmy Grinwis, is based on a novel of the same name by R.L. Stine.

We don't really know much of anything about Kevin Smith's second horror film, other than the fact that it's called Tusk, will star Michael Parks and Justin Long, and has been described as a monster movie about a dude who turns another dude into a human walrus.
Of course, that's more than enough information to pique our interest!
Though today brings no new developments about the film, Kevin Smith did write up a guest post for The Hollywood Reporter, wherein he opened up about someone who will not be appearing in the movie; Quentin Tarantino.
In the article, Smith talks about how he offered Tarantino the role of a French Canadian cop who is hunting down the aforementioned dude that's trying to turn another dude into a walrus, but Tarantino rejected the offer. "Qt said he dug the script and couldn't wait to watch Parks let loose his internal Kraken", Smith writes,...

Apart from Ridley Scott, there is one other man who’s ideas and designs are synonymous with the “Alien” franchise, H.R Giger. Having the honor of being credited with creating one of films most terrifying monsters, Giger’s name is now an adjective for anything that carries his signature style.
Giger was born Hans Rudolf Giger in Switzerland in 1940. After studying Architecture and Industrial Design, he used the skills he had learnt and incorporated them into the craft that would make him famous. Moving from the traditional ink and oil paintings, Giger started using Airbrushes to create large canvasses that depicted dark, surreal imagery that hadn’t really been seen before. The subjects in his work are often biomechanical combinations of human and machine which are unnerving to see, as is his strong sexual imagery. It also links with a trend that was prominent in the 70′s that explored...

Note: Do not read on if you have not seen Season 2, Episode 20 of ABC Family's "Pretty Little Liars, entitled "Ctrl:a."
Apparently, Emily is back on the Sharks swim team because all of the "Pretty Little Liars" are gathered at Rosewood High waiting for her and the other swimmers: Hanna and Caleb canoodle on a bench and talk about "hot spots," while Aria and Spencer mention they're finally meeting up with the guy on the other end of the phone who knew "Vivian."
Aria says their moms talked and Spencer's Oliva Benson look-a-like mother wants her to come home, but she's not going to because she can't deal with her family. Since they are literally never home, that makes sense.
Finally, Em and the Sharks arrive. Maya holds up her admittedly dorky sign, Spencer offers a "Way to go, champ" and Hanna says the party's at her place.

As Toy Story 3 arrives on DVD and Blu-ray, we look at other films in which toys walk and talk under their own power, and they've been doing it for quite a while too!
The Toy Story triumvirate will reign supreme among stories of toys coming to life and it's hard to imagine any single film or series that uses the premise of living playthings ever besting the perfect trio of movies.
