SeriesFest Season 9 Independent Pilot Competition Winners Include ‘Humanized’, ‘Chanshi’ (Exclusive)
SeriesFest Season 9 unveiled its list of winners in the independent pilot competition at a ceremony in Denver on Wed, May 10. Jurors screened 55 pilots from creative voices around the globe at this year’s iteration of the television festival.
“The independent pilot competitions are at the heart of our mission. It is why we founded SeriesFest,” said Randi Kleiner, CEO and Co-Founder of SeriesFest. “It was to be a discovery platform for independent artists and give them the opportunity to get their voices heard, their projects seen by an audience and executives, and make new connections. Anyone who has made a pilot deserves to be honored.”

Last night in New York at the 18th Tribeca Film Festival, the winners were announced in the competition categories. The top honours went to Burning Cane which took the Founders Award for Best U.S. Narrative Feature, House of Hummingbird (Beol-sae) which won Best International Narrative Feature and Scheme Birds which was named Best Documentary Feature. In an exclusive trailer for the documentary “History of Memory,” filmmakers Sarah Klein and Tom Mason tell four stories about how photographs drastically and forever altered the lives of the people in them halfway across the globe.
“If your family has been in this country a long time, there’s some secrets in your closet,” one woman says in the trailer. “My mother brought out this photo album, and I realized the depth of my mother’s story as passing as a white woman.”
“History of Memory” is a four-chapter film series, one of which is “A Secret Album.” In it, the woman mentioned above discovers her true self and surprising heritage after she uncovers a hidden family photo album.
