The actors in the "Fast and Furious" franchise are big stars, sure, but the cars in the long-running saga aren't very far behind. They're characters all on their own. In advance of the upcoming "Fast X," I recently got a chance to visit a garage in Los Angeles to chat with Dennis McCarthy, longtime car supervisor for all the "Fast and Furious" films starting with "Tokyo Drift." He took us on a tour of a few of the featured cars and motorcycles in the upcoming sequel, and told us a few stories about the shoot and the franchise as a whole.
Dante's Harley
First up on the tour were the cars and bikes that we'll see in the first part of the film, which is set in Rome. We were shown the Harley Davidson Pan American, which is ridden by Dante (Jason Momoa) in the film. According to McCarthy,...

After tragedy struck Parkland, Fla., in early 2018, the young survivors of the mass shooting felt they had no other choice but to stand up and fight for their rights. They were just kids, but the students banded together and fell into an unexpected calling as youth activists.
A month after 17 lives were lost at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, they pulled off the largest youth protest in American history with March for Our Lives, a student-led demonstration in support of legislation to prevent gun violence, which captured the attention of Hollywood A-listers and millions of people around the world. That summer, the activists embarked on a tour around the country, as their movement grew to tackle much more than gun reform.
The documentary, “Us Kids” — from filmmaker Kim A. Snyder, who directed the Peabody Award-winning doc “Newtown” in 2016 — follows the young activists, as they spread their movement across the country,...

Make-up artist Nick Nicolaou and Alex Proyas.
Alex Proyas has named his new film studio in Sydney’s inner west Heretic Foundation, symbolising his new approach to filmmaking.
“I want to smash the mold and build a new system to enable indie Aussie filmmakers,” says the director of The Crow, Dark City, I, Robot and Gods of Egypt.
“It’s soup to nuts production – everything from prep to shoot to post, edit, VFX, sound track lay and mix and colour grade.”
Located in Alexandria, the studio will house his new short film Mask of the Evil Apparition, which stars Bonnie Ferguson as Olivia, a young woman lost in a nocturnal, dreamlike city.
Dean Kyrwood will portray twin psychic brothers who try to help her find her way home as she is pursued by a shadowy cult known as The Mysterious Ones.

Addressed by teenage speakers from around the country who have been affected by gun violence, attendees rallied to demand legislative action.
While Washington, D.C. authorities have yet to give an official estimate, reports published by major news organizations put the crowd size at 850,000 people, which would make it the largest demonstration in the capital’s history. Among the day’s highlights:
• Andra Day and Common kicked off the rally with a performance of “Rise Up” backed by students from Baltimore’s Cardinal Shehan School Choir. Other performances throughout the day included Demi Lovato singing “Skyscraper,” Lin-Manuel Miranda and Ben Platt performing “Found/Tonight,...

To mark today’s release of A Good Day to Die Hard on DigitalHD™, DVD and Blu-ray, we got to attend a rather fabulous event at Mercedes Benz World at Brooklands race circuit near Weybridge experiencing just what John McClane would have gone through while making the movie.
Throughout the course of the day, we were guided by Bruce Willis’ stunt double (Larry Rippenkoeger) who was responsible for most of the stunts that you saw John McClane perform in the movie. He guided us through the use of the ‘pod’ that you may well have seen on DVD / Blu-ray extras in the past for car stunt movies. It’s a relatively simple idea which allows the stunt performer to sit on top of a vehicle while the actor is in the car making it look like they are driving when in fact the man / woman up top has complete control of the vehicle!
