- Kilgour enjoyed a long career on stage. He acted on Broadway in 29 productions from 1896 through mid-1930. His film roles are limited to silents, largely shot in and around New York City, during the time when major studios maintained operations there to take advantage of theatrical talent.
- Kilgour may have been the first actor to portray George Washington on screen in the 1909 film Washington Under the British Flag (1909).
