A spin-off of The A Word and a con-artist thriller from Chernobyl producer Sister are two of the latest dramas ordered by British public broadcaster the BBC.
Both projects will air on flagship network BBC One but what is more remarkable about the pair of orders is that both involve emerging writers and in the case of The A Word spin-off, disabled writers.
Ralph and Katie focuses on two of the characters from Peter Bowker’s The A Word.
The series follows Ralph, played by Leon Harrop, and Katie, played Sarah Gordy, as they embark on the biggest adventure of their lives, having just had the wedding of the year. Each 30-minute episode features a different story focusing on the domestic challenges faced by the newlyweds – challenges faced by all newlyweds, but with the added fact that they have Down’s Syndrome.

For a few years now, J.J. Abrams has been trying to get a remake of the 2003 Israeli TV movie, "Kol Ma She'Yesh Li" ("All I've Got") off the ground. Back in 2013, he rounded up Ron Howard to direct, but the version didn't get in front of cameras. But now he's got some new talent to help bring the story to life. "The Diary Of A Teenage Girl" helmer Marielle Heller will direct "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" star Daisy Ridley in the fantasy thriller. Megan Holley ("Sunshine Cleaning") has penned the script for "Kolma" that centers on a young, in-love couple who get into a car accident where the man is killed. The woman moves on, marries, has three children, but 50 years later when she faces her own end, she's given the choice of living again as a 22 year-old, or being reunited with her first love. The original movie was...

Daisy Ridley is set to star in another J.J. Abrams produced film project called Kolma. The film is a fantasy thriller that is being directed by Marielle Heller, who previously directed Diary of a Teenage Girl.
Kolma will be a remake of Keren Margalit’s 2003 Israeli movie of the week, which was titled All I’ve Got. The story is described as “a cross between a loftier, more mystical version of The Notebook and Albert Brooks‘ 1991 fantasy romance Defending Your Life, the project follows a young couple who get in a car accident that leaves the man dead. 50 years later, the old woman is about to cross over and make the choice whether to reunite with her long-lost love in the hereafter or return to the fateful day her life changed forever.”
This sounds like a fascinating story and it sounds like a great project for Ridley to be a part of.

Bless J.J Abrams, for he delivered to us the glorious Daisy Ridley, when he cast her as the lead in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. With few screen credits to her name, the actress and her co-star John Boyega strolled off into the history books, having successfully re-booted the most legendary film franchise in history. Little wonder then, that Ridley is now reportedly circling another female-led film produced by Abrams and his Bad Robot banner – this one titled Kolma.
The movie is an exciting prospect – not just because Daisy Ridley may star, but also because it will be the second feature length movie from director Marielle Heller, who debuted with The Diary Of A Teenage Girl in 2015. In addition, while Heller is set to work on the script prior to shooting, it is written by Megan Holley, who scripted 2008’s Sunshine Cleaning – which starred Amy Adams, Emily Blunt and Alan Arkin.

While it might normally seem appropriate to scoff at a multi-hyphenate powerhouse like J.J. Abrams and a name brand director like Ron Howard taking on a new adaptation of a foreign TV movie that’s nearly a decade old, producer Abrams and now-attached-director Howard have certainly picked a potentially compelling project to team up on. Vulture reports that Howard is now set to helm a remake of Israeli TV movie Kol Ma She’Yesh Li, to be titled All I’ve Got (per its English translation) that Abrams is producing through his Bad Robot shingle. The original film was written and directed by Margalit Keren. If you don’t know who Margalit Keren is, that’s fine, but most other outlets seem intent to report that she also wrote “numerous episodes” of the Israeli show Be’Tipul, which Showtime ultimately adapted into its In Treatment. It’s okay if that bit of trivia doesn’t help you...

As a director, J.J. Abrams has already proven his bonafides with two franchise bearing his stamp -- "Star Trek" and "Mission: Impossible" -- and shown that he can also deliver original blockbuster material ("Super 8") to equal success. And as a producer, his stature grows day by day with a number of hit TV shows under his belt ("Lost," "Fringe") and films as well, including his own, "Morning Glory" and "Cloverfield." And in that role, he's used his clout to get a big-name director on board for a supernatural drama his Bad Robot shingle is shepherding. Vulture reports that Ron Howard is now attached to direct "All I've Got," a remake of the largely unknown 2003 Israeli TV movie, "Kol Ma She'Yesh Li." The original was written and directed by Margalit Keren, who also penned episodes of a show called "Be’Tipul." Never heard of it? You might know it better under.

When Barack Obama said that “Israel’s security is paramount” a couple of years ago, we had no idea he meant Paramount Pictures. But the tunnel that connects Tinseltown to Tel Aviv is getting a little more crowded: Vulture has learned that Ron Howard has just attached himself as a director to Kol Ma She'Yesh Li (in English, All I’ve Got) — an until-now obscure 2003 Israeli TV movie of the week that J.J. Abrams’s Bad Robot is developing as a theatrical feature at Paramount. The original property was written and directed by Margalit Keren, an Israeli screenwriter who wrote numerous episodes of Be’Tipul, a hit Israeli show that itself would later be exported to HBO as In Treatment the same way the Israeli TV series Hatufim wound up on Showtime as Homeland. We’re told that All I’ve Got is equal parts The Notebook and — if we...
