This post contains spoilers for the season finale of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds."
If one thing remains true about Spock across many decades and several iterations, it's that the trusty half-human, half-Vulcan holds logic in the highest regard. That's why it's so surprising to revisit "The Menagerie," a season 1 episode of "Star Trek: The Original Series" that sees Leonard Nimoy's Spock break rank and hijack the Enterprise to help his former captain, Christopher Pike.
On one level, having Spock court martialed for commandeering the ship is a nifty way to use repurposed footage...

No ship or crew gets anywhere without its captain, and in truth, that captain dictates the tone of the journey, not only the success of the mission.
As Captain Christopher Pike, in command of the USS Enterprise on Paramount+'s new series, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Anson Mount steps into a role previously taken on by other actors, but never with the fan anticipation that greeted the premiere of this series.
Speaking virtually with TV Fanatic and other outlets on a recent press day, Mount expresses gratitude and wonder at becoming a part of the Star Trek culture and family.
In terms of broadcast history, Pike is the first captain Star Trek floated for the Enterprise. Before William Shatner portrayed Captain James T. Kirk on the premiere in 1966, Jeffrey Hunter played Pike on the first pilot episode, "The Cage."
The pilot didn't test well, and "The Cage" never aired.

No show has mined more canonical information from unused material than "Star Trek." Case in point: The new series "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" is based on characters and events from the two-part original series episode "The Menagerie," wherein a non-verbal and wheelchair-using Captain Pike (Sean Kenney) hijacked the Enterprise (with Spock's help) to return to the planet Talos IV where he had gone on a mission a few years prior to his injuries. In "The Menagerie," audiences saw -- in turn -- repurposed footage from "The Cage," the original "Star Trek" pilot wherein Spock (Leonard Nimoy) was still on board, and the Enterprise was captained by Pike...

Making good on their promise to deliver a singular virtual fan experience, the cloud graphics company Otoy has mounted its first project under a sweeping rights deal with “Star Trek” creator The Roddenberry Estate.
Variety reported last summer that Otoy would produce everything from holographic and digital renderings of the famous Starship Enterprise vessel to TV and movie sets. In its first staging, the company has reunited the living original cast and crew of the first-ever “Star Trek” pilot for a rendering of a founding set.
In an episode titled “The Cage,” director Robert Butler provided extensive behind-the-scenes materials to help in the recreation. Additional team returning included Sean Kenney, who played Captain Pike beginning in “Star Trek: The Menagerie,” and Chris Hunter, son of Jeffrey Hunter, who played Captain Pike in the pilot. Sandy Gimpel, who played a Talosian alien, and Dave Blass, production designer for “Star Trek: Picard,...

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is poised to serve the quintessence of the spacefaring franchise: The voyages of the U.S.S. Enterprise—albeit during the captaincy of James T. Kirk’s immediate predecessor, Christopher Pike (Anson Mount). The Paramount+ series—spun off from Star Trek: Discovery—has announced the start of its production and revealed its primary cast. Interestingly, one newcomer in particular bears a noteworthy resemblance to a forgotten character from original Star Trek pilot “The Cage,” whose general era this series will showcase.
An announcement by Paramount has officially welcomed Star Trek: Strange New Worlds cast members Babs Olusanmokun, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding (Broadway’s Jagged Little Pill), Jess Bush and Melissa Navia. However, the characters this new quintet will portray have yet to be revealed. While the majority of the diverse bunch do not seem to line up with established characters from “The Cage,” blonde-haired,...

This is one for the C-movie connoisseurs among you.
For those of you who don’t know (you won’t), there’s a new sci-fi spoof on the way called Unbelievable!!!!! It stars Snoop Dogg, 42 former Star Trek actors, Michael Madsen, and a ficus on a skateboard. That ought to answer all of your questions.
In the can for what appears to have been an eternity (some of the footage dates back as far as 2013), the film does at last have a release date. I say at last, but I’m not sure it was at the top of anyone’s list of movie treasure troves. Anyway, if you’re feeling particularly trashy (there’s no shame in that), sit down for Unbelievable!!!!! in an online premiere this August 1st. The premiere will also come with a virtual convention.

[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for “Star Trek: Discovery” Season 2, Episode 1, “Brother.”]
The Season 2 premiere of “Star Trek: Discovery” definitely feels like the beginning of something. “Brother,” launching Thursday on CBS All Access, is all about establishing a new status quo, a new chain of command, and most importantly a new mission focused on exploration over conflict. Where that mission will take this ambitious yet flawed series, however, is as yet a mystery.
Picking up moments after Season 1 ended, Captain Pike (Anson Mount) of the U.S.S. Enterprise (you may have heard of it) comes on board Discovery with news from Starfleet — the Enterprise has been disabled by massive systems failure, so he’s taking command of the good ship Discovery to investigate some odd signals that “have the Federation’s hackles up.” That quest leads the Discovery to a rescue mission on a crumbling asteroid, but no real answers as yet to what those signals might be,...

Dozens Of ‘Star Trek’ Actors Converge For Snoop Dogg’s Parody Pic ‘Unbelievable’ – Watch The Trailer
It’s a Trekkie delight. No idea why so many Star Trek actors thought this was a great idea, but they did. Snoop Dogg seems to be the furthest thing away from sci-fi as you can get, but he’s one of the stars Unbelievable, a parody film that uses a puppet for James T. Kirk. Watch the trailer for below.
The original score was written/composed by Emmy-winning, Oscar-nominated Gerald Fried — the last living composer from the original Star Trek series.
Snoop Dogg executive produced the film from writer-director Steven Fawcette that also stars Nichelle Nichols (who also co-produced), Angelique Fawcette (also a producer), Michael Madsen and Robert Davi. Also in the film are Casper Smart, Sam Asghari, Gilbert Gottfried and newcomer Katarina Van Derham.
Here are some of the 40-plus Star Trek actors who also appear: Garrett Wang, Chase Masterson Tim Russ, Armin Shimerman, Vaughn Armstrong, Gary Graham,...

It’s official: Season 2 of “Star Trek: Discovery” will feature the captain of the Enterprise — no, not Kirk, but the one before him. Anson Mount (“Hell on Wheels,” “Marvel’s Inhumans”) is joining the cast of the CBS All Access series as Captain Christopher Pike. It’s more than just casting news — it’s news that has us dying to find out what’s going on with that half-Vulcan who’s also on board the Enterprise at this time.
[Editor’s note: Spoilers for “Star Trek: Discovery” Season 1 follow.]
Pike’s casting is news we’ve been expecting since the Season 1 finale of “Discovery,” which featured the good ship Discovery encountering the Starfleet flagship and teased Pike’s presence. Executive producers Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts have been clear since the end of the season about having to handle “Discovery’s” temporal placement, as the show exists within a period of “Star Trek” history that now overlaps with established continuity.

Anson Mount, who is best known for his roles in Marvel's Inhumans series and AMC's Hell On Wheels, has been cast as Captain Christopher Pike in Star Trek: Discovery. Mount is a solid actor, unfortunately, Inhumans wasn't very good. This should be a great role for him to take on, though.
Mount will be the fourth actor to take on the role of Pike in the Star Trek franchise. The character preceded James T. Kirk as the captain of the Enterprise. He was previously played by Jeffrey Hunter in the original Star Trek: The Original Series pilot. Sean Kenney ended up playing the more iconic version of the character when he was older and confined to a brainwave-operated wheelchair. Then there's Bruce Greenwood, who played the character in J.J. Abrams' films.

Before James T. Kirk helmed the USS Enterprise, the starship was captained by a man named Christopher Pike. And in Season 2 of CBS All Access’ Star Trek: Discovery, the streamer announced Monday, that man will be played by Hell on Wheels‘ Anson Mount.
Mount, who most recently starred in ABC’s cancelled Marvel series Inhumans, will be introduced as the canon-crucial character in charge of the ship that issued a distress call to the Discovery at the end of the Season 1 finale.
The actor tweeted about his new gig Monday.

Star Trek: Discovery is ready to introduce a familiar character from the sci-fi franchise into the fold. Anson Mount is set to play Captain Christopher Pike of the U.S.S. Enterprise. Production for the sophomore season of the CBS All Access series will begin later this month. As of today, there has been no confirmed airdate.
Diehard Trekkies (or if you prefer: “Trekkers”) will immediately know Captain Pike as he was first introduced in the original Star Trek series. He led the iconic ship prior to Captain James T. Kirk. The introduction to the character is expected considering his name was mentioned in the season finale of Discovery.

Anson Mount has joined “Star Trek: Discovery” Season 2 in the role of Capt. Christopher Pike, Variety has learned.
Caution: spoilers ahead. In the closing moments of the first season finale of the CBS All Access series, the Discovery receives an emergency distress call from a nearby Federation starship. The ship turns out to be the USS Enterprise under Pike’s command.
Mount will be the fourth actor to portray Pike, who preceded James T. Kirk as the captain of the Enterprise. Jeffrey Hunter played the role in the original, unused “Star Trek: The Original Series” pilot, with footage from that episode later being repurposed in the two-part episode “The Menagerie.” Also in “The Menagerie,” Sean Kenney played an older–and the most iconic–version of Pike, confined to a brainwave-operated wheelchair and unable to communicate save for a blinking light. Malachi Throne, the man who played Commodore Jose Mendez in the original "Star Trek" episodes "The Menagerie" died last week following complications of lung cancer. He was 84. Throne, who had already established himself as a character actor when he appeared on the original science-fiction series in 1966, helped NBC and Desilu Pictures make back some of their money in television's first failed pilot that earned a show a second chance. "The Menagerie" was actually a two-part envelope episode for "The Cage," which was the original "Star Trek" pilot starring Jeffrey Hunter and Leonard Nimoy. Throne played Mendez, the commander of a space station where Hunter's character of Capt. Christopher Pike (this time played by Sean Kenney) was severely injured, and then kidnapped by Nimoy's Spock. ...

The advance screening of the film was arranged for 300 residents of Vulcan after the town's tourist board failed in its bid to persuade Paramount let them host the film's world premiere. That has since taken place in Sydney, Australia.
Captain Pike is seen in trailers for Star Trek urging Chris Pine's Kirk to enlist in Starfleet. The character appeared twice in the original series of Star Trek on which the new film is based. Jeffrey Hunter played Pike in the originally unaired first pilot for the series, 'The Cage'. When footage from that pilot was incorporated into the two-part episode 'The Menagerie', a badly disfigured Pike was played by Sean Kenney.
