Jay Johnston, an actor on “Bob’s Burgers,” “Arrested Development” and more, was charged by the Department of Justice for participating in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, according to court documents.
Johnston was arrested Wednesday in California, according to NBC News, which broke the news. He faces charges for felony obstruction of officers during civil disorder, in addition to other misdemeanor offenses.
In March 2021, the FBI tweeted a photo of Johnston in the crowd of rioters at the Capitol on Jan. 6 and requested information on his identity. In the court documents, the DOJ identified Johnston via multiple images of him captured on officer body-cam footage, bystander video and CCTV feeds. Johnston could be seen wearing a green camouflage neck gaiter and a dark leather jacket on Capitol grounds. With other rioters, he took a stolen Capitol Police riot shield to create a “shield wall” and push against a line officers.

Tina Belcher (Dan Mintz) is perpetually stuck on the cusp of teenhood. After all, she's a character on an animated sitcom, which means she doesn't get to age. The eldest daughter of Bob (H. John Benjamin) and Linda (John Roberts) is desperately hormonal and fascinated by boys and butts (and especially boys' butts). She is ready to be a woman, but she isn't ready to give up her vivid imagination. She's eager to grow up but content to sink back into childhood. In short, she's a bundle of contradictions, and that's why we love her.
Over the years, "Bob's Burgers" has put Tina through the wringer. She's had her trials and tribulations, and she's occasionally gotten a taste of the grown-up freedom she desires. However, the pressures of being on a long-running sitcom mean she's doomed to continue learning the same lessons over and over. She's afraid of getting in trouble,...

This review of “The Bob’s Burgers Movie” was first published May 23, 2022.
As a non-viewer of the long-running Fox animated comedy “Bob’s Burgers,” I couldn’t immediately quantify why I found “The Bob’s Burgers Movie” to be funny and charming while I was watching it, only to have it mostly whisp away from memory within a few days.
It wasn’t until I watched another TV-based feature film currently in theaters, “Downton Abbey: A New Era,” that I was reminded of the difference between fans and newbies for movies like these. The “Downton” sequel rewards devotees who remember the episode when they opened the Abbey for tourists, or the Dowager Countess’ near-fling with a Russian prince, and “Bob’s Burgers” no doubt does likewise for the fans who have tuned in for 12 seasons.
In this movie version, it’s a hectic week for the Belcher family, as the kids — Tina (voiced by...

Jay Johnston, who voiced Bob Belcher’s (H. Jon Benjamin) business rival Jimmy Pesto in 43 episodes of Bob’s Burgers, has been sidelined from the Fox animated series due to his alleged involvement in the January 6 Capitol Riot.
The Daily Beast reported Friday about Johnston’s indefinite hiatus from the series. While any possible involvement of Johnston in the events of the 6th is unclear, he’s allegedly seen in multiple photos captured at the scene last year by the FBI. Thus far, the actor has been neither arrested nor charged in connection to the riot.
Sources confirm to Deadline that Johnston, who had been recurring on Bob’s Burgers, has not been brought back to do an episode since Jan. 6, 2021, and there are no plans for his character to be featured in the foreseeable future. Reps for Fox and 20th Television Animation, which produces the series, had no comment.

“The Story of Everest” is one of Mr. Show With Bob and David’s most beloved — and most divisive — sketches. In it, an explorer returns to his parents after climbing Mount Everest and, while trying to recount his adventure, accidentally knocks over some trays of thimbles. Over the course of eight long minutes, we see him tell the story, fall, attempt to tell it again, fall, attempt, fall, attempt, fall, fall again, fall yet again, attempt, and then learn that his story has been made into a movie. However, to his dismay, he learns that the movie is about him falling down. We gathered Jay Johnston (who plays the explorer), David Cross (who plays his brother and co-created the show), and Bob Odenkirk (who plays his father and is the other co-creator of the show) to discuss the origins and execution of this arduous bit.Jay Johnston: We were...

“Hey, everybody! It's Bob and David!”
This Friday, Netflix will release four episodes of W/Bob & David, a new sketch show that reunites the cast of HBO's ground-breaking comedy series Mr. Show With Bob & David. For comedy fans of all stripes, this is unspeakably good news.
Mr. Show ran for 30 episodes (plus two clip show specials) between 1995 and 1998. It didn't set the world alight in terms of audience figures, but its weird and wonderful stylings mark it as a forerunner to shows like The Sarah Silverman Show, Portlandia, Key & Peele, Inside Amy Schumer and Tim & Eric Awesome Show! Great Job. To many of the alternative comedians currently working and coming up, Mr. Show is nothing short of the American answer to Monty Python's Flying Circus.

Even before the days of Peak TV in America, it was impossible for everyone to watch everything on television. We all have pop culture gaps. One of mine is "Mr. Show with Bob and David," the HBO sketch comedy show, created by and starring Bob Odenkirk and David Cross, that aired from 1995-98, and that employed Jack Black, Sarah Silverman, Paul F. Tompkins, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Scott Aukerman and more as actors and/or writers. I was in college when "Mr. Show" debuted, then didn't have an HBO subscription for the next couple of years, and by the time I started hearing comedy nerd friends singing its praises, it was virtually over, and though the series had an afterlife on DVD(*), other shows kept getting in the way. I've seen, and laughed heartily at, a handful of sketches over the years on YouTube, but that's it. (*) Like many of HBO's...

Before they were in shows such as Better Call Saul and Arrested Development, Bob Odenkirk and David Cross were a prime comedy duo, pumping out series such as Mr. Show. They’ve reunited for more sketches in a show for Netflix called W/ Bob & David, and the trailer is below. Before Tobias Funke and Saul Goodman, there was just David Cross and Bob Odenkirk, and they were the team behind "Mr. Show," the excellent, short-lived sketch comedy show on HBO. Now, two decades after the first season aired, the duo are back, this time on Netflix, with a new show, "W/ Bob & David," and it looks like they haven't missed a step. Featuring faces both old (Jay Johnston) and new (Keegan-Michael Key), it looks and feels just like "Mr. Show," though you can actually see the live audience this time around. Even their distinct brand of humor seems to come back fully intact, and it feels like fans of the original series will be picking up right where they left off. Like most animated shows, the Bob’s Burgers cast reads like an all-star list from other tv shows or well-known comedy troupes. Whether it’s starring cast, recurring regular, or one-time guest star, there are plenty of cast reunions taking place on the best show on TV about a restaurant – here are but a few of the crossovers we uncovered. Parks and Recreation – Aziz Ansari (Darryl), Ben Schwartz (Josh), Megan Mullaly (Gayle), H. Jon Benjamin (Bob, various) If you’re doubting the influence of Parks and Recreation on American culture, look no further than the Bob’s Burgers cast (and Guardians of the Galaxy, of course – Chris Pratt’s life will never be the same), which has employed a number of Parks and Rec alums for recurring roles on Fox’s best animated show – or in H. Jon Benjamin’s case, the starring role on the show. Mr. Show with Bob and David...

In a new interview, the cast and crew of the original Anchorman go behind the scenes of the first film's memorable, massive reporter beatdown scene.
In the five-minute scene, Will Ferrell's character Ron Burgundy and his news team face off with other news groups led by Vince Vaughn, Luke Wilson, Tim Robbins and Ben Stiller (Stiller as the leader of a Spanish-language news team). It's one of the most over-the-top and hilarious parts of the movie, and it even gets a nod in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, which came out today.

Because animated comedy Hell & Back didn’t already boast a bulging cast list, directors Tom Gianas and Ross Shuman have added yet another name to the roster. Susan Sarandon has climbed aboard, and she’ll be voicing an angel named Barb.Hell & Back finds best mates Remy (Nick Swardson) and Augie (TJ Miller) journeying into the Inferno to rescue a mate who has accidentally been dragged down there. The voice cast includes (very deep breath) Mila Kunis, who signed on in March, Jennifer Coolidge, Rob Riggle, Danny McBride, Bob Odenkirk, Kerri Kenney, Michael Pena, David Koechner, JB Smoove, Brian Posehn, Greg Proops, Seth Morris and Jay Johnston, among others. Suffice to say, it’ll be distinctly R-rated, no-holds-barred comedy. With a script by Robot Chicken veterans Zeb Wells and Hugh Sterbakov, it’s going through the stop-motions right now and is set for release… Well, it hasn’t locked that particular detail in just yet,...

Chicago – Shout Factory has become a spectacular DVD studio for a mix of unexpected releases. They have their stable of classic TV but they also own the rights to some modern favorites which leads to unique box sets like “The Sarah Silverman Program: The Complete Series.” Comedy Central gave up on the cult hit after three seasons and so parent company Paramount decided to also give up on releasing the accompanying DVD reviews. The third season was released by Shout Factory last week and the other three releases from Paramount (season two was split into two volumes) have been compiled into one box set.
Rating: 4.0/5.0
Sarah Silverman is crazy talented. She has a unique comedic voice and it’s a shame that Comedy Central couldn’t find a way to turn that talent into a mega-hit. “The Sarah Silverman Program” may have never taken off like “Chappelle’s Show” but...

Bob's Burgers Previews: Demolishing the Taffy Factory
Bob's Burgers is, for my money, the most underrated show on network television today. After starting its first season out a little slowly, it hit its stride around the season midpoint and only grew sillier, sweeter, and more self-assured by its May finale. Unfortunately, it's been toiling in Hiatusville ever since, in a move to make room for Allen Gregory and Napoleon Dynamite, but now that both have ended their respective runs, it's back to the boardwalk.
On tonight's episode of Bob's Burgers, titled "The Belchies", there's rumors of a buried treasure inside an old, dilapidated taffy factory and Louise, Gene, and Tina go to investigate. They even come across a supposed treasure map, courtesy of Teddy, but the factory isn't all it seems. Namely, it's scheduled to be demolished very soon and Bob and Linda have to track down the kids before the building implodes around them.

To little surprise, Comedy Central has cancelled The Sarah Silverman Program after three seasons on the air.
The Sarah Silverman Program revolves around a fictionalized version of comic Sarah Silverman. Unemployed and immature, she depends on her sister Laura (Laura Silverman) to take care of her. Their friends include a pair of gay neighbors (Brian Posehn and Steve Agee) and dim-witted Officer Jay McPherson (Jay Johnston). Recurring characters have been played by Rob Schrab, Tig Notaro, Eddie Pepitone, Justin Roiland, Mike Ivy, Murray Gershenz, Armen Weitzman, Johnnie Walker, Eric Marseglia, Mark Cohen, Lindsey Stoddart, Ron Lynch, and Scott Chernoff.
The offbeat sitcom debuted in February 2007 and attracted 1.8 million viewers and a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That was one of Comedy Central's biggest premieres to date and prompted a season two renewal soonafter.

The Sarah Silverman Program is always hilarious and season 2, volume 2 is no exception. In this collection, Sarah is joined by her sister Laura (played by Laura Silverman, Sarah’s actual sister), Laura’s boyfriend Jay (Jay Johnston), her gay-bors (gay neighbors) Brian and Steve (Brian Posehn and Steve Agee), and her dog Doug for some of her wackiest adventures yet.
While this is clearly Sarah’s show, every character gets his or her turn in the limelight. For example, in the episode “Mongolian Beef” Steve creates short films which are so awesomely bad that he is chosen to make a reenactment film for Sarah’s trial against the country of Mongolia. Likewise, in “Pee,” Brian grows a freakishly long beard that gets stuck in the elevator machinery when he falls, but he won’t let the mall people cut it off. Jay confesses to a nocturnal emission on live television,...

Chicago – Demetri Martin and Sarah Silverman are now back-to-back on Thursday nights on Comedy Central with “Important Things With Demetri Martin” and “The Sarah Silverman Program” and the two incredibly talented comedians make for a perfect fit as both shows have similar strengths and weaknesses.
Television Rating: 3.0/5.0
Why is it that I like Martin and love Silverman and yet I find their shows more “original” or “interesting” than straight-up funny? The fact is that both comedians are more talented than the overall quality of their individual shows. Neither show is anywhere near a waste of time and both season premieres feature moments where their star’s talents shine through, but both are also classic cases of hit-and-miss comedy with a few too many misses to unabashedly recommend.

With the fall season getting in full swing, the Sarah Silverman Program is ready to get back into the comedic action with its third season premiering tonight at 10:30pm. Moreover, it seems that the production has decided to call it Season 2B, as in the continuation of the second season, instead of season 3.

"The Sarah Silverman Program" got off to a promising start for Comedy Central.
The network's new original series drew an average of 1.8 million total viewers last week in its premiere. That figure makes the show's debut the best for a Comedy Central original since the premiere of the animated series "Drawn Together" (2.2 million viewers) in 2004.
"Silverman", which premiered from 10:30-11 p.m. Thursday, also garnered 1.3 million viewers in adults 18-49, making it Thursday's most-watched primetime cable program in the demo.
The series features Sarah Silverman playing a character -- named Sarah Silverman -- whose absurd daily life is told through an array of scripted scenes and song. The show co-stars her real-life sister Laura Silverman, Brian Posehn, Steve Agee and Jay Johnston.
