Alfred Molina is starring in the upcoming Prime Video series "Three Pines." It's an adaptation of the beloved and best-selling mystery novel series by Louise Penny, focused on Chief Inspector Armand Gamache. There are eight episodes in the season, though the novel series is 17 books long. That's a lot of story to mine from. It's set in Canada, and the production was filmed in both Montreal and rural Quebec.
This is the first Canada-based production for Left Bank, which is the production company behind the Netflix series "The Crown," about the royal family of the United Kingdom. Production began on the Canadian Amazon Original drama series in September 2021. If you haven't heard of Armande Gamache, it's time to start reading, and watching when the series premieres. The Washington Post named Gamache the most beloved fictional detective in a 2021 reader survey. That puts him ahead of both Hercule Poirot from Agatha...

Ghy Culture & Media, a mainland China-focused entertainment company from Singapore, has launched a slate of short drama series that it says mirror the professionally-generated short format developed by Chinese platforms Douyin and Bilibili. Its first three are fantasy “Goddess Hotel,” urban fantasy-light comedy “Miss Tanya” and sci-fi comedy “Ability Bureau.” Each short drama series is slated to run for 2 or 3 seasons, with 12 to 16 episodes per season, and each episode delivered at approximately 3 minutes. Involving Singapore production teams and actors, each project is estimated to cost between S350,000 to S1.6 million to produce. Ghy describes the slate as Singapore-China collaborations, but it does not disclose if there is a Chinese co-producer. Instead, it reveals that they will be simultaneously released on Douyin and TikTok, Douyin’s global English counterpart, with versions in English, Bahasa Indonesian and Thai. The espionage exploits of Section 20 will, indeed, continue with Cinemax’s order for Strike Back Season 6.
Strike Back Season 6 is coming soon to Cinemax.
The niche-audience nature of the series continues to mirror the clandestine nature of the premise, which depicts British Intelligence secret multinational special ops team Section 20, a deadly-effective, but unacknowledged force. The long-running series, which can name plenty of prominent cast alumni, came back for Season 5 in October 2017 with a soft reboot of sorts, affixed with the subtitle, Retribution, brandishing fresh new cast members and a new mission. Fortunately for the fans, Cinemax gave the order for Strike Back Season 6 in March 2018, even before the Season 5 finale arrived.
