His bald, wheelchair-bound villain in the opening sequence of For Your Eyes Only (1981) was, quite obviously, Ernst Stavro Blofeld. However, he remained uncredited because of legal disputes over the rights to the previous Bond, Thunderball (1965), and its characters.
In 1952, he appeared at Scotland's Pitlochry Festival Theatre, in the play "The Witch". One of his fellow players was actress Gabrielle Hamilton, whom he would marry the following year. They would divorce by the mid-1960s (following the birth of their daughter, future child star Sarah Hollis Andrews) but would appear together again years later on TV in Strike It Rich! (1986) and The Great Kandinsky (1995).
Some sources incorrectly list his birth date as January 24, 1931. This date actually refers to a John Digby Hollis who died in November 2005 in the Nottinghamshire district of the UK.
