The centerpiece of “Love, Weddings & Other Disasters” is a sweetly engaging story about the improbable autumnal romance between an impossibly demanding celebrity caterer, played by a perfectly cast Jeremy Irons, and the age-appropriate, sight-impaired free spirit (a very winning Diane Keaton) who manages to locate a warm heart beneath his frosty demeanor. Unfortunately — indeed, tragically — this appealing narrative is paid only sporadic attention during the run of writer-director Dennis Dugan’s haphazard amalgamation of loosely interconnected storylines that, save for the scenes involving Keaton and Irons, run the gamut from blandly predictable to overbearingly unfunny.
To put it another way: If “Love, Actually” had actually been as bad as its most vociferous detractors have long insisted, it would have looked and sounded a lot like this misfire.
Most of the events are driven in various ways by the upcoming wedding of a Boston mayoral candidate (Dennis Staroselsky) who frets...

Chicago – Dennis Dugan, in directing Adam Sandler (“Happy Gilmore”), Chris Farley (“Beverly Hills Ninja”) and John Ritter (“Problem Child”), can rightly be considered a comedy director icon. He also for his latest film, “Love, Weddings & Other Disasters,” developed the story and wrote the screenplay for the first time.
An impending wedding is the backdrop for the film, as it weaves multiple storylines regarding the search for love by a colorful group of characters. They include an inexperienced wedding planner nicknamed “The Wedding Trasher” (Maggie Grace), a fussy celebrity caterer (Jeremy Irons) negotiating a “blind date” (Diane Keaton) and a Duck Boat tour guide (Andrew “King Bach” Bachelor) looking for his Cinderella. It all comes together, connecting the love encounters and the nuptials. The film also features Melinda Hill, Jesse McCartney and even director Dugan takes a role.

Chicago – When we last talked to Melinda Hill, it was for her stand-up comedy special “Inappropriate.” It also turns out that she acts in a new film, the ensemble comedy “Love, Weddings & Other Disasters,” directed by Dennis Dugan and featuring Diane Keaton, Jeremy Irons, and Maggie Grace, among others.

It all comes together, connecting the love encounters and the nuptials. The film also features Andrew Bachelor, Jesse McCartney and director Dennis Dugan talking on a role.

The title promises disaster, and the movie delivers: “Love, Weddings & Other Disasters” is a witless, charmless, barely-written, indifferently acted, hideously shot, and generally odious waste of 90 minutes.
In stringing together various overlapping love stories, all of them thoroughly irritating and utterly lacking in human insight, writer-director Dennis Dugan seems to be auditioning to take over the painfully inane ensemble pieces of late-period Garry Marshall. I once joked that Marshall’s “Valentine’s Day” made “Love Actually” look like “Nashville,” but “Love, Weddings & Other Disasters” makes “Valentine’s Day” look like “The Shop Around the Corner.”
Dugan has spent the last quarter-century as one of the main co-conspirators of the Happy Madison Death-of-Cinema Fun Factory, but his terrible Adam Sandler movies (including “I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry” and “Grown Ups 2”) at least offer the allure of big names collecting a paycheck in movies that might not be funny...

Louis C.K.'s surprise return to stand-up -- to the delight of some and dismay of others -- has full support from some very important people in the comedy world ... the guys running the clubs. TMZ's learned several comedy hot spots in NYC would gladly welcome Louis back, despite his fall from grace last year after he copped to sexual misconduct. Louis Faranda, talent exec of Carolines on Broadway, tells us ... the comedian is...

Louis C.K. has every right to return to standup comedy, with one major caveat ... something that was missing from his surprise set in NYC ... according to a fellow comedian. Melinda Hill's response to Louis' Sunday night appearance included #MeTooSoon ... and the hashtag has caught fire during the debate about the disgraced comedian. Still, Melinda tells us she's actually not against C.K. getting back onstage. She even understands his desire to perform again, but...

Six years ago, Maria Bamford launched The Maria Bamford Show, a novel web series that stands as one of the best of its era. We've seen a few new web offerings from Bamford since then, and her latest work takes her to Funny or Die, where she is the co-creator and star of a web series called The Program. The Program stars Bamford as Peace, an upbeat woman whose"PhD in Medieval Studies" and her "real problem with working" have landed her $200,000 in debt. To help combat her financial situation, she runs "Debtors Anonymous", a version of Alcoholics Anonymous catered to people who are deep into debt. Debtors Anonymous attracts a few familiar faces, including Oscar Nuñez of The Office fame, former SNLer Jerry Minor, and Melinda Hill, who co-created the show alongside Bamford. Bamford and Hill have a long creative history together; they co-founded L.A. stand-up show What's Up Tiger Lily?...

The latest series on the My Damn Channel Comedy Network stars a blonde comedienne playing a fictional version of herself, but no, it's not Ask My Mom. Melinda Hill is the star of Romantic Encounters, which features a series of her failed overtures as she desperately seeks a soul mate. The first episode shows promise. It's not every day we get to watch a web series that features a woman dressed like she just stepped out of Robot Unicorn Attack launching herself out of a cake. While Hill is the star, the series also features an array of talented male comedians as her various love interests. Performers who will show up on Romantic Encounters include Dana Gould, Steve Little, Carlos Alazraqui, Drew Droege, and Bryan Callen. Romantic Encounters is produced by Meetinghouse Productions, a company that is best known (at least to me) for its Jack Link's beef jerky commercials.

Twelve Youtube performers made their best attempts at going viral last night, but only four rose victorious. Did your favorite act deliver a memorable routine? After America's finger-dialing votes, America's Got Talent whittled down the playing field from 12 to four on the Aug. 15 episode. Despite explosive hype surrounding the performances last night, only a handful proved to be able to sustain a certain level of viral marketability. Plus, Karmin — the super hot duo that began as a YouTube cover group — scorched the stage and demonstrated exactly what it means to want the limelight. Justin Bieber, who recently released a brand new album, aired a clip of his new music video "As Long as You Love Me." (Lest you forget, his career, too, began on the small screen.) And Randel, a Yt comedian, took the stage in a little judging-gouging segment of his own. In between the musical performances and videos,...

Years before Thomas Jane played a sex-obsessed gigolo on "Hung" ... he played a sex-obsessed woman who was obsessed with humping closet doors -- but no one ever saw the footage ... until now. It all went down at the L.A. home of Jane's ex-gf Melinda Hill back in 1998 ... when the two aspiring actors were goofing around and decided to make a "crazy" improv movie ... which they shot with a VHS camera. In the "flick," Jane...

Long before Kristen Wiig was cracking us up in "Bridesmaids," the Western New York native was honing her comedy chops with The Groundlings improv troupe in L.A. In case you never got to see the funny lady perform for you live in those early years, NextMovie has dug up the next best thing.
In this authentic video, Wiig and her troupe mate Melinda Hill (who has since appeared on "The Sarah Silverman Program" and "Glory Daze") perform one of their most popular sketches, "Confessions of a Tooth Fairy."
As a bonus, Wiig appears to be wearing a bridesmaid dress -- a coincidental discovery considering last weekend's premiere of "Bridesmaids?" You tell us.
