- Herbig spent his childhood and teenage years in Munich. After graduating from school, he trained as a photographer. By chance he got a job as a presenter at "Radio Gong" in 1992. In 1995 he moved to "Radio Energy" for a year. There he created the program "Langemann and the Morning Crew" under the pseudonym "Bully". Michael Herbig has also appeared in web spots and numerous TV productions, such as "The True Grand Prix". His first great popularity was the 800-episode radio comedy series "Die Bayern Cops", for which he was awarded the "BLM Radio Prize" for comedy. In the same year, 1996, he founded his own production company called "herbX Medienproduktion". In addition to Bully's well-known work, content for several other comedy programs was also created. Bully's breakthrough came with the self-produced show "Bullyparade", which was shown on Pro7. In this project, Bully was both a writer and actor as well as a director and producer. The show was nominated twice for the "Golden Rose of Montreux" comedy award and once for the German Television Award 2000.
The new quality of his sketches lay in the implementation. They were either impressive in terms of their lavishness or simplicity. They were mostly based on parodies. His most successful works were adaptations to various series, films and commercials. His other productions included the lead role in the RTL film "Die Bademeister", the weekly nationwide radio show "Bully's Late Light Show" and the Pro7 program "Easy Bully". He released his first comedy radio play on CD in 1998 under the title "Bully - Feines Fressi". Bully celebrated his directing debut in a cinema production in 1999 with the film "Erkan & Stefan". In the Walt Disney animated film "A Kingdom for a Llama" in 2000, Bully lent his voice to the main character "Lama - Kusko", and shortly afterwards his second comedy radio play entitled "Dream Ship" was released. In order to carry out further work, he founded the company "herbX film" in 2000. Bully finally became a star with the film "The Shoe of Manitu" (2001). Bully plays an Indian double role in a highly amusing reference to the adventure film adaptations of Karl May's novels.
The comedy "The Shoe of Manitu", which he also directed, became the most successful German cinema production to date. The work was awarded the most prestigious prizes in the German media landscape. Like the CD "Traumschiff", this film is also an intellectual offshoot of a sketch series from the "Bullyparade". In the same year, Michael "Bully" Herbig had a guest role as a doctor in the German film "Tough Guys" (2001). In July 2004, "(T)Raumschiff Surprise - Period 1" was released in German cinemas. As in his first cinema production, Michael Herbig worked here as author, director and leading actor. On September 13, 2004, Michael Herbig and Rick Kavanian's comedy show started on Pro7 called "Bully and Rick". In the successful comedy series, the two played all the roles themselves, wrote the books and thus gave the series their very own signature. Michael Herbig was named best comedian at the German Comedy Prize in 2004, and he received a "Bambi" in November 2004 for "(T)Raumschiff Surprise".
At the 55th German Film Awards in July 2005, Herbig moderated the evening. In October 2005, the show "Bully and Rick" received the German Comedy Prize in the "Best Sketch Comedy" category. Herbig was again in the cinema in the film adaptation of the radio play classic "Hui Buh, das Schlossgespenst". As a computer-animated ghost, he tries to regain his license to spook. In 2006 he received the "Peter Frankenfeld Prize" for artistic versatility and humanitarian commitment. In 2008, Herbig filmed the animated series "Wickie and the Strong Men" as a feature film for the cinema. In 2012 he was awarded the Bernd Eichinger Prize at the 62nd German Film Awards. He asserted himself as a director in the serious genre with the film "Balloon" (2018). The Trill deals with the escape of the Strelzyk and Wetzel families from the GDR to West Germany with a self-made hot air balloon.
In 2019, Herbig was awarded the "Peace Prize of German Film - The Bridge" for "Balloon". The film "The Boandlkramer and Eternal Love" followed in 2020.- IMDb Mini Biography By: Christian_Wolfgang_Barth
