The shocking new horror film Hellbilly Hollow will close the 20th edition of the New York City Horror Film Festival (Nychff), to be held at Cinépolis Luxury Cinemas (260 West 23rd Street) December 1 to 4, 2022.
After wowing fans with clips and guest speakers at Burbank’s Son of Monsterpalooza convention in October, Hellbilly Hollow will now make its World Premiere on Sunday, December 4 at the New York City Horror Film Festival, attended by director/actor Kevin Wayne and producer/actor Kurt Deimer. Rising rockstar Deimer also contributed songs to the film’s rousing heavy metal soundtrack. Hellbilly Hollow was produced by Andy Gould, who previously produced Rob Zombie’s The Devil’s Rejects, 31, Lords of Salem and Zombie’s two Halloween films, among others.
In Hellbilly Hollow, Deimer and Wayne play horribly scarred—and seriously twisted —brothers Bull and Tickles. The demented siblings run the titular haunted attraction, weaving in real murders and mayhem into their staged shenanigans.

Back in November 2012, I attended the New York City Horror Film Festival for the first time. Why was it only my first time? Honestly, I can’t answer that question, because I was living right outside the Big Apple all my life, and horror became my favorite genre sometime in my college years. No excuse, but since I was lucky enough to attend as a press member, being my first actual festival experience for We Got This Covered, I’d say it was worth the wait.
Before I launch into my few days of watching movies, listening to horror icons, and slugging back a few brewskis, you’re probably also wondering why I’m choosing to write this article now, so many months later. Well, since I covered almost every film (damn weather) and every short with a proper review, I figured I’d save my experience piece until close...

On July 9, Tribeca Cinemas lost a great friend and partner in Michael J. Hein, the Director of the NYC Horror Film Festival. He passed away unexpectedly at the age of 41. Michael's untimely passing has sent shockwaves throughout the film community, and hits especially hard for the Tribeca Cinemas team. The NYC Horror Film Festival has been hosted by Tc for the past 7 years and, during that time, has become known as one of the premiere destinations for genre filmmaking and deliciously gory fun. Michael could be found on any given night of the festival, introducing films, taking the time to discuss the fine art of horror with fans and filmmakers, and holding court in the adjacent bar where festival attendees mingled. What set Michael and his festival apart from so many others was the genuine sense of passion that could be felt during the event. He lived his life ...

Michael once said to me, “Filmmaking is not an art, it’s a science.” Like any absolutism or black and white one-liner, this was only half-true.
Good filmmaking takes lots of planning. A producer and director must coordinate cast and crew. They must find locations. They must plan the composition and camera movement of each and every single shot.
But where this becomes a half-truth is at the very beginning of the process: the script. Writing a script is like painting a picture, writing a song, creating any form of art. It begins with emotion and turns into a process of agony. Of blood, sweat, and tears. Writing is cathartic. And this was Michael’s greatest secret.
I met Michael two years ago. He heard I was putting together a film. My crew and I made that film, and we submitted it to Michael’s festival. He personally called me...

Last fall, I attended the eighth annual New York City Horror Film Festival, one of the best places to meet and greet others in the horror world. The fest is just large enough to host a roster of terrific feature and short movies and panels, and just intimate enough to allow you to get to know the talented filmmakers from all over the world. Director Michael Hein has secured a perfect location: The Tribeca Cinemas, with two theaters and a large bar space that’s perfect for mingling, making new friends and reconnecting with old ones. At last year’s event, I was quite impressed with, and fortunate enough to meet, Rob and Edward Kennedy, two brothers from Dublin, Ireland.

R. Zoe Judd and Michael Hein's new horror film Devil's Grove will screen a brand new cut during the Fright Night Film Festival in Louisville, Ky on August 15th.
"The brand new cut of Devils Grove, one of the most brutal horror films of the last decade, is set to be unleashed for the fans and we couldn't be happier," said NYC based Co-director and producer Michael J. Hein...
"Devil's Grove is certainly Not family friendly. We made this one for the hard core genre fans and the gore gags in the film it reflect that. Definitely not for the PG-13 mainstream horror crowd, it’s gritty, nasty, and leaves you with that 'I need a shower' feeling” after a viewing.
The film was produced almost entirely in Ohio using talent and crew from the Ohio and Kentucky area, so we are extremely excited to be screening it at The Fright Night Film Festival.

Michael J. Hein of MooDude Films has announced that they’ve won distribution and release of two new films, Spiker and Dead Serious; the first a bloody slasher and the second an oddball horror comedy pitting religious zealotry against gays and vampires.
Spiker is about a singularly large pink-eyed albino who has a nasty fetish for slashing victims to death with railroad spikes. A group of teens decide to camp out at an abandoned house, and, as teens are prone to do, ultimately become prey for this remorseless white haired killing machine. What is it with albinos, anyway? They started out shady with Monsieur Zenith, got a bit darker with Elric of Melniboné, and now here they are flat out pricking teenagers to death with railroad spikes. Next they’ll be running for Senate. Spiker stars Frank Zagarino and David ‘Shark’ Fralick and is due out on DVD everywhere on December 15th,...

The gay-and-lesbian-themed Logo channel is premiering a brand new on-air and on-line Thursday-night film series called Graveyard Shift this week on December 4. Among the horror and cult films to be broadcast in this weekly midnight showcase is Dead Serious (pictured), from writer/director Joe Sullivan and writer/producer Michael J. Hein, showing Dec. 11.
Dead Serious, which has played numerous festivals but has yet to secure DVD distribution, tells of a religious zealot and his terrorist cult who take over a gay bar in New York City as part of a plot to rid the world of homosexuality. Little do they know, however, that they’ve incurred the wrath of the undead. Graveyard Shift, which is hosted by a group of late-night “interns,” begins this week with the television premiere of Jaymes Thompson’s The Gay Bed And Breakfast Of Terror, in which five homosexual couples vacationing at the Sahara Salvation...
