After recapturing control of the House on Tuesday, some progressive Democrats were itching for party leaders to finally tackle marijuana and criminal justice reform, but they knew they had a Jeff Sessions-sized road block to overcome. Now that President Trump ingloriously shoved him out as attorney general Wednesday, there’s more optimism that a sweeping overhaul of drug policy is possible.

A bipartisan group of lawmakers fear there are top White House officials actively working to undermine President Trump’s own marijuana policy — a cannabis deep state, of sorts. On the campaign trail back in 2016, Trump advocated allowing each state to craft their own pot policies, and he’s reiterated as much since entering the Oval Office. But that’s not how policy is shaping up.
This week, the Office of National Drug Control Policy (Ondcp) confirmed a report by Buzzfeed that there’s a committee inside the White House devoted to marijuana policy.

We all know Attorney General Jeff Sessions hates marijuana, but it seems he has senior allies within the White House itself who are directing federal agencies to help them vigorously fight against state efforts to legalize marijuana — putting a number of senior administration officials in direct odds with President Trump’s own stated policy of allowing states to decide their own marijuana laws.
Yesterday, Buzzfeed dropped an explosive — and well documented — story on how, within the Trump administration, there is a Marijuana Policy Coordination Committee. According to their report, that...

It all started when Denver Riggleman, an Air Force veteran and distillery owner-turned Republican Congressional nominee in Virginia, posted two Bigfoot drawings on his Instagram account. A shrugging Bigfoot, with a black censored bar covering the genitals, and Riggleman’s face digitally superimposed on the shoulders of another naked North American mythological creature.
Over the weekend, his political opponent in Democrat Leslie Cockburn tweeted the images and accused Riggleman of being a “devotee of Bigfoot erotica.” Cockburn, a former investigative journalist, echoed other media outlets when she tweeted that Riggleman...

It's always a treat visiting a movie set. Being on the set of Souleater, one of my theories were justified. Aside from team sports, one will rarely see a group of people truly working as a cohesive unit as they do when producing a movie. Especially an independent film.
We're not talking millions of dollars, yet one would think that kind of money is at stake, when seeing how hard everyone is pushing themselves. Producer Tyler Martinolich was gracious enough to have me out on the set in nearby Largo, Fl. This night, they were shooting exterior scenes on a piece of old farm land. The house upon this land looked like something out of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Having a 60 ft. crane casting lights down on the naturally creepy looking pad, provided an atmosphere needed for a horror flick. Director Michael D. Lang, staying calm...

Film productions need to see "green" in Florida once again!
This week, Florida's entertainment industry and the overall state economy, has a chance for a rebirth and climb back to its rightful place at the top. House Bill 697 (Entertainment Industry Economic Development) is going to the floor before the House in the next few days. If passed, the entire state of Florida stands to benefit.
Rep. Kevin Ambler has been one of the driving forces behind getting this bill into legislation as co-sponsor. A former entertainment lawyer, Ambler has shown since 2003, that he knows the value of the film industry and how it can help Florida's economy. Speaking at numerous film festivals, and taking part in an array of conferences over the last year. Ambler's passion and knowledge has been contagious to the other House members as well as film industry professionals all over the state.

Everyone involved with the Gasparilla International Film Festival can pat themselves on the back, for this has been the best Giff to date. Although everyone is having a blast and those who have attended were treated to many great shorts and feature flicks. Many of us are waiting to finally get more than 2 hours of sleep. Day 3 had so many wonderful activities going on which contributed to our lack of Zs.
Kicking off the day were a few educational panels at the University of Tampa. One of them revolved around the future of Florida's film industry. The goal is to get more projects to film and do post-production in our great state. On the panel was State Rep. Kevin Ambler, Digital Domain Chairman John Textor, and Tampa Film Commish Lindsey Norris Guthrie along with Miami's Graham Winick who is President of Film Florida.
