The CSI franchise’s return to CBS is coming to an end as CBS on Friday opted not to renew CSI: Vegas for a fourth season.
On Saturday, CSI and CSI: Vegas star Marg Helgenberger who played Catherine Willows for 14 seasons across the original series and the followup, reflected on the cancellation.
“Each & every person involved with the making of this series brought their A game each & every day,” Helgenberger wrote on Instagram next to an on-set photo of the cast. “It was truly a pleasure & honor to work/play alongside such a fun & talented company of story tellers. Immeasurable thanks & gratitude to all for making this experience such a memorable ride. And to all the fans; we did it all for you.”
Lex Medlin, who, like Helgenberger, joined CSI: Vegas as a series regular in Season 2, posted a similar behind-the-scenes cast photo on Ig with a note to fans about the cancellation.

CSI franchise vet Marg Helgenberger is among the first CSI: Vegas cast members to react to the CBS drama’s cancellation after three seasons.

Both “So Help Me Todd” and “CSI: Vegas” have been canceled at CBS, Variety has learned.
“So Help Me Todd” is currently airing its second season at the broadcaster, while “CSI: Vegas” is airing its third. Both shows are scheduled to air their season finales in May, which will now serve as series finales.
The two shows were some of the few CBS shows awaiting words on their fates for next season. The only other CBS shows with pending renewal statuses are “The Equalizer” and “NCIS: Hawai’i.” They are both solid performers, with “So Help Me Todd” averaging 7.7 million viewers an episode in multiplatform Live+35 and “CSI: Vegas” averaging 7.6 million. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, CBS simply did not have enough room on the schedule to bring them back.
In addition to its many previously announced renewals, CBS already has a number of new shows set to debut next season.

CBS has canceled CSI: Vegas after three seasons and So Help Me Todd after two. The news is not surprising as Deadline revealed earlier this week that both dramas were heavily on the bubble and in grave danger.
That despite CSI: Vegas and So Help Me Todd being solid ratings performers. With the entire CBS schedule doing well this season and three new drama series joining in 2024-25, NCIS: Origins, Matlock and Watson (in addition to a second season of the Australian NCIS: Sydney), the network was faced with painful decisions, and So Help Me Todd and CSI: Vegas are the least watched CBS drama series this spring in both linear and multi-platform ratings.
In most current linear Nielsen viewership (2/12 to date), CSI: Vegas, which improved its time period, is at #21 among all non-sports broadcast programs with 6.234M viewers and So Help Me Todd at #22 with 6.224M. That is more...

Christopher Nolan’s movie Memento. (Photo Credit – Instagram/IMDb)
In 2000, Christopher Nolan’s Mememto blew everyone away. The psychological thriller stars Guy Pearce, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jorja Fox, and Joe Pantoliano. It’s the story of a man named Leonardo, who has short-term memory loss and must seek revenge for his wife’s death. Due to his forgettable memory, Leonardo had to rely only on photographs. The film is based on Christopher’s brother Jonathan Nolan’s short story, Memento Mori.
It has been 24 years since Memento was released, and Nolan fans consider it one of his best directorials. The movie has twists and turns and moments that will startle you often. But did you know that when the movie was screened initially, the response was not that great? Jonathan Nolan made this shocking revelation.

This may be the season that CSI: Vegas finally stands on its own two feet.
In its first two seasons, this hybrid has faced a difficult challenge. It's not a revival of the popular series, which ran for 15 seasons on CBS. It isn't a reboot, with new characters repopulating an old concept.
Instead, in its first two seasons, CSI: Vegas has featured a couple of legacy characters to draw in viewers of the original series.
In CSI: Vegas Season 1, power couple Gil Grissom (William Peterson) and Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox) returned to clear the lab's reputation and former lab rat David Hodges (Wallace Langham) from a well-crafted frame.
Meanwhile, seemingly in the background, the lab's new criminologists solved the day-to-day cases.
What Were the Highlights of CSI: Vegas Season 2?
The second season struck a better balance between new and old. It almost had to.
The return of Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger) was well handled.

Another familiar face is headed back to Sin City.
TV Line reported Thursday that Eric Szmanda has closed a deal to return to the CSI universe on an upcoming episode of CSI: Vegas Season 2.
The actor was a pivotal part of the original series, appearing on all 15 seasons when it aired on CBS.
Despite forging ahead with a largely new cast, CSI: Vegas has had some franchise mainstays to appease fans of the original series.
CSI: Vegas Season 1 had Jorja Fox and William Petersen, but they both decided to depart following the opening season of the reboot.
Petersen had a one-season deal, but there was the hope Fox would continue on as Gil Grissom's love interest Sara Sidle.
Fox felt it would be cruel to split up Gil and Sarah again, so announced after the series had been renewed that she would not be back.

CSI star Marg Helgenberger has returned to the show’s universe after 10 years – and viewers are overjoyed.
The original cast member, who plays Catherine Willows, recently signed a one-year deal to reprise the role in spin-off CSI: Vegas.
Helgenberger’s presence was very welcome considering the second season began without longtime stars William Petersen and Jorja Fox, who decided not to return for the spin-off’s follow-up.
During Catherine’s time away from the world of CSI, she retired to help mentor women in forensic science.
She explained the reason behind her return to fellow character Maxine (Paula Newsome), stating: “The job is in my blood.”
There appears to be more than meets the eye, though. It emerges that one of the girls Catherine was mentoring has gone missing.

After a decade-long absence from the world of yellow tape and bloody corpses, Marg Helgenberger reprised her role as Catherine Willows Thursday on CBS’ CSI: Vegas. It seems her character’s so-called “retirement” — which involved serving on the board of the Eclipse hotel and mentoring young women in forensic science — wasn’t that fulfilling, so the episode began with her asking Maxine (Paula Newsome) for her old gig back.
Fortunately, there were a couple of job openings since Gil (William Petersen) and Sara (Jorja Fox) were never replaced after leaving at the end of last season. Apparently, the Grissoms are currently on a boat in the Arctic circle but in real life, Petersen only signed for one year on CSI: Vegas while Fox chose not to return for a second season.

It takes until the very end of the CSI: Vegas Season 2 premiere, but we do find out the personal reason she wants back in after she skirts Maxine Roby’s (Paula Newsome) questions earlier. Sonja Flemming/CBS And Max does ask why “one of the best to ever do” the job wants to come back when they sit down at the beginning of “She’s Gone.” But Catherine replies that when Max said: “the job is in my blood” in her toast at her retirement party, she had a point. She also points out that Max is shorthanded, as Gil mentioned. “Didn’t help that he stole his wife away and that one of my best is out in LA training with the FBI.” (Jorja Fox, who returned ...

The two characters are sailing somewhere around the Arctic Circle, according to CSI Joshua Folsom (Matt Lauria).

"They're on a boat above the Arctic Circle, so yeah, she probably dialled them up on a sat phone asking all about you, Chris," Joshua is heard saying in the clip to Chris (Jay Lee).
The aforementioned clip finds Chris wondering what the returning Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger) had to say about the new team.
However, it sounds like Catherine will be coming back to the team with...

Where in the world are Sara Sidle and Gil Grissom when Season 2 of CSI: Vegas opens up? TVLine’s exclusive sneak peek at the new season has the answer to that question.
Though both Jorja Fox and William Petersen reprised their original CSI roles in Season 1, the latter had only signed on for that initial 10-episode run (but stayed on as an executive producer). Fox subsequently announced that she would not continue on either, explaining, “I personally just can’t split Sara and Grissom up again…. Wherever they go, they belong together.”

Marg Helgenberger returns to the CSI franchise for the first time in seven years later this month.
Helgenberger returns as Catherine Willows for CSI: Vegas Season 2 in a one-year deal.
The star opened up about her big return to the universe Friday at CBS' TCA panel.
“I wanted to make sure there was a reason Catherine would come back to the job,” the actress said of returning to reporters.
“It’s a tough gig. Why would Catherine, at this age, come back? That was important to me."
"I had several conversations with [showrunner] Jason Tracey about that. I really want to get it right and we did," Helgenberger adds.
The star's deal keeps her back in the universe for one year, and she said she felt the love with the new cast instantly.

CSI: Vegas was dealt a king and a queen in its hand last season with the return of original cast favorites William Petersen and Jorja Fox. Now, following their exit, the reboot pulls an ace by bringing back Marg Helgenberger as Catherine Willows — blood spatter expert, former stripper, and all-around badass. “She gets wind of some illicit dealings at the Eclipse,” executive producer Jason Tracey says of the casino Catherine’s crooked father built. “Harm has befallen some of her friends. Enemies have been made.” Bonus: Hers isn’t the only familiar face we see in Season 2. For one, Katie Stevens, aka Catherine’s daughter Lindsey, appears in a spotlight episode written for Helgenberger by series creator Anthony E. Zuiker. “It’s always fun to catch up with CSI legends,” Tracey teases. But first, the legendary Helgenberger tells us more. What were those early talks like? Marg Helgenberger: The first season,...

We're (finally!) closing in on the fall season.
The broadcast and cable networks have largely avoided original scripted content this summer.
Thankfully, fresh episodes of our favorite shows are in sight.
But there will be some big cast changes.
Check them out below.
Chicago P.D. - Jesse Lee Soffer
Soffer is bowing out the One Chicago series in the fall, after spending 10 seasons as a series regular.
“I want to thank the incredible fans for their unwavering support during the past 10 years and want to express my deepest gratitude to Dick Wolf and everyone at Wolf Entertainment, Peter Jankowski, Matt Olmstead, Derek Haas, Michael Brandt, Rick Eid, Gwen Sigan, NBC, Universal Television, my fellow castmates and our incredible crew,” Soffer said in a statement.
“To create this hour drama week after week has been a labor of love by everyone who touches the show."

We are fast approaching the premiere of CSI: Vegas Season 2, and we're getting more clarity on who's in and who's out.
According to Deadline, Sara Amini has been tapped to succeed Mel Rodriguez's Chief Medical Examiner Hugo Ramirez.
Sarah Amini (Future Man) will play Sonya, while Joel Johnstone (Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) is set to play Jack, the assistant medical examiner.
We will also see family dynamics at play because these two new characters are siblings.
They join fellow new additions Led Medlin (Drop Dead Diva) and Ariana Guerra (Promised Land).
Medlin is set to play Beau, "who spent the last two decades as one of Dow Chemical’s top research scientists," according to Deadline.
Beau decided it was time to do more meaningful work and took a massive pay cut by following his heart.
He is the most overqualified CSI Level 1 of all time, which should make for some fun TV.

The US House of Representatives has passed (278-134) a bill to ban private possession, public contact and increase restrictions on the breeding, trade, and exploitation of big cats.
The Big Cat Public Safety Act (HR263/ S1210), sponsored by Representative Mike Quigley and Senator Richard Blumenthal, now heads to the Senate floor.
Animal Defenders International (Adi) is joined by a variety of celebrities calling on the public to support the bill, which focuses on the private ownership, trade, and breeding of certain species – it is directly aimed at backyard breeders, roadside zoos, cub petting, & photo operations – the ‘Joe Exotics’ in the US.
Captive big cats are frequently declawed, though the practice is prohibited by the Usda since 2005, and often have smashed teeth. Exhibitors rely upon physical abuse, severe confinement, and drugs to put these dangerous species in direct contact with the public, endangering both the animal and humans. This perpetuates the...

We never can say goodbye, and that is especially true when it comes to beloved TV shows. The post-finale spinoff has always been a popular way to keep a franchise going.
In recent decades, some of these spinoffs have been just as good as the original: I would lead with “Frasier,” out of “Cheers,” of course, which put Kelsey Grammer’s character front and center, making him just as iconic as Ted Danson’s Sam Malone. And “Better Call Saul,” an idea that began as a bit of a lark when “Breaking Bad” was ending. Of course, Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould wound up creating something richer — a show led by Bob Odenkirk and Rhea Seehorn that went to dramatically dense places no one could have predicted. It’s an immediate spin-off all-timer. “The Good Fight” continued the legacy of “The Good Wife,” but shifted the focus to Christine Baranski.

Marg Helgenberger has closed a deal to return to the CSI universe in the role of Catherine Willows.
Deadline reports that the fan-favorite will be a series regular for CSI: Vegas Season 2.
What's more, the deal is said to be for one year, so it will likely be another self-contained story.
News of Helgenberger's involvement was teased earlier this week by TV Line, who revealed the veteran star was in talks to stage a comeback.
Helgenberger was the original female lead opposite William Petersen on the original CSI.
News of Helgenberger's involvement in the reboot comes after her status on All Rise has been confirmed.
All Rise, originally a CBS drama, was canceled last year.
Helgenberger subsequently booked an NBC pilot that did not go forward, but it has since been confirmed she will be back in a recurring role on All Rise Season 3 on OWN.

Marg Helgenberger has signed on to return to the CSI franchise. She is set to star in Season 2 of CBS’ CSI: Vegas, reprising her role as Catherine Willows from the original CSI. I hear Helgenberger will be a series regular with a one-year deal.
On CSI: Vegas, Helgenberger succeeds fellow original CSI cast members William Petersen and Jorja Fox who were series regulars in Season 1 of the sequel to the mothership series. Her casting allows CSI: Vegas to maintain its connection to the 2000 series with a beloved original character working alongside the new forensic investigators. With Petersen, Fox and Helgenberger, CSI: Vegas also has set a blueprint for event-izing each season with a different original star, which also fits into the new format of the series as each season is tackling a new serialized mystery.
