Fisk season one was a game changer when it came to good comedic writing coupled with simple yet effective performances. Kitty Flanagan, who has starred in and written this show, managed to create a niche for herself in the first season. The second season by Kitty Flanagan and Tom Peterson is an extension of the world they created in the first installment, and it is far more hilarious.

Porchlight Films’ Fisk has triumphed at Series Mania in France, taking out the Best Series Award in the comedy competition.
The legal comedy was one of only seven series chosen for the competition screening, joining Bloods (US), Brigade Mobile (France), Frank of Ireland (Ireland and UK), Hacks (USA), Georges and Ferdinand Tribulations (France), and Starstruck (UK).
Written, co-directed, and starring comedian Kitty Flanagan, the ABC-ordered comedy follows Helen Tudor-Fisk (Flanagan), a previously a high-end contracts solicitor who finds herself in the low rent world of wills and probate when she takes the job at Gruber & Gruber, following a humiliating marriage breakdown and professional fall from grace.
Speaking about the win, Flanagan said it was pleasing to see the program resonate globally.
“I’m absolutely thrilled, especially when you look at the competition, we were certainly the scrappy underdog in the fight,” she said.

ABC comedy Fisk, created, written, directed by and starring Kitty Flanagan, follows Helen Tudor-Fisk, a corporate contract lawyer forced to take a job at a shabby suburban law firm specialising in wills and probate.
Helen (Flanagan) is not good with people. When her personal and professional lives implode spectacularly in Sydney, Helen runs home to Melbourne and takes a job at the suburban Gruber & Gruber. Helen is brought in to replace Roz Gruber (Julia Zemiro), a recently-suspended solicitor who has temporarily appointed herself the office manager. No longer allowed to sit in with clients, Roz now has nothing else to do but get all up in Helen’s business.
Ray Gruber (Sheargold), Roz’s brother, hires Helen in a fit of laziness but also because Helen is a ‘mature lady’ which has proven to be the preferred option for clients who are grieving. Unfortunately, Helen is not that kind of mature lady.

Flanagan stars as Helen Tudor-Fisk, a contract lawyer who is forced to take a job at a shabby suburban law firm specialising in wills and probate. The “fast-paced workplace sitcom” will also star Julia Zemiro, Marty Sheargold, Aaron Chen and Glenn Butcher, diving in to the everyday world of inheritances and squabbling relatives.
One of Porchlight Films’ final productions, the series is produced by Vincent Sheehan and co-directed and written by Flanagan with Penny Flanagan. Tom Peterson also directs. EPs are Greg Sitch, Liz Watts and Anita Sheehan, with ABC head of comedy Todd Abbott and Brett Sleigh.
Flanagan says: “This is the dream. My own show with all my favourite people both in front of the camera and behind it too. I’m thrilled to be making this in Melbourne for the ABC.

Todd Abbott.
Installed as ABC head of comedy in July, Todd Abbott will start evaluating the development materials of the comedy projects that received support under the $5 million Fresh Start Fund this week – and next week he hopes to greenlight development on several projects that he’s already been evaluating.
That’s the good news for Australian producers and creators – tempered by the fact that the broadcaster’s comedy slate for 2021 is fully committed. So the projects that will advance from now on will premiere in 2022.
Given the ABC’s budget constraints, Abbott tells If: “Everyone has had to tighten their belts. My task is to maintain the comedy department’s output and to keep the Wednesday comedy night thriving – and then I’ll try to work out how to do hostile takeovers of the other nights. None of the projects I am looking at now is expected to be...

Q: Last month you commissioned Entitled from Kitty Flanagan and Porclight Films and The Newsreader from Michael Lucas and Werner Film Productions. What grabbed you about both?
