Eileen Daly has launched a fundraising campaign for what will be the fifth film in her I See The Dead horror comedy series; following her fictional ghost-busting team on a variety of adventures, spoofing horror tropes, and bringing the giggles to the gore.
Eileen Daly’s I See the Dead series launched exclusively on RedemptionTV.net in December 2022, and so far three films are available. Eileen’s relationship with the notorious Redemption Films goes back a long way, she is a co-founder and even ‘the face’ of Redemption if you look closely at the logo! First Bite, the fourth installment, is currently in post-production and will be available at the end of 2023.
Each film explores a traditional horror trope or villain, and so far the team have seen off a psycho in Mr. Crispin, ghosts in Hollywood Betrayed, and witches in Witches Brew. Having played more vampires than any other actress,...

She became synonymous with her slinky vamp in Carry on Screaming, but Fenella Fielding was a richly intelligent stage performer who came within a whisker of being Fellini’s muse
Some time in the late 1960s, Federico Fellini is said to have taken the beautiful young Fenella Fielding out to dinner at Claridge’s in London and offered her a movie that he would direct, featuring her in half a dozen roles: a sensational showcase. But Fielding turned him down, on the grounds that she was booked for a theatrical season at Chichester. It may not have happened quite that way – Fielding had a mischievous way of exaggerating anecdotes for the benefit of saucer-eyed interviewers. But however serious or merely seductive Fellini’s movie idea (did he expansively improvise it over brandies?), the great director was undoubtedly impressed with Fielding’s acting talent. She was a brilliant interpreter of Wilde and...

Fenella Fielding with sometime rival Kenneth Williams in Carry On Screaming
Fenella Fielding, the husky-voiced actress once dubbed 'England's first lay of the double entendre', has passed away at the age of 90 due to complications from a stroke. Much loved for her appearances in Carry On Screaming and Carry On Regardless, she also appeared in cult TV series The Avengers and Danger Man and lent her vocal talents to The Prisoner and Magic Roundabout spin-off film Dougal And The Blue Cat.
After surviving a brutal childhood, Fielding won a scholarship to Rada and made a name for herself by appearing in comedy revues. She went on to receive acclaim for her performances in the work of Shakespeare and Euripides. Though she struggled to find good film roles in her later years, she recently found a recurring role in TV hit Skins. Earlier this year she received an OBE. She suffered a stroke in August,...

The London Film Convention, organized by Thomas Bowington was quite literally a Who’s Who of heroes and villains from the small and silver screen. The actual Who came in the shape of a Dr. himself in the guise of Sylvester McCoy, along with Who assistants Katy Manning who played Jo and Bernard Cribbins from both the Amicus film version and the TV version. There was also a rare appearance from Garial Woolf. The other key cult British film genres-the Carry On films, James Bond and Hammer horror- were all represented too, with many of the star guests appearing in all three: from the Carry On Films we had Fenella Fielding, Anita Harris and Amanda Barrie, from Hammer and Bond we had Maddie Smith, Valerie Leon, Martine Beswick, Eunice Gayson, John Wyman,...

Hammer horror fans are in for a treat, as respective collections of five William Castle films and five Hammer horror movies are coming out on Blu-ray in August, and The Incredible Two-Headed Transplant has been set to come out on Blu-ray.
The William Castle and Hammer horror collections will respectively come out on DVD August 18th from Mill Creek. The Incredible Two-Headed Transplant, meanwhile, is slated for release later this year by Kino Lorber. Stay tuned to Daily Dead for further updates.
From Mill Creek: "Iconic horror director William Castle created a simple, but winning formula for his films: a little comedy, a lot of scares, a preposterous gimmick, and a clear sense that fright films should be fun. This even meant Castle would, like Alfred Hitchcock, appear in his trailers and even the movies themselves. Josephine Decker | Close-Up Cinema | An Evening With Fenella Fielding | Film4 Summer Screen
It has been widely agreed that New York film-maker Josephine Decker has “got something”. The New Yorker described her as “the most original independent film-maker to surface in the past few years”, and her first two features, Butter On The Latch and Thou Wast Mild And Lovely are both sensual, impressionistic, elliptical stories, teetering on the edge of strangeness. These films are probably too experimental for mainstream distribution: as an alternative, Decker is touring them as a double bill in seven UK cities this month, and holding Q&As after each event.

Martin Firrell's video artwork, metaFenella, sees the 86-year-old actor imparting her wisdom. Why has it taken so long for the art world to celebrate this subversive Carry On star?
Would you take life advice from a woman who smokes? From her body, I mean. In Martin Firrell's online artwork metaFenella, you can sample the wisdom of actor Fenella Fielding who, in the 1966 film Carry On Screaming!, uttered the immortal line "Do you mind if I smoke?" At which moment a cloud of the stuff wafted from her sultry form.
I'd like to see more art about the Carry On films. Or even a wider acknowledgement of them as art in their own right.
Fenella Fielding, now in her 80s, has of course done things besides Carry On. She pioneered women's standup comedy, was a legendary Hedda Gabler on stage and her unmistakable voice has enriched such classic television programmes as The Prisoner.

Musical theatre star known as 'the champagne soprano'
Lizbeth Webb, one of the great forgotten stars of British musical theatre in the 1940s and 1950s, has died aged 86. Known as "the champagne soprano", she was the first to sing one of the BBC's most requested songs of all time, This Is My Lovely Day, written for her by Vivian Ellis and AP Herbert and included in their musical comedy Bless the Bride (1947).
Starting out during the second world war as a teenage singer with dance bands – she worked later with such conductors as Mantovani, Geraldo, Max Jaffa and Vilém Tauský – Webb was discovered by the bandleader Jack Payne and turned into a West End star by the impresario Charles B Cochran in 1946. Over the next 10 years she made her mark as a soprano of great range (often singing in two different registers), vibrancy and vivacity. She was dark, petite and...

Sony has released the 1963 remake of the 1932 James Whale horror film The Old Dark House as a burn-to-order DVD. The difference between the versions is supposedly night and day (I haven't seen the original). The remake is a broad, comedic take on the horror genre that keeps only the basic premise of the story, which was based on a novel by J.B. Priestly. Tom Poston, in a rare leading role, plays Tom Pendrel, an American living in London where he works as a car dealer. His flatmate Caspar Femm (Peter Bull) is a strange man who he hardly ever sees. Nevertheless, Caspar induces Tom to deliver his new car to the family's estate in the British countryside. When Tom arrives, he finds Caspar dead, supposedly from an accidental fall. He's already laid out in his coffin in a parlor. Tom then finds himself among a strange group of other Femms,...

Cinema Retro is always on the lookout for classic and cult movies being screened in unique ways by film clubs and societies. We seem to have found one that could really top them all- literally at a dead end!
I learned about The Flicker Club via the B-Movie Podcast (www.bmoviecast.com) recently and I was intrigued. This February they ran a short season of Hammer Films. Nothing exceptional about that, you may say, bar the fact that they have screened rarities such as The Reptile, The Witches and the obscure The Lost Continent. If that wasn’t enough, in conjunction with Hammer, they screened the newly restored Dracula from 1958 with found footage that was missing for decades.. However- wonderful though this is - it is the location and the way in which the Flicker Club screened these gems that elevates them beyond the norm.

Hopefully there won't be a chorus of voices proclaiming that I've discovered a new room in the house of 'wrong'. The same personal history that attracts us to certain faces (or quirks - or even defects) applies to how we respond to any particular human voice, so a list of 'best voices' is going to be pretty far from any kind of actuarial table on the matter. That said, there seems to be a pretty broad consensus of 'voice appeal' in a lot of my choices.
I note that I only came up with five female voices out of twenty. I don't know if that's some kind of unconscious sexism, or if it in any way ratifies the (itself probably pretty sexist) opinion I once heard that female voices have less scope than male ones. In any case that bias, if such it is, is in pretty broad opposition to...

Let’s go back to when Britain had its own cinema and see who some of our homegrown stars were then. If we dissolve back to 1960, we find a plethora of movie stars - enough to guarantee full houses in all the West End, and regional theatres, in the country. Here are just some of them: Margaret Rutherford, Joyce Grenfell, John Mills, Leslie Phillips, Joan Sims, Virginia McKenna, Denholm Elliott, Fenella Fielding, Alec Guinness, Leo McKern, Diana Dors, Terry Thomas, Richard Burton, Dirk Bogarde, Peter Sellers, Laurence Olivier, Joan Greenwood, Hermione Baddeley, Moira Lister, Oliver Reed, Dennis Price, Michael Hordern, Robert Shaw, Michael Redgrave, Robert Morley, Laurence Harvey, Paul Scofield, Richard Harris, Tom Courtenay, Leslie-Anne Down, George Formby, Peter Ustinov, Peter Finch, Harry Andrews, Maxine Audley, Nigel Stock, Eric Porter, Noel Coward, Dinsdale Landen, Bernard Cribbins, Patrick Wymark, Shirley-Anne Field, and Moira Redmond…...

In the pantheon of modern monster sci-fi, Predator will always be a poor man's Alien, an inferiority enshrined by its titular ranking in the Alien Vs Predator series, which represented an artistic low point for both franchises. Producer-presenter Robert Rodriguez actively distances his series reboot Predators (2010, Fox, 18) from the Avp knock-offs, citing only the original movie as "inspirational" while smartly inverting the premise of alien hunters on Earth to create his own "humans in an alien game reserve" action adventure.
The attention-grabbing opening shots find our rag-tag antiheroes falling out of the sky, awaking midair with no memory of their capture and no knowledge of their new environment.

Fenella Fielding voiced the Blue Queen in the surreal Magic Roundabout spin-off film Dougal and the Blue Cat, but never got to see the film. Here she recalls the making of a true cult kids' treat
Fenella Fielding is particularly delighted that the funny, creepy Magic Roundabout feature film, Dougal and the Blue Cat, is being released for the first time on DVD – because it will finally give her a chance to watch it. Fielding, who still receives fanmail for her role in Carry on Screaming, put her alluring voice to the character of the Blue Queen in Dougal and the Blue Cat, which was originally released in 1972. Her spooky incantation – "Blue is beautiful. Blue is best. I'm blue, I'm beautiful, I'm best" – interrupts shambling Dougal's idyllic existence and presages the arrival of Buxton, a manipulative blue cat with a strong northern accent, who plots to turn the whole magic kingdom blue.

This Weekend's Spring Memorabilia 2010, at Birmingham's NEC, features several comic book writers and artists among its special guests.
Among those in the convention's Comic City will be Coventry-based Al Davison, whose work includes Idw's Doctor Who comic book (pictured) and DC's House of Mystery.
I carried an interview with Al in November, in which he gave his verdict on comic book movies such as The Dark Knight and Watchmen, and his views on the best and worst of the genre. You can read that article here.
Other comics talent at the event include Mike Collins (Spider-Man, Transformers, 2000Ad, Star Trek), Keith Burns (Devashard, Spy School, Boys), Hunt Emmerson (Beano, Fiesta, Fortean Times), John McCrea (many Marvel and DC titles), Lee Bradley (Transformers, Spider-Man), Lew Stringer (all major publishers), Kat Nicholson (Marvel Heroes, Action Man Atom, Scooby Doo), Jason Cardy (Henry V) and Laura Howell (Beano, Toxic).

Fans will get chance to meet stars of film, TV and sport - and try out the latest video games - at Birmingham's NEC on March 27 to 28 as the venue once more plays host to the Spring Memorabilia Show.
Among those attending are Gunnar Hansen, who plays the unforgettable Leatherface (pictured above) in 1974's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Richard Brooker, who plays killer Jason Vorhees in Friday 13th Part III.
Hollywood actor William Forsythe will be making his first UK appearance. He has appeared in movies such as Rob Zombie's 2005 crime thriller The Devil's Rejects about a sadistic family of serial killers, in which Forsythe played the Sheriff trying to bring them to justice (see picture below).
His other credits include the movies Once Upon A Time In America; Dick Tracy; and Steven Seagal's Out For Justice, as well as hit TV shows such as Hill Street Blues and The Untouchables.
