After being blown away by the Prime Video adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s novel Daisy Jones & The Six, I decided to circle back and read the author’s debut novel, the “tragic love story” drama Forever, Interrupted… and as the story went on, I became more and more surprised that it hadn’t yet received an adaptation of some sort. It seemed ready to be brought to the screen as a heartbreaking and heartwarming movie or TV show, with solid roles for two lead actresses. Well, now it’s getting its adaptation. Glamour reports (via Deadline) that Margaret Qualley (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) and Laura Dern (Jurassic Park) are set to star in a limited series adaptation of Forever, Interrupted that’s coming our way from A24 and the Netflix streaming service.

Updated with latest: Selena Gomez revealed the Wizards of Waverly Place sequel title at Disney’s upfront Tuesday. The spinoff will be called Wizards Beyond Waverly Place. She also shared two first-look images which can be found below.
Deadline broke the news of the sequel series in January. Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas serve as writers and executive producers. Andy Fickman directed and executive-produced the pilot and will direct multiple episodes.
The original show ran four seasons, winning Emmys and doing well in the ratings until star Selena Gomez decided it was time to graduate to more adult roles. The show ran from 2007-2012, with Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie also airing on the Disney Channel in 2009. The cast returned for a stand-alone television special, The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex, in 2013.
There have been rumors of another reunion ever since and now, after a decade, Disney is making them a reality.

No man is an island. As much as we hate to admit it, sometimes, no one gets anywhere in life without someone believing in them. The same is true for Hollywood. It takes the stars aligning (pun intended) for any success story for anyone to really make it, and especially to escape the shadow of how they may be initially perceived.
There may be no better example of that than Mr. Channing Tatum. He told GQ in 2009, “I got crazy lucky. Like, sometimes I think I won the lottery or something. I don’t really know how I got here. But I just keep moving forward, and it just keeps getting better and better.” Had the stars aligned differently, he could have been just an exotic dancer and never entered the public consciousness. Or just a model. Or just played a jock. Or just played generic romantic leads. Or just played generic action roles.

In the early 2000s, Amanda Bynes was the darling of teen comedies, starring alongside heartthrob Channing Tatum in the 2006 romantic comedy, She’s the Man. But in recent years, Bynes, 37, has been in the news more for her erratic behavior than her acting chops. Recently, fans have begun to express concern about her mental health after she announced a major career change.

Andy Fickman‘s sports family comedy The Game Plan (2007) was his third movie as a director and his all-time highest-grossing feature film. Fickman, who’s no stranger to comedy, chose to work with one of Hollywood’s fast-rising actors of the 2000s, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. It proved to be a good choice as most of his movies have mostly been successful. The Game Plan follows its main protagonist, Joseph “Joe” Kingman, a selfish, arrogant, professional quarterback. After scoring one of the biggest wins of his career, his world is turned upside down when he discovers he has an eight-year-old daughter, Peyton...

Mercilessly photogenic melodrama saddled with faintly patronising shtick as Phillipa Soo has to choose between new fiance and returning husband thought to be dead
Adapted from the eponymous novel by BookTok favourite Taylor Jenkins Reid, this sanitised melodrama is so algorithm-baked and slathered in life lessons it makes butane-sniffing seem like the preferable option. Phillipa Soo plays Emma, a Massachusetts bookseller caught in the living hell of a Shang-Chi/Point Break sandwich: about to marry her childhood best friend Sam (Simu Liu), she is bowled over when previous hunk of a husband Jesse (Luke Bracey) – who went missing in a helicopter crash on their first wedding anniversary – suddenly turns up with full Robinson Crusoe beard.
Jesse actually has been trapped on a desert island for four years. But that’s the level of subtlety Andy Fickman’s mercilessly photogenic love triangle operates on, initially hyping up Emma and Jesse’s...

It was recently announced that ever-prolific online content factory Buzzfeed would begin using artificial intelligence technology to generate articles — so can A.I. screenwriting be far behind? Amid a surfeit of production company idents at the outset of “One True Loves,” the presence of Buzzfeed Studios’ logo brings that question to mind; the rigidly generic love story that ensues keeps it there. In fact, this adaptation of a 2016 bestseller by Taylor Jenkins Reid (“Daisy Jones & The Six”) was scripted by the author herself, in collaboration with her husband Alex. There’s scant evidence of personal investment, however, in this clean, anodyne drama of messy romantic conflicts, in which everyone from director Andy Fickman to stars Simu Liu, Phillipa Soo and Luke Bracey is working in strict get-the-job-done mode.
The bland proficiency on display throughout “One True Loves” is galling in a story that calls for ripe emotional excess, conceived...

Simu Liu may be starring in one of the biggest movies of 2023, but no one will mistake “One True Loves” for that honorific. But, somehow, this rom-com adaptation is more plastic than “Barbie.”
Liu leads “One True Loves,” the big screen adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s 2016 novel of the same name. Liu is Sam, a high school music teacher who finally lands the woman of his dreams, childhood crush Emma (Phillipa Soo). The only issue? Emma’s first husband Jesse (Luke Bracey) was presumed dead after a fatal helicopter crash, and miraculously is rescued four years later, proving to be alive and very ready to rekindle his relationship with Emma right before her wedding to Sam.
If the premise sounds like the stuff of beach reads, it is. The Reid cinematic universe is rapidly expanding, with Prime Video series “Daisy Jones & the Six” having gone viral and fans...

Director Andy Fickman, along with Todd Slater, have shared with Bloody Disgusting this week the exclusive first look at Fickman’s new horror franchise, Blue Light.
In an exclusive statement provided to Bloody Disgusting, Andy Fickman touches on why this ambitious new project is so important to him, and the inspiration behind the film.
“My whole life I have been fascinated by horror and sci-fi films,” Fickman tells us. “When I was growing up in Texas, my buddies and I went opening night for every horror film and would return multiple times over the weekend. My senior year in high school, I went with some friends to a reportedly haunted cemetery. We snuck in – late at night – to tell ghost stories and drink cheap champagne. "No matter what you do, you're going to break somebody's heart." The Avenue has revealed the trailer for the film One True Loves, a new romantic dramedy from filmmaker Andy Fickman. Based on the book of the same name, the film is one of these cliche, cheesy stories about a woman forced to decide between two men she loves deeply. Is there such a thing as more than one true love? Yet another modern movie trying to grapple with the question of monogamy and whether it's still relevant anymore. A woman is unexpectedly forced to choose between the husband she has long thought dead and the fiance who has finally brought her back to life. The three people at the center are played by Phillipa Soo as Emma, Simu Liu as Sam, Luke Bracey as Jesse, with a supporting cast including Michaela Conlin, Tom Everett Scott, Gary Hudson, Oceana Matsumoto,...

To begin with a fun, personal anecdote:
This author was exiting a screening in Hollywood, California when he spotted the preeminent film critic Leonard Maltin in the halls of the theater. He was idly looking at a pair of posters for upcoming film releases. The poster for Fede Álvarez's them-upcoming 2013 film "Evil Dead" was displayed on the wall next to Andy Fickman's upcoming 2012 family comedy "Parental Guidance," starring Billy Crystal and Bette Midler. The tagline for "Parental Guidance" was a whimsical "Here come the grandparents, there go the rules." Meanwhile, "Evil Dead" sported the bold assertion "The Most Terrifying Film You Will Ever Experience." Maltin, tapping into his inner bon vivant, proposed that the two films ought to swap taglines. It would certainly apply, he felt, to "Parental Guidance."
The 2013 version of "Evil Dead" was a remake of Sam Raimi's 1981 low-low-budget cult classic "The Evil Dead" about...
