On Feb. 7, 2013, after delays and significant drama behind the scenes, Community debuted “History 101,” the first episode of the long-awaited fourth season, and the first under new showrunners David Guarascio and Moses Port. Fan reaction to the outing was mixed, to put it mildly, while critics were downright savage. Soon enough, cast and crew began to express their misgivings, too. The entire season was later written off in-universe as the result of a gas leak, never to be spoken of again.
Was that a fair assessment, though? Countless other “bad” installments of pop culture have been revisited over the years, only for perceived faults to be found not quite so damning as audiences initially thought. With an entire decade of hindsight and objectivity to reflect upon, was the fourth season of Community really that bad?
Kind of, yeah!

Exclusive: Seventeen years after Jerry Bruckheimer Television took its first major stab at multi-camera comedy series with a sale at CBS, the company is back on the multi-camera sitcom beat with another project in development at the network.
Titled Cdc, the multi-camera workplace comedy hails from Superior Donuts co-developers/executive producers Neil Goldman and Garrett Donovan; Jbtv; Picture It Productions; and CBS Television Studios, where Jbtv and Picture It are under deals.
Written by Goldman and Donovan, Cdc sounds like a spiritual successor to CBS’ mega-hit The Big Bang Theory. It is about a group of socially awkward scientists and their ambitious new co-worker who struggles to find a balance between her career aspirations and loyalty to her unlikely new friends.

CBS has canceled comedy “Superior Donuts” after two seasons.
“Superior Donuts” takes place in a small Chicago donut shop, where curmudgeonly owner Arthur (Judd Hirsch) finds his 40-year routine changing when enterprising go-getter Franco (Jermaine Fowler) fast-talks his way into Arthur’s life, becoming his only employee.
The show also stars Katey Sagal, David Koechner, Maz Jobrani, and Rell Battle. Diane Guerrero joined the show in its second season. Bob Daily, Neil Goldman, Garrett Donovan, Mark Teitelbaum, John R. Montgomery, Michael Rotenberg, Josh Lieberman, and Fowler executive produce.
CBS previously renewed fellow Monday comedy “Man With a Plan.” “Kevin Can Wait” is still awaiting word on a third season. Freshman Monday comedies “Me, Myself, and I,” “Living Biblically,” and “9Jkl” are not expected back.
The broadcaster will be looking to build a new Monday comedy block next season. “The Big Bang Theory” typically starts off the season on Monday nights...

It’s official — CBS is not picking up a third season of Superior Donuts, its multi-camera workplace comedy starring Jermaine Fowler and Judd Hirsch.
After a decent ratings start last spring, goosed by a plum lead-in from The Big Bang Theory, Superior Donuts was renewed for a second season with some casting changes, including the addition of Diane Guerrero, and got a full-season Season 2 pickup last fall.
CBS had been looking to make changes on Monday where the network was once the dominant force with hit comedies and CSI: Miami at 10 Pm. CBS’ fortunes on the night have declined over the past couple of years, hitting a low point this season. Superior Donuts was the lowest rated of the three returning CBS series on Monday which were in a renewal contention, averaging a 1.1 adults 18-49 rating (most recent)
While the cast of the sitcom has been well received, the show didn’t quite gel together.

CBS has given a series order to “Superior Donuts,” a new half-hour sitcom headlined by rising stand-up comedian Jermaine Fowler.

David Koechner, Maz Jobrani, Anna Baryshnikov, Darien Sills-Evans, Rell Battle and Katey Sagal also star in the show, which is based on the play by Tracy Letts. “Superior Donuts” originally premiered in Chicago in 2008, and moved to Broadway for a brief run in fall 2009.

I generally pay as much attention to the broadcast network development season as I do to the baseball draft. Though the shows that actually survive development are much closer to airing chronologically than most baseball draftees are to the majors, the winnowing process is just as brutal in both cases. On average, a given network will hear 3-400 pitches a year, order scripts for 60-70 of them, make 8-12 pilots and put roughly between a half dozen and a dozen of them on the air. So I’ve usually found development not worth worrying about until shows are actually ordered to series and scheduled. That said, it’s been tough to ignore this fall’s development season, where it seems like every day for the past few weeks, my Twitter feed has blown up a few times an afternoon with news of a familiar movie or TV property being adapted...

The I.T Crowd is something of a British institution. It is a beloved TV comedy from the pen of the incredibly talented Graham Linehan (Father Ted), which follows the slightly surreal, completely hilarious escapades of some technical support workers at a large corporation. Ultimately comprising four 6 episode seasons and a one-off ‘special’, the show aired in the UK from 2006 to 2010, with its single, triumphant return hitting screens to great acclaim in 2013. It helped launch the careers of its three main cast members – Chris O’Dowd (Dinner For Schmucks, Bridesmaids, This Is 40), Richard Ayoade (Submarine, The Watch, The Double) and Katherine Parkinson (Sherlock, The Honourable Woman), and also its main supporting player, Matt Berry (Moon, Snow White And The Huntsman). In the UK, it is widely held as the gold standard for TV comedy, and now, NBC have committed themselves to a Us pilot of the show, from Scrubs creator,...

Community alumni Neil Goldman and Garrett Donovan are having another stab at remaking The It Crowd for Us audiences…
You might remember that NBC was working on an adaptation of Channel 4’s The It Crowd back in 2007.
It had Community’s Joe McHale in the Chris O’Dowd role and even had Richard Ayoade returning as Moss. It’s believed half a series was even filmed before NBC went cold on the idea.
Now, the show is in development again. Community alumni Neil Goldman and Garrett Donovan are working on the project with Warner Bros., and NBC are already keen on a pilot, we're told. Creator of the original Graham Linehan is said to be on executive producer duties alongside Donovan and Goldman.
It’s unclear whether Ayoade would still be up for reprising his role, but some links to the original would certainly give the remake some credibility.

Exclusive: ABC‘s multi-camera comedy pilot from actor-comedian Kevin Hart is undergoing a change following the table read. The character of Mircea, Derek’s (Romany Malco) post-divorce girlfriend, has been reconceived and will now be called Mandy. As a result, Amber Stevens, who had been cast as Mircea, is exiting, and Army Wives alumna Ryan Michelle Bathe has been tapped to play Mandy. Mircea was originally written as Derek’s new live-in girlfriend, a former super-model who once jet-setted around the world, who is now a hostess at a local restaurant and very much in love with the newly divorced Derek. The character of Mandy is still being fine tuned but, in broad strokes, she is Derek’s optimistic girlfriend who fears she may have gotten in over her head when she encourages Derek to make peace with his over-dramatic, overbearing, ex-wife. Written by Neil Goldman and Garrett Donovan based...

Amber Stevens is set to co-star opposite Romany Malco in ABC‘s multi-camera comedy pilot Keep It Together, from hot actor-comedian Kevin Hart and former Community executive producers Neil Goldman and Garrett Donovan. Hart, on whose life and stand-up the project is based, had been eying a potential recurring role but that was subject to availability with his feature career taking off in a big way. I’m happy to report that Hart is now set to appear in the pilot and in multiple episodes after that, playing a trouble-making character created for him. The good news just keeps on coming for Mr. Kevin Hart. ABC announced last night that it will be moving forward with his pilot. Executive produced and written by Community's Neil Goldman and Garrett Donovan, the semiautobiographical multi-camera sitcom focuses on the post-divorce relationship of a couple trying to become friends for their kids' sake. Hart doesn't plan on starring in the show, but will have a recurring role. The pickup is contingent on cast approval, which kind of feels like ABC is passive-aggressively trying to trick Hart into signing on to star. "Sorry, Kev, no one can play you like you can. I guess you'll have to star in it. Darn."...

ABC is adding a comedy to the three drama pickups tonight. The network has given a cast-contingent pilot order to a multicamera comedy from hot actor-comedian Kevin Hart and former Community executive producers Neil Goldman and Garrett Donovan. This marks the first multi-camera pilot this year at ABC, which has only one multi-camera series on the air, Last Man Standing, and didn’t pick up any multicam pilots to series last season. The untitled Kevin Hart project, which had a put pilot commitment, is based on Hart’s life and stand-up. Written by Goldman and Donovan, it takes a candid look at the post-divorce life of a couple trying to forge a friendship for the sake of their kids, despite differences. 20th Century Fox TV is producing, with Hart, his manager Dave Becky, Goldman and Donovan executive producing. If the project goes forward, Hart likely will play a recurring role.

The push to make Kevin Hart a mainstream star and the renewed network interest in shows about kids and the comical difficulties of raising those kids will dovetail in a new series for ABC, Deadline reports. Hart—who has appeared on the network’s Modern Family, as a guy just sort of standing around waiting for a TV show—will partner with Community writer-producers Neil Goldman and Garrett Donovan to executive produce a multi-camera sitcom based on his standup, just as sitcoms were in days of old. While many of Hart’s jokes are about being short—and thus a ...

Kevin Hart has sold a multi-camera comedy based on his stand-up to ABC, however there's one bummer: He doesn't plan on starring in it.
Deadline reports that the project, written by former "Community" executive producers Neil Goldman and Garrett Donovan, will take a candid look at the post-divorce life of a couple trying to forge a friendship for the sake of their children, despite their differences.
While Hart won't star, he will likely play a recurring role should the series move forward. He'll be on hand as executive producer, alongside Goldman, Donovan and his manager Dave Becky. 20th Century Fox TV is producing.
Before "Community," Goldman and Donovan spent eight season on "Scrubs," earning a writing Emmy nomination in 2004 for the episode "My Screwup."
Do you think Hart's stand-up will make a good sitcom?...

Kevin Hart's next stop in his domination of the American comedic landscape is network television. ABC has given Hart a put-pilot commitment for a multi-camera sitcom based on his stand-up. The show will focus on a couple who, after their divorce, tries to become friends for the sake of their kids. Neil Goldman and Garrett Donovan, writers best known for their work on Community, have signed on to write the pilot and executive produce the series. Though Hart will not star in the series, he would have a reoccurring role if it were to be picked up. "Why is Uncle Kevin taking up so much screen time?" the show's most meta kid will ask.
