“No one, as far as we know, from the Clinton camp has seen this series,” Impeachment: American Crime Story executive producer Brad Simpson said today of the former First Couple who loom large in the FX limited series.
“Of course, I’m curious what they would think,” Simpson added at Friday’s virtual TCA panel of media savvy and sensitive ex-President Bill Clinton and almost Potus Hillary Clinton. “I don’t imagine she will watch, no matter how emphatic we are to her,” the EP noted of the role played by Sopranos vet Eddie Falco to Clive Owen’s 42nd Commander-in-Chief in the show debuting on September 7.
Neither of the Clintons, nor the likes of Matt Drudge and Anne Coulter, were consulted on the Simpson, Ryan Murphy, Nina Jacobson and Brad Falchuk EP’d 10-parter, like Monica Lewinsky was, as a producer herself. However, for Simpson on Friday, the legacy...

Michael Uppendahl has stepped in as director and executive producer on American Crime Story: Impeachment, Ryan Murphy’s upcoming FX limited series about the Bill Clinton-Monica Lewinsky sex scandal. He replaces Richard Shepard, who recently exited the project.
Shepard signed on for the project in January, ahead of the coronavirus pandemic, which shut down all production and shifted all filming schedules, including Impeachment‘s. The show, a co-production of Touchstone Television, FX and Ryan Murphy Productions, was originally set to shoot in early spring. Delayed by the industry-wide shutdown, it is now slated to begin filming in early fall.
The pandemic and the scheduling bottleneck it has created, with shows slowly easing back into production with Covid safety protocols, has led to behind and in front of the camera changes on a number of projects. Another director previously booked for Impeachment also recently pulled out.

FX’s release of “Impeachment: American Crime Story” will no longer coincide with the 2020 election. Citing executive producer Ryan Murphy’s busy schedule, FX Networks and FX Productions Chairman John Landgraf said the original release date of September 27, 2020 is no longer “reasonable.” He also unveiled his annual tally of the total number of original scripted shows, with 2019 ending up as the highest volume of scripted programming ever.
“We’re making 10 episodes. Ryan, who is objectively the busiest man in show business, is not available to start production until March 21,” Landgraf said during his executive session at FX’s TCA presentation. “I don’t think [a September release date is] reasonable, given that we don’t plan to wrap until October.”

The third season of FX’s “American Crime Story” on the impeachment of Bill Clinton will not air in September as it was originally scheduled to do, FX chief John Landgraf said Thursday.
The reason for the delay is due to Murphy’s busy schedule (FX renewed his other anthology “American Horror Story” for three more seasons on Thursday). “I don’t think that’s reasonable, frankly given that it wont finish production until October,” Landgraf said during the Television Critics Association press tour. He was unsure about when it would premiere. “I don’t think we’ll make it by September.”
That means that, with the 2020 Presidential Election set for Nov. 3, “Impeachment” likely won’t air until after that. Last summer, Landgraf defended the decision to air “Impeachment,” which centers on the Bill Clinton-Monica Lewinsky impeachment drama, just months ahead of the 2020 election, In addition, he called the current media environment “toxic.

Today, FX Networks chairman John Landgraf said at the TCA winter press tour that “we won’t make it by September. We can’t start (production) until March 21 of this year and we won’t physically be done until October. So it’s a long production.” In total, it’s Tbd as of right now.
Landgraf didn’t specifically say that FX would miss an airdate prior to Election Day.
Landgraf said Impeachment missing an airdate prior to Election Day doesn’t stem from the backlash following the announcement, “but Ryan (Murphy’s) scheduling. It’s really his availability and the timing of the production.”
Ryan Murphy told us back in the fall that Impeachment would have a spring start due to his work on the Netflix musical Prom with Meryl Streep.

“Impeachment: American Crime Story” is not going to start airing on FX ahead of the 2020 Presidential election as originally planned.
FX chairman John Landgraf made the announcement Thursday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. Landgraf said that Ryan Murphy is currently directing a feature film and will be unavailable to begin production until late March. Production on the 10-episode season is not slated to end until October. Given the usual length of the post-production process, the show will likely not air its first episode before the election on Nov. 3. When it was first announced back in August, FX had originally planned to air the show beginning in September.

Exclusive: Emmy winner Margo Martindale is set to star as Lucianne Steinberger Goldberg in Impeachment: American Crime Story, the third season of FX’s award-winning limited series franchise, which centers on the sex scandal that rocked the Clinton presidency.
Martindale joins Clive Owen as Bill Clinton, Sarah Paulson as Linda Tripp, Beanie Feldstein as Monica Lewinsky and Annaleigh Ashford as Paula Jones in the limited series, on which Lewinsky serves as a producer. The role of Hillary Clinton is being cast.
Martindale’s Goldberg, a literary agent and author, met Linda Tripp while working on the proposal for the book on the death of Clinton aide Vince Foster. The two women became friends, and in 1997 Goldberg advised Tripp to secretly record former White House intern Lewinsky talking about her sexual relationship with President Clinton. Goldberg mistakenly advised Tripp that it was legal to record phone conversations in Maryland without the consent of the other party.

American Crime Story Season 3 will focus on the sex-strewn scandal that led to President Bill Clinton’s impeachment.
American Crime Story's third FX anthology iteration will focus on the events pertaining to the U.S. House of Representatives’ October 1998 impeachment of President Bill Clinton for “high crimes and misdemeanors”; a bellwether media moment in which the serious news cycle merged with pop-culture-proliferated tabloid stories.
Titled Impeachment: American Crime Story, the season – initially planned back in 2017, but temporarily shelved – is now set to arrive in September 2020, showcasing the sordid affair through the eyes of Monica Lewinsky, the young former White House intern who bore the brunt of the media’s scorn as one-half of President Clinton’s Oval Office infidelity. Indeed, now over 20 years removed from the news cycle heyday of the scandal, Impeachment will see Lewinsky involved as a producer, telling her tale in a (post-#MeToo...

FX has announced the next season of “American Crime Story,” and they’d be hard-pressed to find a more relevant title, let alone subject, for today’s turbulent political moment. “Impeachment: American Crime Story” will focus on the women swept up in President Bill Clinton’s 1998 impeachment proceedings, specifically Paula Jones, Monica Lewinsky (who will serve as a producer), and Linda Tripp.
Production is slated to begin in February 2020, and FX has already set a Sunday, September 27, 2020 release date for the new season.
“FX’s ‘American Crime Story’ franchise has become a cultural touchstone, providing greater context for stories that deserve greater understanding like the O.J. Simpson trial and saga, and Andrew Cunanan’s tragic crime spree which concluded with the assassination of Gianni Versace,” FX Networks and Productions Chairman John Landgraf said in a statement. “This franchise re-examines some of the most complicated, polarizing stories in recent history in a way that is relevant,...

In Adnan Syed’s ongoing legal struggle, our culture seems to have stumbled on a successor to the O.J. Simpson saga — a “trial of the century” for the age of micro-fame. Born and raised in Baltimore, Syed was a teenager when he was convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend, Hae Min Lee; his story provided grist for Sarah Koenig’s investigative podcast “Serial” and now for an HBO documentary series, “The Case Against Adnan Syed.” Contrary to what the volume of coverage might suggest, the case is most interesting as a narrative about the media. Syed’s incarceration is a Möbius strip for the attention economy: It continues to be covered because it has been covered in the past.
This leads to a broadcast that breaks no ground, that succeeds in re-airing exculpatory information about Syed but falls short as a documentary and as television. “The Case Against Adnan Syed” is...

Earlier this year, Bill Clinton undertook a publicity tour — his first in some time disconnected from his wife’s political career, and one designed to promote a thriller novel he’d co-written with James Patterson. But what perhaps was meant as the 42nd president’s sprightly display of charisma and distraction from the news generated by the 45th quickly became something for which he was, strangely, hardly prepared. Faced with questions about his treatment of White House intern Monica Lewinsky, he bobbled them badly, seeming defensive and aggressive, unwilling to let in any point-of-view other than his own narrative in which he’d long since been forgiven.
It was the sort of reckoning that has been a long time coming, first because of an ongoing revolution spurred on by movements like #MeToo and Time’s Up, and second because of our culture’s sudden interest in relitigating events of the 1990s.

A&E has pulled off a coup by securing Monica Lewinsky to feature in six-part documentary The Impeachment of Bill Clinton (w/t).
The cable network has ordered the series from Alex Gibney’s Jigsaw Productions, Jemina Khan’s Instinct Productions and Emmy-winning director Blair Foster (Rolling Stone: Stories From The Edge). It will weave together never-seen-before archival footage with exclusive new interviews, of which Lewinsky’s appearance is the most high-profile.
Beginning November 18, the limited doc series will explore the biggest political scandal of its generation and look at broader topics including media, feminism, politics and power. It will investigate the history leading up to the impeachment trial and chronicles the role each of these forces played in this story of sex, power, money, lies and ideological warfare.
The doc series comes a few months after A&E sister network History scrapped its planned drama series, The Breach, about the same subject.

Chief executive Murdoch owns 60% of the company, Sony Pictures Television International has 14%, venture capital group 3i has 10%, and BSkyB holds 3%.
All three deals lock in executive talent from the companies concerned: Kudos joint managing directors Stephen Garrett and Jane Featherstone, Princess co-founders Sebastian Scott and Henrietta Conrad and Firefly managing directors Nick Curwin and Magnus Temple will join the Shine board.
The deals will grow Shine's annual revenue from £25 million ($40 million) a year to about £95 million ($186.6 million) a year on a pro forma basis.
