Former President Bill Clinton allegedly warned Vanity Fair not to publish articles regarding the sex-trafficking allegations against “his good friend” Jeffrey Epstein. Clinton reportedly stormed into their newsroom and began to “threaten” them.
According to the newly unsealed court documents, Virginia Giuffre, an Epstein accuser, mentioned Clinton in a 2011 email exchange with Sharon Churcher, a journalist in the Daily Mail.
The emails exchanged were advice given to Giuffre on whether she should do an interview and sell a photo to the publication. Churcher even offered to help her get a book deal back then.
“When I was doing some research into [Vanity Fair] yesterday, it does concern me what they could want to write about me considering that B. Clinton walked into Vf and threatened them not to write sex-trafficking articles about his good friend J.E.,” Giuffre wrote in an email.
How Giuffre learned of the alleged threats is unknown, but...

Hundreds of pages of sealed records related to Jeffrey Epstein have been made public over the past week, revealing previously unknown details about the late accused sex trafficker who called some of the world’s most wealthy and influential people his friends, from Bill Clinton to Prince Andrew.
The release comes after a judge’s December ruling that the documents, which until Wednesday had been redacted, should no longer be concealed from the public. Previously, the documents had been part of Epstein accuser Virginia Giuffre’s 2015 civil case against Ghislaine Maxwell.

But with each appearance comes chatter about the couple’s financial state and rumors of marital troubles. Now one commentator is giving a brutal assessment of the prince and former Suits star‘s relationship.

Michael Chow is meant to be in Riyadh. But as drones spell out his name in the sky above Saudi Arabia’s capital, heralding the Oct. 5 opening of the latest outpost of his eponymous restaurant, the charismatic restaurateur, artist and bon vivant is in his Los Angeles home, grounded with a positive Covid-19 test. He is in good spirits nonetheless. “My name is Gatsby,” Chow says with a laugh, invoking the name of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s tragic hero, known for hosting extravagant parties but not necessarily attending them. “When he gives a party, they always turn up.”
Of course, Chow, 84, has long been known for his hosting prowess, with more than five decades of feeding the A-list legions of Hollywood, fashion, art, politics and beyond at his Mr. Chow restaurants. Now numbering seven locations, his empire launched with a London spot that opened in 1968, followed by Beverly Hills in...

Anna Wintour was running over an hour late. It was an anomaly for the regimented and exalted editor of Vogue, who typically works through lunch but dined that day with her old friend Bruce Bozzi. Tucked away at the Italian spot Via Carota in New York’s West Village, she was unusually candid about showing up for personal relationships while creatively navigating Condé Nast.
They weren’t alone. Beside them was Bozzi’s recorder, which captures his podcast “Table for Two.” In the series, Bozzi, a 32-year veteran of the hospitality industry and spouse of CAA super-agent Bryan Lourd, sits for languorous meals and expansive conversations with some of the boldest names in media. George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Sharon Stone and Scarlett Johansson have all been guests. Rosé is served, and so is the kind of candor displayed by Wintour. Republic Pictures President Dan Cohen and producer Annabelle Dunne were among the main representatives of William Friedkin’s last film The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial at its posthumous world premiere at the Venice Film Festival over the weekend.
Taking place less than a month after Friedkin died at the age of 87 on August 7, it was an emotional night for both.
Alongside tributes from this year’s jury president Damien Chazelle and Venice director Alberto Barbera, Dunne took to the stage to share anecdotes, including how Guillermo del Toro and J.J. Abrams became involved as back-up directors after Friedkin’s age made it impossible to secure a completion bond.
Deadline caught up with the pair on the terrace of the Venice Lido’s Excelsior Hotel the next day, ahead of a screening of Friedkin’s The Exorcist in Venice Classics.

On July 3, GQ.com rolled out a hot-take story titled “How Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav Became Public Enemy Number One in Hollywood.” The piece, which was written by freelance film critic Jason Bailey and slammed Zaslav as a Logan Roy-esque mogul, quickly disappeared from GQ’s website, while a new, more friendly version popped up with a separate URL. That version, too, vanished not long after, leaving readers puzzled.
But did a GQ editor’s relationship with Warner Bros. play a role in the softening and ultimate removal of the story?
GQ editor-in-chief Will Welch is producing a movie at Warner Bros. titled “The Great Chinese Art Heist,” which is based on a 2018 GQ article by Alex W. Palmer. Jon M. It’s been a rough month for Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav.
Getting booed at a university commencement was one thing, but having to fire a news network chief, seeing a major superhero film tank and getting skewered for everything from throwing a party in Cannes during a labor stoppage to slashing costs at the beloved TCM classic movie channel has been nothing short of brutal.
Zaslav has made misstep after misstep, said one veteran Hollywood executive, pointing especially to that celebration of Warner’s 100 year anniversary party at the Hotel Du Cap in Cannes with Air Mail’s Graydon Carter as a tone-deaf move during a strike. “It’s the most transparent drug-like addiction [to celebrity] that I’ve even seen,” the executive said.
Added the executive: “All the guys were rooting for him.

Inside Another Fabulous Cannes Party: Dancing David Zaslav, Leonardo DiCaprio and Scarlett Johansson
The upper deck at France’s Hotel Du-Cap-Eden-Roc offers a stunning coastal view of nearby city Cannes, the kind that Jay Gatsby would covet to peep Daisy Buchanan.
On Tuesday, at one of the hottest parties at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, that view belonged to Graydon Carter. Standing alone with his wife Anna Carter, the creator of the digital publication Air Mail and former editor of Vanity Fair observed not a long-lost love but a cliffside full of movie stars, auteur directors and Hollywood power players.
Carter’s Air Mail co-hosted an evening celebrating the 100-year anniversary of Warner Bros. Pictures, the latter represented by Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav and his top content lieutenants. Leonardo DiCaprio, Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost, Robert De Niro, Martin Scorsese, Lily-Rose Depp, Sam Levinson, Jason Statham and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Rebel Wilson and more turned up to toast cinema and each other.

John le Carre’s George Smiley would have spotted the tail immediately. He would have noticed the man with an earpiece far to his left move in lockstep with the chap to his right.
The early rather odd conversation with the bloke in the white shirt, exposing chest hair, who identified himself as “head of security” would have put him on his guard and seen it for what it was: a warning.
Let me back up a bit.
Snowy-haired Michel, the head doorman at Eden-Roc, greeted me when I arrived for the Air Mail-Warner Bros. Party hosted by Graydon Carter, founder and co-editor of newsletter Air Mail, and David Zaslav, the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery.

Graydon Carter, the publishing icon who steered Vanity Fair for 25 years and hosted many a Mediterranean téte-á-téte, is returning to Antibes and the legendary Hotel du Cap this year for a party partnership between his digital dispatch Air Mail and Zaslav’s Warner Bros. Discovery.
Ahead of the May 23 event, Carter talked to The Hollywood Reporter about curating the perfect Cannes event, the shortlist of people who have his cell phone number, and why anything longer than a 15-second toast is too long.
How are you feeling about returning to Cannes?
It’s funny because the dinners we used to do during the Cannes Film Festival were the most enjoyable nights of the job [at Vanity Fair]. In my 25 years there, the Oscar party became so enormous that it was stressful and big business, in a way. Cannes was about movies and enjoyment and just having a great time.

Cannes is ready to party again with the likes of Johnny Depp, Harrison Ford, Alicia Vikander, Jude Law and Cate Blanchett all set for a Côte d’Azur hoedown. Here’s a (non-exhaustive) look at some of festival festivities on deck at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, which kicks off Tuesday and runs through May 27.
The return of the Carlton Hotel following a whopping $380 million renovation is perhaps symbolic of the reemergence of shindigs at the festival following the pandemic. ”We were closed for 26 months,” sighed the Carlton’s general manager Carlo Stragiotto as he welcomed us in the opulent lobby.
“We have created new spaces and renovated old ones,” Stragiotto proclaimed, then boasted that the hotel has space enough “to host four or five parties at the same time each night, if needed.”

Graydon Carter is heading back to the South of France.
The iconic editor in chief is teaming with Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav to host a dinner and party during the upcoming Cannes Film Festival. On May 23, the pair will post up at the exclusive Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in nearby Antibes, France, for a private, invite-only fete that is expected to be starry considering the names on the invite.
Carter, the editor of digital weekly Air Mail, hosted many a Cannes to-do during his days running Vanity Fair. His return in 2023 opposite Zaslav, one of Hollywood’s most buzzed-about power players, marks their first party partnership and the first time Carter has hosted a dinner there since he left Vanity Fair. As such, it is Air Mail’s first Cannes showing since its 2019 launch. Carter began hosting his Vanity Fair party there in the mid-1990s.

Will Hollywood decamp for Cannes this year?
Organizers for the annual celebration of all things cinema certainly hope so, though their ambitions could collide with a new spirit of economizing that’s making studios hesitant about shelling out the hundreds of thousands of dollars it takes to pull off a Riviera bow. Cannes Film Festival chief Thierry Frémaux has barely gotten over his jet lag after a whirlwind trip to Los Angeles this month, but he’s already planning a return visit as he attempts to pull together one of the most formidable lineups in the 76-year history of the event. He’s made it clear to studio executives that he would love to highlight both their blockbusters and their awards contenders, and though formal offers have not been made or accepted, this year’s Cannes has the potential to match or even surpass the 2022 edition — which played host to...

Andy Cohen is calling out The Late Late Show with James Corden for ripping off his Watch What Happens Live set. The Bravo star went on the Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi podcast where he said his late-night show set a new standard.
“I’m not a comedian [and] I think [Wwhl is] a different type of talk show. I think there has been a traditional idea of what a late-night talk show is, and I would argue that Watch What Happens Live redefined what the late-night talk show is,” Cohen said on the iHeartMedia podcast that dropped on December 27.
Cohen continued, “[Wwhl] was the first bar on late-night [then] James Corden got a bar. James Corden kind of wound up [copying our set]. It is what it is.”
The podcast host added, “Ripping off your set,” to which Cohen said, “There you go. I am so glad we’re still going. That [the show] is, like, great, copy my set … go with God.

George Lois, the hard-selling, charismatic advertising man and designer who fashioned some of the most daring magazine images of the 1960s and popularized such catchphrases and brand names as “I Want My MTV” and “Lean Cuisine,” has died. He was 91.
Lois’ son, the photographer Luke Lois, said he died “peacefully” Friday at his home in Manhattan.
Nicknamed the “Golden Greek” and later (to his displeasure) an “Original Mad Man,” George Lois was among a wave of advertisers who launched the “Creative Revolution” that jolted Madison Avenue and the world beyond in the late 1950s and ’60s. He was boastful and provocative, willing and able to offend, and was a master of finding just the right image or words to capture a moment or create a demand.

It’s a chronicle of Princess Diana culled entirely from television news footage and other public records. In other words, this isn’t an intimate portrait of the Princess of Wales that ”takes us closer to the subject” through an archival jamboree of home movies, eyebrow-raising long-view commentary, and investigative coups. The Diana we see in “The Princess” is the one we’ve always seen, the one we’ve been watching for 40 years, 25 of them since her death in 1997. Since we’ve never stopped watching her, “The Princess,” coming on the heels of “Spencer,” Season 4 of “The Crown,” and the short-lived musical “Diana,” may sound like one Diana document too many. Yet after all those dramatic treatments, it’s galvanizing to see the real story laid out exactly as it happened — or, more precisely, as it happened and as it was presented to the public, those being, quite often, two very different things.

The press agent was in a dour mood. “Once upon a time this was the hot season,” she told me. “The town came to life.”
I understood her nostalgia. A-list parties this year are sparse, and the concept of an A-list itself seems lost in the debris of the metaverse.
As the awards season limps toward conclusion, industry veterans remember the moment when a power Rolodex could create celebrity heat for a contender. But the definition of celebrity also seems cloudy today.
A publicist like Peggy Siegel could deliver a Denzel or a Damon for a screening, thus offering the media some star bait. Now, however, plucking a Charli D’Amelio from the TikTok landscape (she has 133 million followers) or recruiting a Jung Hoyeon from the Squid Game battlefield arguably carries greater clout for a project.

The Grinch has nothing on Larry David, who—you're not going to believe this—thinks the holidays are pretty, pretty, pretty terrible. The 74-year-old actor and writer, whose Curb Your Enthusiasm character hilariously dismisses almost everything and whose previous sitcom Seinfeld famously highlighted the secular tradition of Festivus "for the rest of us," turned his own "airing of the grievances" into an essay for former Vanity Fair Editor-in-Chief Graydon Carter's digital weekly Air Mail, published on Saturday, Dec. 18. The state’s last witnesses on Friday were Annie Farmer — the only victim to testify using her full name — followed by her high school boyfriend, and ending with her mother. The defense will present its case starting on Thursday, Dec. 16, following a break due to the judge’s scheduling conflicts. Attorneys estimated it will take two to four days.

Over the course of her legendary career, Alice Lee “Boaty” Boatwright has cast iconic movies, served as a studio exec and repped starry talent including Joan Didion, Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. Reflecting on it today, she says her career really took off after a pivotal encounter at Sardi’s restaurant more than 60 years ago. Sitting with her friend Sue Mengers, not yet the legendary agent she would become, Boatwright jumped out of her seat and grabbed Alan Pakula, whom she had never met.

The recent procession of top news executives shifting positions at ABC News, MSNBC and CBS News gives many in the close-knit world of TV journalism cause for hand-wringing.
In recent months, NBCUniversal named a new executive, Cesar Conde, to head all its news operations, replacing Andy Lack. Conde in turn named a new president at MSNBC, Rashida Jones. Disney on Wednesday named Kim Godwin, a former executive vice president at CBS News, as the new president of ABC News, replacing outgoing executive James Goldston. More transition is coming to CBS News, where current topper Susan Zirinsky is also seen giving up her duties there in days to come.
That’s one long cavalcade. And it hasn’t necessarily reached its end: Jeff Zucker, president of WarnerMedia’s CNN, has indicated he wants to move on by the end of 2021.
There’s reason for the revolving door in the top news suite.

The writer and raconteur embodied the hip, downtown Manhattan of the 70s. Now she is winning new fans in her friend Martin Scorsese’s documentary series Pretend It’s a City
Almost from the moment she set foot in New York more than 50 years ago, Fran Lebowitz has been part of the city’s social firmament. Like it, she has moved inexorably upmarket since she first made her name as a humorist in the 70s with a column in Andy Warhol’s Interview magazine. Back then, she hung out with the likes of photographer Robert Mapplethorpe and the New York Dolls as well as jazz legends such as Charles Mingus and Duke Ellington. These days, she rubs shoulders with fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg and former Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter, while the late Nobel laureate Toni Morrison was a close friend and confidante.

NBC has given a script commitment with penalty to a figure skating comedy from Olympic bronze medalist figure skater Adam Rippon, Susan Kittenplan, writer Billy Finnegan (Grace and Frankie) and 20th Television.
Co-created/story by Rippon, Kittenplan and Finnegan, the Untitled Figure Skating Comedy is set in the off-the-wall world of adult figure skating. Oversized ambitions, underwhelming talent, and boundless heart take center ice as one woman fights her family, her failing knees and every other skater at the rink to make her dreams come true.
Rippon, Kittenplan and Finnegan executive produce. 20th Television is the studio.
Rippon represented the U.S. at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, winning bronze medal as part of the figure skating team event. Later that year, he won season 26 of Dancing with the Stars with professional dancer Jenna Johnson. He’s repped by ICM Partners.

The Jeffrey Epstein story has all the trappings of a salacious news story: power, wealth, sex, abuse, celebrity, and corruption. But even though we know most of the details of Epstein’s fall from grace, culminating in his 2019 prison suicide under mysterious circumstances, we know relatively little about the man himself. A new Netflix limited series, Filthy Rich, attempts to shed light on the inner workings of the disgraced financier while also trying to give voice to his many victims.

Millionaire financier Jeffrey Epstein, the center of Netflix's documentary Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich, led a mysterious and yet completely public life. The native New Yorker, who was 66 when he died in 2019, kept details of his private life private but ran in high-profile social circles - which is where he allegedly brought many underage girls over the years as part of an elaborate sex-trafficking ring.
His survivors are telling their own version of events in the Netflix documentary, which is weaved in with a more detailed look at Epstein's rise to millionaire status and the various crimes of which he's been accused. For more background on Epstein and some of the key events referenced in the documentary, keep reading. And you can stream the documentary on Netflix starting May 27.

In 2003, journalist Vicky Ward wrote a colorful and lengthy profile of millionaire financier Jeffrey Epstein for Vanity Fair. Back before Epstein became heavily embroiled in a sex-trafficking ring that sent him to jail more than once, Epstein was a mere financial mastermind with his hands deep in working with some of the world's most high-profile businessmen. The profile, which features much of the content also depicted in Netflix's Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich documentary, just barely touches on Epstein's history of women. That story will play out more on screen, but it bears noting that Ward said years later that she wanted to go into more detail about allegations against Epstein in her Vanity Fair piece, but was blocked by her editors. She said she had on-the-record allegations from three accusers who said they were involved in a sex scandal with Epstein. Vanity Fair's...

Scott Z. Burns, the screenwriter for Steven Soderbergh’s prescient 2011 thriller “Contagion,” has found a new protagonist: the coronavirus itself. In an “infect and tell” open letter to the United States to be published Saturday in Graydon Carter’s Air Mail, Burns imagines Covid-19’s first-person account of the pandemic that has shut down much of the world economy.
“To go back to the beginning, I was hanging out in a seafood market in Wuhan, China, late last year with this bat I knew when I decided it was time to get out and see the world,” Burns’ version of the virus writes. “Maybe there was a pangolin involved, maybe not. (I am not one to infect and tell.) But when I met my first human being, I knew I had found my dream home … Now I understand what Herpes was talking about all these years — you guys are everything...

An interview this morning on MSNBC about the British royal family took a bizarre turn when a guest referred to Meghan Markle as “five clicks up from trailer trash.”
The video, which has gone viral, showed journalist Victoria Mather being interviewed from NBC’s London bureau about the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry’s return to the U.K. after their decision to step back from royal duties.
Mather told anchor Lindsey Reiser that the British public had soured on former Suits actress Meghan because she tried to “disrespect” Queen Elizabeth II.
“I think what has really, really upset the British public is that Meghan Markle, who many people consider as only, you know, five clicks up from trailer trash, has actually tried to disrespect the queen,” Mather said. “And the queen is the most respected person, most respected woman, in the world.”
Reiser appeared perplexed by her comments and quickly ended the interview.
